The end of OpenIV

Thats R*, the one who shut down OpenIV is TakeTwo. It doesn't help that Rockstar is allowing this terrible thing to happen....
Really? I thought Rockstar themselves did it. I thought Rockstar was just referred to as Take-Two.
Huh. Learned something new. To me, it sounds like Take-Two has Rockstar by the balls. Maybe Rockstar does allow modding, but Take-Two, fucking daddy, won't allow it to happen.

Fuck Take-Two. I really hope they don't take down GTA5-Mods as well for their shitty online shenanigans. I remember and miss the days when they actually praised modding. I know for a fact Rockstar Games didn't make this decision.
Remember this? https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/18541/zombie-invasion-mod-for-gtaiv-pc.html
"Looks like fans are getting quite creative out there with fun new mods using the recently released fan-created ICEnhancer tools for GTAIV PC..
Among some of the cool ones we’ve seen, this particular mod pits Niko against waves of bloodthirsty undead throughout the streets of Liberty. Proving that modern-day firepower can do the job at least as well as Marston’s blunderbuss and holy water."
Yeah I miss that Rockstar Games.
Amen. I never played GTA IV on PC with mods, but I can understand that. I had a favorite game once. It got fucked up because the new systems couldn't play it anymore. My favorite childhood game, gone.

Considering this happening just before an update to Scripthook that would support the GunRunners update, I feel it is necessary to show T2 how weaponized vehicles should really be done. Anyone interested in working with me, doing some ZModeler3 work?
-
There is nothing Rockstar could do about it. This was done by Take-Two which owns Rockstar. It's caused by Corporate greed for money.

Why? GTA 5 modding is officially dead by the coming morning.

Jeesus... I guess I have to post this here, too.
You do realize this does not stop you from modding or playing the game, don't you? New mods can still be made, installed, and played, just like before. Prevent your game from updating by using the launcher bypass, use the current Scripthook version and OpenIV 2.9 (block it from the internet using Windows Firewall), and you're modding and playing like nothing ever happened. Making firewall rules for OpenIV.exe won't do anything if you don't turn on your firewall! Don't forget that important step.
Nothing is dead except OpenIV. And even then it's only dead in the sense that it will no longer be updated. v2.9 still works just fine.
-
It is not dead yet... there are people still working to make the prior version of OpenIV remain functional and there are people working to revise the Scripthook... it just does not look very smooth or hopeful now that the team at OpenIV is not leading the effort... I don't think that modding will die on GTA I just think things will get bumpy and very slow and we will all need to be patient and I expect a lot of people to move on to something else until stuff gets smoothed out.

Well I don't know this, it's been awhile since I modded GTA 5, my game's been stuck in limbo thanks to some mod I installed.

@CamxxCore Yes of course. The OpenIV team put many years into the application, and we won't ever get something as well made for V unless they release the source code for it.
I reckon they got shut down because of LibertyV. I mean the guys who were doing the RDR map did, so completely possible that IV team got shut down because of this. Just a theory.
Could someone please tell me WTF is going on!?! Why on earth would the OpenIV team urge you to uninstall the one-and-only tool we absolutely need?! Have they finally gone completely mental?!
Just came here to look for an Update on Scripthook. And now this shit!
-
How can we install Add-on car mods or skins now that OpenIV is RIP by stupid Take-Two. Yes you should blame the T2 and not R* since they've no connection to this.
-
Also, why did the mods close the 'OpenIV Trick/Workaround to avoid Uninstall Pop-Up' topic? That's silly, as it's an ongoing issue. For example, I was going to post there, that you can simply set Core.xml to read-only, so you won't have to keep updating it. Please, reopen it.
OpenIV (the non-updated version) is still loading a take-down page. How can I suppress that?

Just keep using your old OpenIV.
-
Well fuck, this ruined my day. Can't believe they just did this...all the work people put in...in love for the game...gone
-
So OpenIV has been shut down now? I always bought GTA on PC and waited for the first mods to appear. What's the point now?
Post moved to a related thread
-
@InfamousSabre Yep yep yep.
BUT! I was really counting on NTS to research custom maps and paths to allow Living add-on maps. Not only that but GTA VI needs a completely new tool and I believe that NTS had by far the most advanced knowledge of RAGE. It would take ages to create a tool like this.

I bet these corporate morons haven't even played a video game in their lives.
I mean you gotta pay 60€ for this game, and you still don't have the right to modify it FOR YOURSELF ONLY? This industry is going nuts. You have to pay for everything.
Also, not allowing modding now is a perfect way to shoot a bullet in your foot.
Because one : it's a big "f*ck you" to all the players that have spent money on this game hoping they could mod it, and two, because it dramatically shortens the longevity of the game.GTAV, A GAME FROM 2013, IS STILL AROUND THANKS TO MODDING. IS THIS A GODDAMN JOKE TAKE TWO.
If i knew, i would never have bought this. Honestly, my pirated version of the game was more stable than my legal one.
-
I still play Midtown Madness 2, a game from 2000, just because i can freely mod it.
Take Two, Take Notes.
-
Take2 being take2 I guess.
Ending PC modding definitely won't stop modding Online, that's for sure. And this dick move won't get them more online players either.
Apparently they are too stupid to understand this.I have a lot more to say, but it won't be pretty if I posted them here, so I won't.
Hopefully OpenIV will be resurrected or an alternative will come soon.
-
@V4D3R yeah this in no way will stop online scripting and hacking all this is doing is killing the single player creativity playground.
-
****I have 2 versions of GTA V the first one is Rockstar version (original copy) i use it for playing online only (to avoid getting ban from using mods)
the second one i have a Pirated copy ..i use it for modding only 😉
by this way the decision of R* cant affect on me . 😎****
-
Let's start SparkV, a copy of OpenIV based on its source code
-
To be honest, the only reason I started playing GTA V was because of JulioNIB's Iron Man & Hulk mods. Mods, scripts, and skins are the reason I've stayed with GTA V, and have made GTA V my go-to game. Enjoyed Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and Skyrim, but GTA V has received more of my time than those three combined.
If Take-Two wishes to alienate part of GTA V's base, then I really don't have further need for their products. They most likely don't care if they lose a handful of players (...even if a handful equals in the thousands), because they generate revenue from Online. Without mods, I'm not going to invest time in a franchise that glorifies crime; LCFR and LSFR were always on the side of the law I was comfortable with, and along with other mods, made GTA a palatable experience.
No sour grapes here. I've signed the petitions and made my ire known to Take-Two. If Take-Two listens and recinds their C&D, then I will happily return to the fold. If not, then I will enjoy what mods I can use and slowly drift toward other MODDABLE games; I'm sure (...for the time being) Bethesda will appreciate my time and business.

No electricity, and no OpenIV. Today can't be any worse.
