With OpenIV Deceased, What Does This Mean for Modding?

  • Just hearing the bad news now. I'm at work so I can't read through 100 pages in the other topics, can someone catch me up to speed.
How fucked is the game? I've been working HARD for 3 years on a Machinima project - what mods won't I be able to use? And is there a workaround?

  • Open Camera Mod? Raiders Blood and Violence? EUP clothing pack? Are they all fucked because of this? Custom skins, tattoos and scars??

  • @House-Rushton If you already have OpenIV installed, no need to panic. It will update, and when its done it will ask you to uninstall it. However, there is an option for Uninstalling Later, which allows you to use it normally.

  • If you have backup files, just revert back to the previous version.

About OpenIV, you just click "uninstall later" and you can continue using the tool.

  • Not that much problems for now
But rockstar will propably change the encryption for each files , which will Break everything apart

  • @AHK1221 does that mean I can't use any of the new Gun Running content? I haven't updated it yet - is it really as simple as download later?

  • @House-Rushton No, that was only for OpenIV. Update OpenIV, you'll know what happens.

For the game, I need to know if you have the retail or steam version, so that I can tell me you how to block the updates.

  • @AHK1221 I have a retail version - bought it through the GTA Warehouse. I think.
I might have bought it from a third party site, but it isn't pirated.

Can't someone just copy what OpenIV is and then update and release it as OpenIV2 or like OpenIV Reborn?
Because what happens when they recrypt or whatever buddy said they'll do to dismantle the mod community?

This 600 seconds bullshit is real irritating when trying to have a conversation ...

  • @House-Rushton If scripthook is still on track for an update you should be able to spawn the new cars.

  • @House-Rushton They already did that. The problem is, the development of OpenIV is discontinued, and seeing as how "rudely" take 2 did it, everyone is going crazy.

Anyway, if you haven't updated your game (because you still want your mods to work), follow the steps below:

    1. Make two shortcuts for GTA 5 on your desktop. Name one Grand Theft Auto Mods and one Grand Theft Auto Online.
    2. Right-click Grand Theft Auto Mods shortcut and click Properties. You will see this window:
      0_1497542498850_Capture.PNG
In the Target text box, type this in:
    -SCOfflineOnly

So now, your whole path should look something like this:

    "D:\Games\Grand Theft Auto V\GTAVLauncher.exe" -SCOfflineOnly

    1. Now right-click Grand Theft Auto Online and click Properties. You will be shown the same menu:
      0_1497542618341_Capture.PNG
      After target, add this:
     -StraightIntoFreemode -online

So now, your complete path should look something like this:

"D:\Games\Grand Theft Auto V\GTAVLauncher.exe" -StraightIntoFreemode -online

Now, if you have previously run GTA with Auto Sign-In ticked, you don't need to do the following, and just run the game through Grand Theft Auto Mods.
if you haven't then follow the following steps:

    1. Run Grand Theft Auto Online. Enter your credentials and make sure Auto Sign-in is checked!
    2. Sign in, and let it load. Once it says "(your username) has signed in" wait a few seconds and close the launcher. Now run the game through Grand Theft Auto Mods.

You may need to repeat the above two steps whenever it asks for activation.

    Happy modding!

  • @AHK1221 thanks for the tutorial. I'll jump on this as soon as I get home.
What are the limits to modding now that there's no OpenIV and what are my limits if I don't update?

  • @House-Rushton You can still use Open IV. When prompted to uninstall it, just press Uninstall Later and you'll go back to using it normally.

If by limits you mean by not updating GTA, well, its only the features. You can keep using your mods. The only downside would be is that you wont actually be able to play the Gunrunning DLC.

  • @AHK1221 won't be able to play it as in, play it online? Even through my Vanilla directory?
Or not at all? Not even the new cars through Menyoo??

  • @House-Rushton if you install the update, then you wont be able to use ScriptHookV. If you follow my tutorial above, then you wont be forced to update and still be able to play with mods. However, since you didnt update, you cant play online.

I still recommend ppl firewall off OpenIV. Yes, the '182' trick works; but since the OpenIV team made the rather aggressive (and unusual) attempt to uninstall itself from your computer as well (way and beyond what the C&D letter asked for), I no longer trust the team to not push out yet another version (say, 183), which would again try and remove the software. So I've decided to simply not give it access to the Internet at all, any more. YMMV.

  • Today I saw the news, is it true? And now what will happen?

    Damn it, take two ...

As there are too much topics related to OpenIV, I'm closing some and this is one of them. Please next time try to don't create more than 1 topic for just the same cause, thanks.

    Topic closed.
