The shutdown of OpenIV has even reached the BBC

UPDATE: Here is the response from Good-NTS on Rockstars answer:

    ======================================================================================================================================

Yesterday we reported that the lead developer of OpenIV, a modding tool that has allowed the GTA games to be modded for nearly a decade, had decided to shut down their mod after receiving a cease and desist from Take-Two Interactive, publisher of the Grand Theft auto series.

While we have not received a comment from Take-Two, Rockstar just sent PC Gamer its statement on the matter. Here it is in full:

"Take-Two's actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players."

We are following up with further questions for Rockstar to try to clarify its position and what may come next for OpenIV and GTA modding.

  • @FoxtrotDelta I bet they'll not

  • @xInno3Dx they will.. lets hope all the best ;)

  • Without OpenIV , how are we going to access rpf files? These people are seriously dumb if they think it contains malicious code.

Fuck them, the whole statement is nothing but PR.

  • @FoxtrotDelta thx for pinning it 👍

  • MODERATOR

This is just truly very poor brand management from a marketing standpoint they should have announced that there were actions coming, that they had concerns about open IV that something but to say nothing and then just send a C&D...

Just separate online and SP... They have not given us any offline DLC; ever????

I want to play online let me just play in the sandbox of single player.

Rockstar could just work with the open IV team to create a semi-official collaboration for offline modding tools that way they can control the functions to only be applicable to the single-player.

  • @DarthPungz unfortunately we have to wait to see what will be happen. So we can just hope for the best

  • MODERATOR

    @DarthPungz
That was a boilerplate corporate reply that even incorrectly addresses the problems they claim to suffer.

    This is just T2 PR.

  • Take-Two had a legal reason to stop OpenIV entirely. 1 is mostly what of @FoxtrotDelta said.

Reason 2 is much similar to 1, Take-Two must've caught somebody hacking the shit out of the servers with cheats and called for a rest to the problem.

If Rockstar actually does care about modders and rely on them for a great majority of their purposes, they should disband from Take-Two and just be their own seperate companies...

...although I think that would make too much legal work for them, so I highly doubt we're going to live through this slow bleed-out of good modding/modders.

  • I stopped playing online for the annoying cheaters so far I can use the OpenIV without internet or I would not work

  • 27% of (17,923 reviews) in the past 30 days are positive (STEAM)

Looks like they made a big impact and I bet anything this gets their attention if nothing else does.

That means 13k reviews are negative in the past 30 days and most of them no doubt are due to OPENIV being shut down.

  • @krashadam The main cause are the online hackers. Just weeks ago, I played in online and 3 times a guy killed me with a hand gun with just a head shoot each time.
The first time I thought "Wow that guy has precision, let's to take a vendetta".
The second time I was over a bridge and the guy down in the ground and I'm sure he taken more than 7 shoots from my AK and again, one shoot and I died and I thought "Here is something suspicious, let's to try to kill that guy".
The third time I found the guy and I shoot on him a rocket directly and the guy no died, no ragdoll, no runs, just again shooted like to the sky and head shoot for me...
So, those guys are killing the modding community.

Which proves my point; what if this is what Take-Two reacted towards and found OpenIV being the cause of it? "Allowing THIRD PARTIES (hackers) to disable security features (GTAO) and modify game assets (DLCpacks, etc)

  • Online hackers and black mod developers who create tools to cheat online are the cause of this.

Mod developers like us here on this website and users Of single player mods (modders) are just caught up in collateral damage. Especially openiv team.

  • @FoxtrotDelta Yeah I just wish Take-Two could tell the difference.

This old video of George Carlin even matches what the fuck is going on here!

"Well, he sounds intelligent.... AH! HE'S FULL OF SHIT!"

  • @krashadam Lmao like he said in the video "Some people are not stupid. They're full of shit."

  • I've always wondered why Rockstar didn't do some sort of "approved mods" and use some sort of system like Steam Workshop, where "approved" mods are posted and shared with the community, using some sort of sdk that would only affect the single player content. Though that would mean then you'd have to separate the single player and multiplayer content and somehow "lockdown" the multiplayer content. Ce La vie

  • @GeorgeTKE Rockstar Games is owned by Take-Two

Take-Two has Rockstar's balls up to their chin. They can't do that, although I can see them wishing they did, but they never did it with GTA IV, because Rockstar thought they had everything organized already. The only time Rockstar Games would've been a threat to a modder is in the case of Online play (EULA is even against it. People have gone to jail for modding their game consoles.)

  • @krashadam who are/were those people never heard of them? can you give an example?

  • @FoxtrotDelta said in OpenIV shutdown // Official statement of Rockstar Games:

    Right here, it's various people:

    https://www.google.ca/#q=console+modding+arrests

If you look closely, some sources in there mentioned "reproduction of video games"

    "reproduction"

    "reproduct"

    "repo"

    "repossess"

"repossession" <Take-Two, lashing at OpenIV, to stop all mods such as 'mpgunrunning in SP', and online modders alongside it.

They're taking their name back, they saw we were still fighting to reproduce mods that offer you exactly what you want, including MP-DLC in Single-Player(<What Take-Two tried to fight against the most, hence shutting down OpenIV, to stop figuring out what the files are named.)

GTAO may be all fake money from Shark cards, but every microtransaction with that fake money means BIG BILLIONS for Take-Two.

  • What if I just want to use existing mods and not create them?
Is there anyway I can get Open IV if I haven't downloaded it?

  • @Chope007 yea. just google openiv. and if it asks to unistall. click unistall later. it will work. but you will need scripthook v for add on cars and trainer menu or script mods. as scritphook v has not been updated and it's fate is not clear yet.

It's likely Alexander Blade got a C&D seconds after OpenIV did by the same people (Take-Two)

  • @krashadam may be even before openiv.
