How do I edit .gxt2 files?

with what program can i edit .gxt2 files correctly?

Export the .gxt2 file as .oxt with OpenIV (right-click), edit it using any text editor and import back.
The OpenIV devs even have a tutorial for this:

@Unknown-Modder I just installed notepad++ and opened the global.gxt2 and it's a bunch of strange odd characters and I am stuck. I'm making a replacement radio mod and need to edit the name of the station in-game on the dial. I need to be able to edit the global.gxt2 but can't because notepad++ is opening it up strange.

@Brandoman using openiv, right click on the gxt2 file you want to edit,---> export to open format.
You will then get a global.oxt with normal characters inside
