Why are there SO MANY different mod menus?

I get that some have different options, I myself use a couple at the same time. But why are there so many when a lot of them just do basically the same thing?

Probably a combination of the NIH syndrome and plain old "look at thing I made!"
Then again choice is good and the major popular ones offer plenty of standard features and some offer even more.
