The end of OpenIV

  • @LeeC2202 Yeah that whole statement is extremely vague

  • Open IV lives again! Hurrah!

  • Ok guys, we have shown that modding will never be knocked down nor will it be censored by unhealthy business economic interests, modding never dies, long live modders and modding

Aren't we getting a little ahead of ourselves?! Just checked their site, and I'm not seeing any 'live again, hurrah' messages there.

  • @jimboob I actually think that latest statement is very clear. It's a step back on their stance and an acknowledgement that they went overboard, certainly more than I suspect they might have done without Take Two in the picture. They are protecting themselves, their online service, their own IP and if they are forced to, the IP of other companies. That's a very wide net, with a very precise hole in it, that we can make use of.

I see very clear lines drawn in the sand with that statement and it is in everyone's best interests to either play ball, or risk compromising the whole modding scene. And I really do think it's that serious now. They've shown they will do it and we have to take notice of that.

I consider this a second chance they didn't have to give everyone and if any of the modders try to cross that line, then I think it is clear what will happen. That means that as a community, we all have to take the responsibility of stamping down on the online cheat services and be very wary of encouraging major projects that involve the abuse of the IP part of it all.

I refuse to use DIscord because they actively participate in hosting people offering online cheating services and they're not interested in doing anything about it. I had a heated discussion with them (like I do) and they just don't care. All I got back was "We're not responsible for what goes on on our servers", which I think is a pretty irresponsible attitude to take.

I think it's in our hands and we've been given the rules to abide by... break them at our peril, I see as the message.

  • @meimeiriver Well it does live again because we can mod GTA5 freely on OpenIV.

    Zactly!

Way I read it, was, paraphrased and dumbed down, kinda like this:

"Look, all y'all know we were never against SP modding. So we talked it over with T2, and they've agreed not to be dicks about it, and let you guys continue SP modding, provided, this time around, you really respect the line here: DO NOT, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, FACILITATE ONLINE MODDING. Also, they've told us you can't import other IP works, also belonging to T2, into your GTA V mods. Live by these rules, and your modding will continue to have a future."

  • @meimeiriver Haha, so true.

Yep, very true. And, as Lee said, not to be taken lightly. So, I think for OpenIV this means they'll definitely have to drop the Liberty City plans from their project (and also still square the matter where they were accused of having their tool be used for Online cheating).

So, there's still hope. A slim hope, perhaps; but, as a favorite Captain of mine once said: "Well, I've never known Hope when it wasn't on a diet." :) So, yeah, I really think there's a chance we might see OpenIV back in business, ere long, officially.

  • Lol, Rockstar be like "Please no more bad Steam reviews" lol. Though, I do appreciate OpenIV developers and Rockstar are in contact, if they decide to make their own modding tool, I beg they don't limit the shit out of it as that'll most likely happen anyways.

  • I feel like that the development of that Liberty City map mod will be stopped then. Too bad, i would have loved to see New York in an updated engine.

  • the best thing that could happen would be an official modding tool made with Rockstar and OpenIV team.
We need a creationkit like skyrim have, would be so fucking great ;D

GTA is at EoL (as far as updates are concerned, thank gawd). So, a complete new tool, made by Rock* themselves, for GTA VI, may be possibility; but I doubt they'll do it for GTA V.

Let's all not forget any movement on the part of Rockstar/T2 had probably a lot more to do with not wanting to enter the era of GTA VI on a bad note, than with wanting to spend of a lot of extra time on GTA V per se.

  • This is for everyone who thinks protests are worthless:

Over the past few days, I fought hat feels like a million of people online and offline who always brought the same lineup: "But why do you protest. R* does not care about you! You are insignificant to their bottom line. just take what you get!"

Look at us now. It worked!

Every negative Steam Review + Every negative Twitter comment + every negative News Story made TT and R* reconsider their decision.

I admit to the chances of protests to succeed are slim. But without protesting they are zero!

    First, they ignore you,
    then they laugh at you,
    then they fight you,
    then you win.

  • @askavian Protests are certainly not worthless - Rockstar realised that the Modding Community were standing up against them, the steam reviews, comments, boycotts was going to harm them, so they decided to stop it. We as a community can fight a lot of things!

It wasn't even Rockstar to begin with. And frankly, in all my life, I don't think I've ever seen a game company even try and stand up to their publishers like this (however veiled they put it). So, a big kudos on them for attempting to remedy the situation (I heard OpenIV already upgrades properly again, but there's no official word on their site yet).

All-in-all, it just goes to show: Resistence is NOT futile!

  • Get a load of this: VVV

    Orignal video:

    Video by Figureight

This immediately had my attention, I don't recall Take-Two reversing their C&Ds ever, but in the above video Figureight says APPARENTLY they did.

I'm not saying this is true, or fake. I'm asking if any of you have found videos/articles that say this exact same thing.

Now, normally I don't watch GTA5-centered YouTubers, because 100 out of 1 chances it's always clickbait, but the bit "T2 removes C&D" had me interested, so I clicked and placed it here to give you guys a look. Didn't watch through it yet because I can't stand watching people play GTA 5 and talk non-stop about things that send you way off the track of what info you're really looking for.

Please tell me what you think. If you have a new source with the same statement, please do post it.

I personally think it's a lie, because nobody else here was all like "OPENIV MIGHT BE COMING BACK" other than me. Hey, I might be wrong, it could be true.. I hope... :disappointed:

    EDIT: Watching it now.

EDIT 2: Looking at the above posts, I think everybody caught onto this already...

  • I'm 7 minutes into his video and so far what I've seen might be true. I'm going to check ScriptHookV and see for anything from June 24 or 23rd, or 22nd. Keep tuned.

  • I knew it! I knew GTA modding was inmortal! Take 2 got owned, finally.

  • What about lc project....???

  • @COD-MASTER-123 I'm pretty sure that's long gone. Just like Red Dead Redemption V.
