[WIP] Chevrolet Astro 1988
-
So, here's what I've been working on lately. Requested by @krashadam, model by MAD MAX & RUSH, with some additional parts by Carface. Converted by me (obviously).
These three pictures are from the first ingame test I did today. Still needs some improvements and fixes here and there, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out so far. Tell me what you guys & gals think!

@Chezy what will that replace

It's beautiful. Gotta fix my GTA 5 so I can enjoy this beautiful piece of work.

Currently, it replaces the Moonbeam, since the Moonbeam is heavily inspired by the Chevy Astro. I'm not sure if it will stay that way, since I'm definitely not able to make a huge lowrider mod out of it. We'll see... maybe I'll keep it that way, and when you drive to Benny's, you will still get the original Moonbeam2 lowrider, which you can fully customize then. It will look a little bit strange probably, but well...
-
@Chezy Looks great! Also does the side door works? Because this question about maximum door amount bother me too.
-
You're a legend! So much love for this one.

By the way, I would gladly make screenshots for you for its release. Just let me know
-
LOVE YA
-
@Chezy Chances are if you had to make it a lowrider, it would replace the Moonbeam.
-
@Chezy Looking great! It can be also replace the Youga ( I know it's most likely based on Dodge Ram Van) since it's in traffic and doesn't have anything to do with Lowrider parts of Benny's.

But to be fair, I used a little trick, since I also didn't know if more than 4 doors are possible. The right door on the rear is actually the boot of this car, but with the same rotation properties as the other door.

Thanks man, I'd love that, your screenshots look incredible! I could send you everything as soon as most bugs are gone and I prepared an Addon version.

I already tried that, and the problem is, here's how the hands look like when replacing the Youga:
However, this is how it looks with the Moonbeam:
To achieve that, I already had to increase the height of the front seat, but with replacing the Youga, I would have to increase it even more, which would look kinda stupid. Or is there a value in the vehicles.meta or handling.meta, which I can change, so that the player will sit in the Youga like he does in the Moonbeam?
-
@Chezy Yes, my thoughts was exactly the same (use boot with door properties). Also you dont need to change seat position, if you want to replace another car. Just use value from Moonbeam in <layout> string in vehicles.meta.
-
@Chezy As @Yarm1995 mentioned you can change the values for Youga inside the vehicles.meta. You can add value from Moonbeam or any car you want in the game. I think Youga will be perfect since most of the people like me want to see this beauty riding around the ordinary traffic while driving.

Ah perfect, thanks! But when I add the Moonbeam layout (which is LAYOUT_STD_LOWRIDER_SIDEDOOR by the way), the game crashes everytime I try to enter the car. Is this because the Moonbeam layout was added via DLC and is not used in the original game? And is there a possibility to fix this?
-
@Chezy This Dodge Grand Caravan (https://tr.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/dodge-grand-caravan-sxt-2008) has sliding door feature. It replaces Minivan in-game and doesn't have any vehicle.meta setting to use this door function. So maybe there is an another trick to do this?

You're right, the standard layout works perfectly fine aswell. Thanks!
-
@Chezy From the sound of it, they don't work because everything else is Youga related.
The lowrider bit might be DLC. Depending on where you find it, it may or may not work.
In this case, this may be an older version of the lowrider moonbeam STD. Or Rockstar added this to fuck you up, to make you think it's just you who can't mod.

Maybe this also related with vehiclelayouts.meta, but i'm not sure because i just change layout string in vehicles.meta and never had any problems.

Yeah, the issue probably was that the LAYOUT_STD_LOWRIDER_SIDEDOOR was only available in the vehiclelayouts.meta of the Lowrider DLC, and the standard cars apparently can't access that meta file. But I'm glad it also works with the LAYOUT_STANDARD.
Made these damage pictures today:
I will be in the studio recording an album with my band the next couple of days, so there won't be any updates for a few days. Afterwards, I will start creating the Addon version, the tuning parts (no heavy lowrider tuning, but some nice small stuff) and all that jazz... oh, and of course I'll send everything to @inbetweendays_, so he can work his screenshot magic!
-
A quick update, due to the whole OpenIV ban mess that's currently happening... of course, I won't give up on modding, Take Two can't take my hobby away. However, since we're all waiting for the new ScripthookV version, I'm currently unable to finish the Astro, since it would require a lot of testing in the final stages. Now, I know there are workarounds, like downgrading my GTA V version, but I want to keep it as original as possible, at least for the moment. I am still able to work on my next mod, a Lamborghini Jalpa, and I just hope that by the time the Lambo is ready to be tested ingame, the new Scripthook version is already released and I can finish and release both cars simultaneously.
-
@Chezy I'm update my game, but keep WHOLE outdated game dirictory, just in case. And now i can just copy older versions of GTA5.exe, GTAVLauncher.exe and PlayGTAV.exe, with outdated update.rpf already in mods folder and using launcher bypass. So i can easily switch between old and new versions and test vehicles ingame. But i'm worried about Scripthook, if it even will be released, dont think it will be soon.

Yeah, I missed the opportunity to create a backup game directory... but well, never could I have guessed that Take Two would make such a bold move as they did. I thought I'd get along fine without playing GTA for the few days Alex Blade would need to update the Scripthook, but everything changed with the OpenIV ban... good thing is that I will be working on the Lambo for quite some days, maybe weeks (depending on how busy I'll be in real life), and there's plenty of time for SHV to be updated until I definitely need it again. But if Alex has to take even more time to update it, I will surely have to downgrade my GTA version eventually.
-
I'm still on the previous update, if you need I can help you make a handling too, or carvariations or whatever (add-on stuff etc)
If you had Discord it would be very practical
-
Any updates on the project @Chezy?

Not really so far, the thing is, after Scripthook was released and OpenIV was declared legal again, I had some reeeeally busy weeks and was not really able to work on any mod during that time. And for now, I gotta work on the Lamborghini Jalpa first, since I have some kind of deadline on that one and I don't wanna keep ViSubversa (who requested it) waiting for so long. But after that, I'll finish the Astro aswell, there are only a couple of really minor steps to be done on this car, so I will probably release it really shortly after the Lamborghini!
-
Now that the Jalpa is finished and released, I found some time to work on the Astro again. Here are some pictures of the Addon version (and probably the release pictures aswell)
The Astro also has 4 tuning parts, you can see two of them right here:
You can choose between a luggage rack with stuff (as seen above) or without stuff. You can also choose between a spare wheel with extra stickers (as seen above aswell), or without.
Release: very soon!
