Can you choose which car to replace?

Hello,
I was wondering whether it is possible to change which car is replaced with a replace mod by simply renaming the .ytd, and .ytf files in the mod? Say for example I downloaded a mod that changes the tailgater into something else, and then download another mod which also uses the tailgater. Can I then just change the name of the .ytd and .ytf files in the second download to alpha or blistor or some other car instead?
Sorry I'm a bit new when it comes to modding.

@Danish_Prestige yes you can but sometimes cars have different settings like dials so you need to put interior name of the correct dials in the modified car in vehicle.meta and some times cars like tailgater has tunning parts if you replace it with other car and tailgater in game has tunings on thats my cause some crash or fps drope so make sure to make any car as stock version save game than quit to replace it so next game lunche will avoid problems that what i know
