The new ads placement are ridiculous

  • TRANSLATOR

please revert back to the old ads placement

the new ads are placing on place should not be place, that's the reason we love 5mods.com

  • New system works fine for me.
They appear in the top and the bottom.

  • That is however, the mobile version.

  • @ImNotMentaL I agree with I'm not mental, it does separate authors name and important stuff from mod description , I don't like the ad placement either.

  • @FoxtrotDelta Now ther're three ads, one at the top, one at the bottom, and one between the mod author's name and the description. I'm OK with the first two, but the last is a bit annoying. We are forced to view the ad.

  • @V4D3R yea. the one under my name and discription is the one i am annoyed about as well.

  • The new @administrators (imo) aren't really doing a good job with the site. At least, yet. The ad placements, the mods in wrong categories, etc etc.

  • ADMIN

    Hi guys,

In terms of ad placements, I covered this a little in my welcome note. The issue is that we need to have a 728x90 (horizontal) ad and a 300x250 (box) ad in the top-fold of the site, somewhere. The top-fold being the first 900 pixels on the site, height-wise. If you can think of a better place to put that box ad then I'm open to suggestions. Originally we had it above the download button but we quickly changed it when we thought people wouldn't like that even more than where it is now.

  • @Dark0ne users mostly have complaint about the one in the middle , under authors name. We could shift it to the right side yea?

  • ADMIN

Bearing in mind it has to be within the top 900 pixels (in height) of the website, moving it to the "right side" would end up putting it where the screenshots are now. I honestly think that would look way worse than where it is currently on the left.

  • @Dark0ne I'm no expert I'll make a template example picture and post it here later. It's okay till we figure this out with feedback from the community

  • TRANSLATOR

    @Dark0ne then don't place ads

  • @ImNotMentaL im afraid that's not an option for most of the websites. you gotta be realistic here.

  • TRANSLATOR

@Dark0ne how about ridiculous ads only display for visitor(non member), registered member will show the previous ads placement?

  • ADMIN

Just so you're aware, in the first screen shot you've posted, we've actually changed the count of mods to show per page, so that white gap shouldn't show ( we've also removed all the in-line ads there ) but we had to change the count a little bit yesterday as there was a lot of load on the website. We're testing a few more things today, so that will look normal soon.

  • @MrMason thank you.

  • @Dark0ne said in The new ads placement are ridiculous:

    above the download button

I think this and the way it currently is are the only two working solutions, but I actually prefer the way it is at the moment. With that, the download button, the other necessary buttons and the information about the author are all on top of the ad, while users who want to read the description or the comments would have to scroll anyways sooner or later.

  • @Dark0ne Just an idea, while I am passing by...

  • @LeeC2202 don't pass by stay.....

  • @LeeC2202 @LeeC2202 Ha ha, just can't keep away from the forum can you? I'm having the same problem as well.

There used to be an ad in the 300x250 place if I remembered correctly.

There is one at the very bottom of the page too.
For me, having ads in the header and footer is fine.

  • @V4D3R I really am trying... I came on yesterday to try a fix for the "problem" but sadly, it didn't/couldn't work. :( I can't resist a creative-based problem though, so I thought I would offer up an option...

The problem is, I don't see ads and my ad-blocker is turned off. Ad-blockers are my last line of defence, not the first... so all I see is white space and that's the same on most sites. The problem with ads isn't the sites but the distribution networks that serve them... they're the danger and those are what I block on a system-wide level. If they were to bypass my first line of defence, I can block them in my router as well, if I have to.

uBlock Origin just stops all the tracking and data harvesting for me, I use sites that have problems with that kind of thing.

  • @LeeC2202 I would really like to know your opinion on the latest changes, if you could at least talk to us on discord, or by using chat, for a few hours, I'll be grateful.

  • MODERATOR

Firefox' built-in tracking protection still blocks the ads even when uBlock Origin is disabled for this website.

Given, it does block ads on pretty much all websites natively.

On ad position: I have my doubts.
    misleading?

I really dislike the splitting of author + description here.

  • So much for "no longer showing ads with fake download buttons".

  • @PNWParksFan it;s a work in progress we are suggesting alternate locations for adds. that particular one is problematic for every one.
