editing carcols broke tuning on some vehicles
-
recently i discovered that you can virtually get any car mod working as replace with tuning parts now, so i edited around 80+ cars in my vehicle pack to have working tuning, the problem is that some unrelated cars tuning whose carcols line i never touched just stopped working
the dodge charger i have on the buffalo 2 now has working tuning but some weird color bug on the hood it's a weird green texture not very noticable (it worked fine before) other than that tuning still works
https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/2016-dodge-charger-sxt-r-t-srt-392-hellcat-add-on-replace-hqi replaced buffalo 2
this dodge charger doesn't at all have working tuning parts even if i copied and pasted the buffalo2 carcols tuning parts line under buffalo the floating tuning parts are also green similar to the other charger
https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/2016-dodge-charger-sxt-r-t-srt-392-hellcat-add-on-replace-hqi replaced buffalo 1
the bmw which always worked perfect with tuning on replace just stopped working for no reason at all, all tuning parts are floating in the air etc i never even touched the line for the sentinel i even tried restoring the entire line it's still floating in the air
https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/bmw-1mi replaced sentinel
i never touched the lines for any of these vehicles so what can cause these problems?
i tried restoring these cars carcols lines but it doesn't fix anything.

here is the carcols file if anyone wants to look and see whats wrong
-
i even had working tuning with this one on the turismo classic but now it no longer works
https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/1987-ferrari-f40-add-on-replace-tuning
theres no reasons for this to just stop working so i hope someone can help me
even this one stopped working on the cheetah classic again it worked before https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/ferrari-testarossa-512-1991-add-on

@zzcool Your problems are the same as for most of us. Using certain ID's in carcols.meta files will make the tuning parts of some vehicles to start working and for some other to stop working. That's caused because the game has a ID's limit (256), and any number above this is just one of the first 256 numbers repeated.
You just need to be carefull and use the values used by default on every carcols.meta file and the rest values (if there's any). This means, if you're using values above 255 some of your other vehicles will start losing their tuning parts.
As you're using vanilla slots to put vehicles mods, just use every vanilla ID available until 256. To know how much values are still available to use, use the I'm Not Mental tool (available on 5mods main site) to get how much ID's is using your game actually.
There are some scripters that have been trading some ideas/comments about a possible fix for this (not started yet), you can take a look at it here.

Yeah i notice that too before, but here's the weird thing, i was replacing the banshee with an RX 7 with a lot of tuning parts so i edited the carcols. When i was playing the game i notice the police car lights don't light up anymore on the light bar. Never knew extending a cars tuning effect the police car lights. That was just after one car!!!!!!!!!!! Is there any way to extend car tuning thru carcols without disabing the police car lights, please anybody?
-
@v8charger222 any addon car that has tuning parts you will have to put the carcols.meta info into carcols.ymt. But you only copy from <Kits> section until </Kits> and then paste that info into carcols.ymt under its <Kits> section usually i add my addon stuff at the very bottom of it after all the vanilla car info. So basically search for </Kits> in carcols.ymt and go up 1 line from that and paste your addon carcols info starting here.
-
@Willief23 thank you very much man
-
@v8charger222 under carcols.meta file some cars have a <Lights> section. i usually copy this info into my carcols.ymt under its <Lights> section. And for police cars the <Sirens> section but you will have to change the siren id so it doesnt conflict with the vanilla sirens i think 20 or 21 is where you want to start with siren ids.
-
@Willief23 now it's starting to make sense thank you man
-
@Willief23 i always copy from visible mods not kits or anything
-
i managed to get most tuning working with the help of a friend no idea how it started working again as he didn't do anything he just sent me the carcols file after editing it and somehow it worked.
now tuning doesn't work for around 2 vehicles, the nissan gtr on the elegy retro, the spoiler on the testarossa on the cheetah classic.
-
@zzcool ya your friend edited your carcols file because it had errors in it thats why it works now lol. Also you have to copy the whole <kits> section from carcols.meta to carcols.ymt whatever your copying isnt working or wont work. You also cant copy the whole carcols.meta file and paste it into carcols.ymt or your game will never load.
-
@zzcool i also just read your first post. You MUST edit carcols.meta or carcols.ymt if you replace the original vanilla car with an addon car or you will have bugs and floating parts. You can also get game crashes. You have to edit the handling.meta and vehicles.meta files as well with the info of the new addon car that is replacing the original car.
-
@Willief23 no he did the same edit as i did, the bmw stopped working again but now it works again i touched nothing.
so i should copy everything including kits? as i begin from visible mods not kits.
-
@zzcool when copying from carcols.meta to carcols.ymt you have to start from <Kits> and end at </Kits> this will copy all the tuning parts info. copying just from visible mods wont do anything.
-
@Willief23 it works for me to copy from visible mods, as the addon cars have a different name and kit number so i should copy the number too to the replace car?
-
@Willief23 can i send you my carcols file so you can assist me in getting it working for the few remaining non working cars most cars do work though.
-
@zzcool heres a video that shows how to properly copy the sections from carcols.meta file of your addon car to carcols.ymt. Carcols.ymt takes priority over meta files so copying the tuning parts section and lights section to carcols.ymt will have a higher chance of working compared to just having carcols.meta file. If your lights dont shine onto the ground then the lights arent working correctly.

-
@Willief23 oh i skipped the lights section i only started from visible mods to liverynames item
-
@zzcool copying from visible mods down to liveries will do absolutely nothing. Watch the video and you will see how to copy the info correctly.
-
@Willief23 oh, then how come it worked for me to do that? it just randomely stopped working, but i will have a look at the non working ones and copy from higher up.
-
@Willief23 this is what it looks like for the elegy that USED to work but it no longer does (i didn't touch anything)

@zzcool said in editing carcols broke tuning on some vehicles:
@Willief23 no he did the same edit as i did, the bmw stopped working again but now it works again i touched nothing.
so i should copy everything including kits? as i begin from visible mods not kits.
What you should do, is try and understand the process first.
A typical carcols.meta will start with a <Kits> section, with one or more <Item> subsections in it. For instance,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <CVehicleModelInfoVarGlobal> <Kits> <Item> <kitName>203_rmodveneno_modkit</kitName> <id value="203" />
The <Item></Item> paradign is common across .meta files; so, don't go and do something silly like "as i begin from visible mods not kits."
The <kitName> in carcols.meta is always defined, btw (because if it weren't, no carcols entry would be required in the first place, like when a 0_default_modkit is defined in carvariations.meta).
So, search for <Kits>, and then start adding (fully closed) addon <Item> sections, and their corresponding <Light> section (if one is defined).

@meimeiriver the tuning for the elegy decided to start working again for some reason now all tuning seems to work
