About GTAinside...

  • So, first of all I'd like to tell you, actually writing this down and having to create this thread is absolutely not easy for me. GTAinside was the first GTA site where I registered 11 years ago, on my 14th birthday. I received a warm welcome by the community and quickly became a part of it. After a while, I was even offered to become a moderator after applying. I posted my first steps in modding for San Andreas there and gradually became better, always receiving feedback from the community. It's a place where I felt home for a very long time.

However, I also had to witness how activity decreased more and more. Around the time when the San Andreas days were over, when GTA IV modding was not only possible, but many people did it, fewer and fewer people came to the forums. The site itself was basically fine, and there were still lots of mods uploaded each day, but the activity in general went down. Sure, some users just grew out of their GTA modding phase as they got older, and they are not to blame, since life always happens and sometimes, you just have to get your priorities straight. But GTAinside totally missed the opportunity to reach out to new users, users that only discovered modding recently, users that would possibly be interested in participating and creating a community again.

That process went on for years, and as the trailers for GTA V slowly began rolling in, some of us thought it would get better, and GTAinside would use the opportunity of the biggest and best GTA game ever created to attract new users. But again, nothing happened. Instead, the admin made the cheap excuse that forums just don't work anymore in times of social media. A statement that can easily be disproved by looking at gtaforums or this forum right here.

The forum didn't receive any care at all for years. There was a design update, to match the forum colors with the new GTA V theme that was introduced on the mainpage in 2014, but the software of the forum still is vBulletin 3.7.3. To put that into perspective, the release of this vBulletin version was on the 26th August 2008. That's almost exactly 9 years ago. This vBulletin version is so outdated that it doesn't receive official support anymore. But I'm sure you guys are thinking "well that's just the forum, right, why should I care?"

And here's my point. Not only the forum died slowly, but there was one point at which the admin stopped caring completely. This happened about 2 - 3 years ago. Since then, every mod is accepted, even those kinds of mods that look like effortless shit, pardon the language. And that's not even the worst part. Here's a (censored) screenshot I made just today. It's the "recommended mods" section underneath a 1941 American LaFrance firetruck I made for San Andreas:

    alt text

You could probably pick a random mod and find at least one link to a nude mod in the recommended section.

That's why I stopped uploading to GTAinside after the release of my Hudson Hornet for GTA V. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind nudity at all, and anyone is free to install whatever mod they like to. But on the other side, I put a lot of work into my stuff, and I don't want my mods to be associated with cheap nude skins. You wouldn't produce a car mod showcase video, but then upload it to a porn streaming website either, would you? Especially because it happens on literally all of the mods there, on cars, on scripts, on maps... on any mod you open, you can be sure to find at least one pair of bare boobs in the recommended section. In my case, it was even 9 pairs, so I guess, I must be lucky then?

Jokes aside, I was happy with the personal decision I've made, and I wanted to leave it that way and not make too much of a thing about it. But today, I stumbled across this thing in the "recent mods" section:

    http://www.gtainside.com/gta5/weapons/109156-zeppelin/

That thing doesn't even have "historical value" or something like that, it's just a blimp with a fucking Nazi symbol on it. This ultimately proves to me that the admin has stopped caring at all and clicks "accept" on everything, without even looking at it.

Now I'm not telling you to stop uploading to GTAinside, what you do with your mods is your own decision in the end. However, I'm trying to encourage you to think about what kinds of mods are represented there, and if you really want to be associated with that kind of content, even if it's just through the recommended mods.

Sorry for the wall of text, and thanks to everyone who made it to this point!

tl;dr: GTAinside basically uploads anything, including shitty mods, tons of nude skins and Nazi symbols. Think twice if you'd really like your mod being uploaded and showcased beneath all that other stuff I just mentioned.

  • damn.

if you're lucky you'll miss them completely. I never ran into them when I was on GTAInside, this issue you brought up seems new....

  • Ill say this...yes Gtainside has went to the shitter....BUT!!!!
It does serve a good purpose of being a total "if a car was EVER uploaded Gtainside prob has it" repository.

This has saved my ass countless times when authors here all of a sudden decide to totally remove thier mods from here.
GTA Inside gives me a chance to still grab it.

