Done with GTA V for now....

  • Over the past couple weeks, I had been making more HD grass and sidewalk textures throughout the sunset strip, some new stucco and brick textures for apartments, etc. Then one day, I noticed a whole apartment complex with missing textures, and if you walked into it, I would fall through the ground. I noticed that two particular rpfs were corrupted - would not open. Then I decided to swap them with the vanillas. I could then access them, BUT.....but the game crashed with a zlib error. I went back into OpenIV, and PRESTO, both archives were corrupted again. I don't know how this is possible, but that is what has pushed me away. Reinstalling would mean a minimum of a week to put everything back to the way it was.

So where am I now? I purchased two games, one called TitanFall2 and the other called Quantum Break. Just yesterday morning, I popped TitanFall 2 in, and WOW! It's really nice to have a PC that can handle the latest tech with all settings at their highest - it's is a whole other World from GTA V in terms of visual fidelity, and the FPS is buttery smooth. Best part yet? It has a VPK toolkit that can access the game assets!

I left my GTA V the way it was, knowing that some day I may decide to try troubleshooting it again. Anyhow, I will pop in from time to time, but as for now, I have two new titles that really look promising.

  • @eshenk You don't need to reinstall it, just run the game with the -verify command and it will only redownload the corrupted archives!

  • @AHK1221 They are NOT corrupt though. The vanillas are fine, but when I move to my mods folder, they BECOME corrupt then. WTF?!?

  • @eshenk Hmm that sounds like OpenIV has a bug in the decryption. Maybe R* made some subtle changes which haven't yet been addressed by the OpenIV devs. Have you asked them?

  • @Cyron43 Actually, I have a solution that might just work. I could reinstall, and simply copy all files added to the update folder in my mods folder, and then simply copy them all back. It's a pain I am just not up to facing for now. Besides TitanFall 2 has me gripped at the moment. I will be back, but want to play these two games I just purchased, LOL.

Not to rub it in, but that's why I have (recent) backups, of my entire install.

Also, if the copied vanilla rpf crashes too, you may want to examine your hard disk too: this sounds too fishy. It may be that the sector(s) where the mods rpf resides, are corrupt (thus the vanilla rpf you copied over it becomes corrupt too).

I would also try and delete the entire mods rpf as well (without OpenIV running); and then copy it back in.

At the very least I would not try and painstakingly restore files to the mods rpf again until the corruption issue has entirely gone.

  • @eshenk lol Quantum Break is far from promising my guy. Titanfall 2 is decent tho, easy to get into.

  • Your .rpf is +4gb
4gb is the limit for one rpf , so basicly either you need to create a dlc.rpf like L.A Billboards , graffiti etc... or defragment the rpf
Try first defragmenting and then copying the vanilla one

It's not OpenIV that can't handle > 4G rpf files, but GTA V itself. So, if the mere act of copying the rpf makes it corrupt again, then the file size shouldn't matter. (Never hurts to check anyway, of course)

  • @eshenk I'm glad you found a workaround. Never heard of Quantum Break and so I'm currently watching gameplay on YouTube. I'm at part 3 right now. Looks awesome.

  • Were you not aware OpenIV's algorithm corrupted.rpf archives?
You need to use Affix (search on gtaforums) to fix the rpf file header in order to be accessed by the game again.

Still weird this hasn't been fixed yet..

  • @WuTangModz Lol wut that game is fucking awesome.

  • @eshenk sometimes when replacing texture files or even yft files in an rpf archieve and while doing so, if my computer gets turned off or restarted which happens alot to me, as i am in a country that has a power crisis going on. The rpf gets corrupted. May be there is something that terminated your openiv all of a sudden without your last function properly completed.

Edit : almost forgot i love titanfall 2 as well! Its really smooth and best FPS these days only behind battlefiled 1 for me. But yet it has a nice feel and fun to it. But i prefer gta 5 because of mods.

  • @AHK1221 lol reviews don't lie and it's not lol just looks good. I played it, and it's half movie not 100% game

  • @WuTangModz "..reviews don't lie"
    if that's the case:
    9/10
    Steam

    4.2/5
    Microsoft

    6/10
    GameSpot

so idk where you're coming from, lol.

If you are talking about the TV series in the game, you can skip that like I did and there is no need to watch it. But I really liked the story of the game, hope there is a Quantum Break 2.

    Affix

So I went searching and found it but before anyone runs to download and use it, I recommend you guys read the comments first. There seems to be something fishy about it. Also this thing is anything but in release state (see initial comment).

  • @AHK1221 u think a a 6/10 and 76 on metacritic a 7/10 pc gamer , a 7/10 on trusted reviews and only 2 good ratings is good?????????????

But as long as you didn't feel like you wasted money then that's fine

  • @WuTangModz I mean, I don't find anything bad with it. Like the story is good, gameplay is good, what do you find bad with it?

  • butter smooth ? isnt quantum locked at 30 fps ?

  • @Cyron43 Finally decided to copy the entire x64l.rpf over to my mods folder, and PRESTO, it works again. Now I just have to put all my mods back. Titanfall 2 is good and all, but nothing beats the thrill of causing carnage and mayhem on unsuspecting peds, LOL.

  • @eshenk Yeah I love the freedom we have in GTA V. I'm glad you're back "in business".
