BOYCOTT TAKE TWO INTERACTIVE
Im not here to debate whether boycotting works or not. I started this thread to inspire. To get people thinking differently. I have been apart of boycotts in the past. All of which have been successful.
Im also coming from Take Twos point of view. What do they care about? profit. Milking every penny out of a game.
GTA V one of the best selling games of all time. $500 million in microtransactions, with a nearly 100% profit margin. No support, crappy online services, so on and so forth. We get the picture.
So coming from a business point of view. It means 'Good Job!' we have made a big profit both in sales and through online, while providing limited support & services. Its worked now lets take that model and move it over to Red Dead Redemption 2. Only this time lets see if we can milk a few more mil from these peasant consumers.
Other big publishers see what Take Two Interactive are doing and be like 'You know what, that business model has worked. Lets take that model and bring over to our game. Before you know it, everyone is doing it. Each time the net gets tighter and tighter. These shenanigans not only affect GTAV gamers but gamers on a whole.

"Boycott Take Two Interactive"Yes its that easy. Keep reminding people. If people ask 'whats this about?' be helpful and point them to any relevant info.
Defeatist attitude. 'boycotting never works' or 'this will never change anything.'
My reply is i'am actively doing something, what are you doing? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Better games with more freedoms.
I believe the next title release from Take2 is Red Dead Redemption 2 . If any articles, pictures, trailers comes out, get on it "Boycott Take Two games"
Whats the total number of petitions signed? a few thousand? Great. Theres your start point. Thats how many people who are willing to take a stand. If we roll as a unit, the rest of the herd sitting on the fence will follow. Dont sit back, take action now.
I will leave you with these videos to give motivation. Both with large followings and both are willing to stand up, speak out and boycott.

Yup, I don't even want to touch Kerbal Space Program
-
Everyone thought about boycotting, and most people have said they won't buy any more T2 related games, but you know this will fade into nothing over time.
If you have any ideas, shoot. Not buying their games will have little impact, most people don't actually mod the game. You know, consoles and casual players.
-
@Eddlm Not buying their games is the most effective way. Petitions don't work. The youth are uneducated on these matters. Youth blindly follow YouTubers. If more YouTubers speak openly to boycott and explain why. The youth will follow and the wheels will be set in motion.
-
For me it's not just about modding. It's about the industry as a whole.
-
Regarding youtubers I think we're covered:
-
@Eddlm if they are saying boycott. Then some of my faith has been restored
-
Your heart is in the right place but both you strategy and your anger at our community members needs a rethink.
I have never spent money on GTA online and never intend to do so. I wasn't planning on buying Kerbal and now that Take Two has bought the game license I have even less interest...
Boycotting works best with high volume high frequency consumer purchases.
So
Unless all or a large percentage, like 89-90% of GTA online players boycott, and more importantly/effectively "walk out" of GTA online, so not buying Shark cards and not spending in game currency already owned and not playing the game online at all Take Two will not be have any financial pressure to care about our feelings
Problem is that most of us in the modding scene do not play online, most of us don't do regular in-game purchases. So boycotting from our position is unnoticeable because boycotting from me means I won't buy GTA 6 or RDR2... Those would be the next things that I would buy. At this point I am pissed but I am not going to lie I am still going to buy those games because saying that I am not buying those games in a few years when they come out doesn't make Two back off modders.

@Cass Thank you bro, not many are standing up, need to organize
-
@DarthPungz My message was not directed at GTA V itself. The game will be on downward slope by Xmas.
It was intended for future games. To get people thinking on another level. Business people only think profit. So boycotting is speaking their language. That's how you bring bout change.
Got the gonads? đŸ˜€

@Cass
It's been hinted that Gunrunning will be the final content update ever launched for GTAO so yea.
-
What we could benefit from is some big voices, speaking up clearly about modding in SP not being a threat to Take Two and Rockstar... We need big YouTube people to just flat stop playing GTA online,l and or GTA at all in any form in their videos... Typical Gamer comes to mind, Doctor GTA, ect... These people should say you know what we are not going to play GTA or endorse GTA games until the openIV and modding thing is straightened out...
But....They won't.... because they just want the views and the GTA views are their gravy train...
Typical Gamer was all like, man I feel bad but what can I do, I feel bad but hey look at this cool new stuff in the online dlc go play go buy go play go buy wow so fun go play wow go buy look at my girlfriend, go play online...
We need PC gamer and Kotaku to have editorials that are condeming Take Two and their assualt on modding... So far it has just been news reporting... We need a strong bias voice to preach our case from a strong platform.
-
Again, people cannot pressure financially via boycotting if they are not making high frequency high volume purchases... So gonads asside, boycotting is not a short term approach with merit.
Long term, eh... People are not going to unify. It isn't going to happen. We are mad now, acceptance is going to settle in soon, then some will figure out ways to make modding work again in some way but others will move on to other games...
-
@DarthPungz yeah organize, like I stated many are not standing up
-
I played both Online and Singleplayer modded, this is straight BULLS****, Done playing this game altogether until they back down.

@Biggdogg @kkrive500 Good for you. Keep doing what you're doing.

"Boycott Take-Two games"Yes its that easy. Keep reminding people. If people ask 'whats this about?' be helpful and point them to any relevant info.

@Cass We CAN'T boycott them. On principle, we would then have to boycott every other developer who does not allow for modding in their games, and there are only a small fraction who do allow for it. R* already said this move was not intended to hurt the modding community, and it hasn't. We are all still here playing our modded games. As long as everyone had backups, then they can still play with all their scripts, and modders can still create scripts using the current scripthookv. It just has to be done on the previous version is all.
Also, boycotting hurts the employees, who have families they have to provide for.
The likely reason had to do with the fact that Take Two has to look ahead to what happens when they release RDR2, which they want to be just as/even more successful than GTAV was - their shareholders expect it. If OPEN IV team managed to bring Liberty City into GTAV, the impact could be devastating to sales. They are a company, and like all publicly traded business', the bottom line MUST be to maximize sales, they do this maintain it's competitiveness in the market place.
We can't have it all, we have had a damn good run for two years, be thankful for that, when they could have just prohibited any modding from the start.
-
@eshenk Defeatist attitude
-
@Cass LOL, what? It was a sane and practical response, from one living in the REAL world. We are just fine, you playing your modded-GTAV as I am right? The sky is NOT falling buddy.
-
@eshenk " Also, boycotting hurts the employees, who have families they have to provide for. "
Nah there will still be people to buy the game and the employe have to be paid anyway.
That will only hurt the people that get some extra from the sale or action.
-
@Shaezbreizh Boycotting them, would equate to people losing their jobs, LOL. They are a business that can only survive off maximizing sales, or they go under. Do a google search for all the developers over the years who have lost their shirts - you will find a countless many.
-
@eshenk yeah, but we talk about modder boycotting, it's like 10 to 25 % of gta player and again some of them will not boycott
That will not ruin a such big firm that are rockstar or Take Two, it will also not influence a lot how employe are paid but it will fuck the people owning action and bonus
-
@Shaezbreizh But we are still modding, the only thing that has changed is no further development of the tool that enables us to add mods. I think this was purely from a need to prevent importing LC into GTA V, which if occurred near the release date for RDR2, would be really, really, bad.