  • Damn. Yeah I think GTAInside has pretty much died at this point. I think the reason for this is that like you said the site is getting old. And probably because this site hosted GTAIV mods and now hosts GTAV mods and hence is newer it could be the reason why. Not trying to captivate this site as a wonderful site and such, since it's not that close to wonderful when you meet some of the users on here but maybe just maybe because this site is newer and more active, it could be why GTAInside lost its "fame" if you could say that.
And like you stated, GTAInside began almost a decade ago, so people will lose their GTA modding phase as they get older.

  • Thats a good backup of mods though

  • extremely disapointed those nudes mod are for san andreas.......Why people upload so many cool peds for SA but not GTA V ?

  • @BladeRJ Out of that whole thread, you took that away from it lol?

  • @BladeRJ Great job. Missed the whole point. Not many people can do that.

GTA V is seriously lacking euphoria-enhanced HDT BBP-enabled characters. :joy:

  • MODERATOR

My modding era with GTA:SA started downloading mods from GTAInside (talking about 2009-2011 period for me), and my game always crashed after 15-20min then. Since I'm on 5mods I understood why such crashes happened to me, and is because most of the mods there were and are outdated or a complete trash since long time ago.

Now, since I'm part of 5mods community (since I wasn't a moderator and just a newbie user) I always tried to find the best mods and take care of what I'm installing, where and how.

What I want to say with all of this: GTAInside is getting old and careless while a site like 5mods feels like it's very active (Also, this one is dedicated exclusively to GTA 5, so there's less job to do than in GTAInside (if they do something now...)).

Probably their problem is this, wanting to host mods files for the most common GTA games, but that's a lot of work and they're "tired" and busy....

  • Dudes, you find a lot of mods that you can't find here is one of the reasons i check gta inside once in a while.

  • Interestingly, there are still a lot of really nice mods being released to GTAInside, but most of the V Mods that are released there are here as well. In terms of San Andreas modding, GTAInside still is the biggest place for that - remember when GTAGarage and gta-worldmods.de used to be larger than GTAInside? I sure do!

But yeah, unless something is done, GTAInside will soon dwindle away until it reaches the state GTAGarage is in now - largely forgotten in favour of other, better websites.

That's true, but I don't think that makes up for all the negative aspects. Especially if you have to scroll through a wall of poor mods just to find one decent San Andreas mod.

It is, but that's nothing to be proud of in my opinion, since a lot of the San Andreas mods there are just very poorly made. If GTAInside would be the biggest place for quality San Andreas mods, things would be a lot different.

Worldmods was an amazing site, but it went downhill due to similar reasons. Their original admin was amazing, he did an incredible job and put so much time into pushing the modders in his forums to their absolute best, e.g. by testing their cars and reporting every small detail. He had to sell the site after a couple of years, and the new admin basically lost interest after some time and stopped uploading or updating anything.

  • I agree, GTAInside definitely needs better quality control. There is cool stuff on there being released fairly often, but at the moment the garbage outweighs the good stuff.

  • When I did an interview live with Young Maylay aka CJ, they pressed it days before like it was their thing all over the page and forums. I was not bothered, but then I read comments. "Tell that fucker to ask about this...", and then "Shut that interview guy up!" The forum users had no clue it was not the sites deal but mine. Pond scum, moral compass points to hell.

  • This thread is what made me sign up to GTA5mods, even though I can't even play GTA V. I just want to add my point.

So since GTAgaming shut down, I thought a move to GTAInside would be well worth it, but in the end, I'm slowly beginning to realise that it is rather a bad move in retrospective. Why? It's not the downloads (I use the English browser), but it's the quality control that ruins it. Why?

There is no moderation for comments. I know, I may deserve to be shouted down, but the lack of a 'report' button is an immediate no-no. For example, when reading a rather-badly-reviewed mod for GTA IV, someone who I assume is clearly a kid or thinks he's 'edgy' commented this for no apparent reason as a review:
    "f*ck u very much 1/10"

It also doesn't help when it comes to reviews. I disabled my ratings after a spat with one of the more infamous LCPDFR users who has a...let's just say it's flourishing account over there went and one-starred my mods. Now maybe I did deserve this in the end. However, a lack of moderation to rectify this, and maybe to warn me not to do what I did again put another nail in the coffin for me.

So I have said I wanted to quit once, and I did...for a while. However now, after realising just how toxic the community can be compared to LCPDFR and other well-moderated sites, I think I'm going to quit the site for good, and continue uploading my other, non-EMS mods back on LCPDFR.
