Whats going on with the site...?

  • My internet connection is perfect but today when attempting to enter this site so many times, nothing works and I keep receiving error messages, I struggled just to log in, after so many tries I am finally able to write about this but not sure what's causing the problem. Hopefully its fixed soon.

@TaylanOran An admin is currently looking into the issue.

  • ADMIN

Taking a look now. Just for reference, if you ever need a quick response to this or want to get the word to me ASAP, the 5Mods Discord is the fastest way to get a hold of me.

Edit: Site should be back up now.

@TaylanOran It should be working again. Please test it again and restart your browser if it doesn't work.

  • @Dark0ne @Unknown-Modder I have tested it, it works, every link, no problem. Thank you for responding and dealing with the problem so fast :)

  • @Dark0ne @Unknown-Modder I had this issue as well, right after I restarted my browser everything worked, Thank you admins for being on top of maintenance like this, you are better than companies who receive a lot of cash like ebay.

  • The sites been very erratic for me the last 2 days. Sometimes pages load fast but also time out a lot so I have to refresh, to get the page to load. Only seems to be happening with this site for me.

Anyway just thought I'd put it out there.

    Sometimes

We made a reset to the website. Lets hope it got solved. It is working fine since half an hour now

  • ADMIN

Site is getting hit hard this weekend with more than normal traffic. We're adding in another server to cope with the traffic now which should hopefully resolve it this weekend. Site will be down over the next 5 minutes.

  • ADMIN

There is a much deeper issue with the sites at the moment related to the database, and potentially, people scraping the site maliciously. Unfortunately, this is going to take a lot longer to debug than we initially hoped. We're aware of the issues on the site, so you don't need to inform us at this time, but please be aware it might take several days to get things back to how it's supposed to be due to the nature of the issue and the fact it's a weekend.

not really understanding the issues on this site. it's pretty simple to set up and maintain a website. obviously there are going to be issues that arise that are beyond anyones control. but this site is down, or vvvveeeerrrryyyy slow and just irritating to be on.

pretty sure the admins need a remedial course in website management. the dead links are a nice touch though [https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/ford-mustang-shelby-gt500-2013-by-mrfive](link url) is it really that much of a chore to remove dead links ?
Great site, full of resources an info, but the maintenance is far below par. maybe instead of trying to keep such a tight grip on "being in charge" and open the door to members that obviously have more experience in maintaining a website.

as I'm writing this, I feel I'm going to get banned for expressing an opinion that doesn't shower the mods with praise and adulation.

    oh well, theres always TOR

Do you have experience running database intensive sites that receive ~30 page views every second? If so, can I ask which ones? It would help me to understand why you're "not really understanding the issues on this site" and what your experience of such things is.

It's very simple to set up and run a "My first fan site" website full of static content. It's a whole different ball-game running a resource intensive and busy site.

wow, taking the obvious low route. insult and insinuate. you have no idea what I have and haven't done, so lets leave it at that. you can assume you know what I am capable of and not, but lets make it perfectly clear, you have no clue. period. where as I do, I can see that this site is not being run cleanly or correctly and you're woefully out of your depth. ( proven by the fact you bristled up your back and got all snarky when I made suggestions).
asking for help is not a sigh of weakness, rather a sign of intelligence. you should ask for help.

  • ADMIN

You're absolutely right, I have no clue what your experience is, hence why I just asked you what experience you have. Why have you just instantly taken an insult out of a very simple question?

    Very odd.

  • @69roadrunner that wasn't an insult or anything to take offense from. im not taking sides here but anyone can see, you are just trying to make it look like something else.

im surprised by your reply. !

that, to me, is a snarky insult. in one sentence, he automatically assumes all I've ever done is set up a go daddy account and he's the stephen hawking of web design and management.

jesus f#ck, all I'm saying is YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED SKILLED ASSISTANCE , admitting that is nothing to be embarrassed about. everybody needs help at some point.
and if you must know, I did a lot of freelance work with novalogic, back before most of you were born. and let me tell you, that sight took way more hits than this sight ever will. I'm not saying I know all the ins and outs, but it's extremely easy to set up, maintain and streamline a website today as it was compared to say.. 1998-99 ?
there are some people who have more life experience than you @Dark0ne.

  • @69roadrunner i took it as a general example . Gosh may be you do run a static "my first fan site" i think it was a general example and well it hit a nerve there.

anyways dude. chill Dark0ne is a great guy and a very good admin. this community is full of great people . and the website just had an issue for like 2 days i think. even right now it runs okay. don't worry these admins really know what they are doing and they have been doing a great job. i haven't seen other websites with so many features and forums integrated .

ofcourse no website is perfect and dark0ne has always asked for and accepted help or assisting hand from anyone who shows maturity and good intent. by doing this what you are doing is destroying any chances of help being accepted from you or any strangers that pop up.

security , cyber security is not a child's play you can't trust a random stranger to "assist" and give full control of database or servers to them.

also dark0ne has a nice team from nexus mods . and these guys are doing great. if you suggest in a positive and friendly way there is no way your good suggestion will go to waste.

Is this Lee by any chance? I see you're on a new account made 4 days ago and you talk very much like him. If it is, hey! If it's not, sorry.

that, to me, is a snarky insult. in one sentence, he automatically assumes all I've ever done is set up a go daddy account and he's the stephen hawking of web design and management.

Except that's not what I said at all. Nowhere did I say or even insinuate that's what your experience was. You're being very, very, defensive for reasons I really don't understand.

If you want to know what a snarky insult is, try: "it's pretty simple to set up and maintain a website" and "pretty sure the admins need a remedial course in website management. the dead links are a nice touch though". You didn't start well, it's only gone downhill from there.

Talking of insinuations (or shall we say, assumptions), asking for help is exactly what we did back when we first saw Rappo's code and noticed it was causing a massive memory leak, the fix for which was to restart the servers every time it randomly happened. Which is also what Rappo had to do on a fairly regular basis. We brought in a couple of very skilled friends who work in London on lucrative 6-figure salaries to try and help us get to the bottom of the issue in Rails because, at the time, it wasn't our strongest suit. Unfortunately, after 60 man-hours spent trying to find it, we still couldn't find it (nor could Rappo in his 2 years running the site). So, the search continues.

I find it funny you talk of assumptions when your first post was full of them.

Either way, we'll get to the bottom of it. Today's issues were seemingly caused by a very zealous scraper who was essentially DDoS'ing the site.

@Dark0ne I worked for Anderson Consulting for a few years. what's your point ? pretty simple questions, for which there are no answers. lets just deal with one shall we?

"why is this site loaded with dead links ?"

  • ADMIN

    Hi again, Lee.

If you're just going to ignore what I say and try and talk about points irrelevant to the OP then I'll just do the same.

Since the site is now back up and stable again I will simply close this thread. If you experience downtime again please start a new thread, PM me or mention me on our Discord as per usual.
