Baby fresh to modding on PC, guidance greatly appreciated...

  • Sup dudes (and gal(s))

I got into PC gaming for the sole purpose of modding GTA5 and COD zombies lol I got COD zombies mods all figured out, now I need to get to installing these amazing GTA mods you guys made on this site! I have read tons of TUTS and watched a ton of vids, I am just curious about a few things..... help or wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Is there a "stand alone" mod that converts all or most of GTA cars into real ones? I would like to eventually have most of the vanilla cars look like real cars if at all possible.

    2. What exactly does Redux and Natural Vision really do? The videos I have seen of both all seem to have real car brands in them.... so is this due to them having additional car mods installed on top of the graphics mod?

    3. Can mods work in conjunction with other mods (I know its a loaded question but I'm fully aware of certain ones that wont work at the same time lol ie. Hulk/franklin Ironman/Franklin or Tysunami / winter wonderland

any help is seriously appreciated dudes for realz
    waffa

    ps
apologies in advance for noobish nonsense lol

  • Hi, welcome to the forums. Modding broughet me to PC gaming too, though that was a long time ago now lol.

    To answer your questions

    1. There are mod packs available, like this: http://www.moddb.com/mods/simple-authentic-car-pack-oiv-10, or this one https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0QjVaJsSaJjd2paeTF1Y0g2TGc/view

    2. Redux and Natural Vision are graphical enhancers, basically they're a pre built mix of different types of graphical mods like actual game file edits such as timecyc edits(controls in game weather and effects), textures and graphics post processing effects(ENB, Reshade, SweetFX etc).

    3. Yes most mods will work with other mods, unfortunately clashes can and likely will happen if you install a lot of mods. Always make sure to read the mod descriptions and installation instructions so you know about any requirements or incompatibilities. Also making back-ups is generally a good idea so that if your game does end up broken, you can fix it again easily.

Good luck with your modding journey :)

    ALSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I havnt modded ANYTHING just yet... I went ahead and made a copy of my gta5 folder/game and named it gta 5 modded version ..... that way I can still play online with friends with a "fresh" version of vanilla gta. Was that the right move for me to do? After a bit of googling that's the nest solution I could come up with lol if there is something else, possibly easier, that I should have done instead please lemme know. I'm kinda "wingin it" here hahaha

  • @WAFFAHOUSE You did NOT need to do that at all. First, familiarize yourself with the following -

    http://openiv.com/?p=1132

The mods folder's purpose is to store all your modifications, so that you don't risk corrupting vanilla assets, which would then crash your game. The purpose of the asi loader is to load any .asi-based scripts, while also preventing any from loading when accessing online mode. Scripthookv will also prevent any .dll-based scripts from loading, and NOTHING in your mods folder will ever load when initiating an online session.

  • @WAFFAHOUSE I need to know your PC specs first. I am going to make a lot of recommendations to get you going. I also need to know roughly how old you are too, teens, 20s, 30s...??

I appreciate your generosity with the OP, I will be watching this thread as well FYI....I've been meaning to get into mods for some time now and also want to preserve the vanilla installation as I play online every night. Again, really appreciate your generosity!
    Cheers.

  • @WAFFAHOUSE It's gonna take me awhile, because there is a LOT I have to teach you, but I will have something written up for you soon.

  • @WAFFAHOUSE It will be a LOT of reading. I am working on it in notepad, so once done will read like a small book. May take me a day or so, because the subject matter is really lengthy, and I write in bursts throughout the day, lol...

  • Don't listen to @eshenk he draws over hamburger wrappers!

I kid of course. He's good ppl.
Anyway, it's a real PITA to get used to it, it's not like Skyrim with their mod loaders and such. But after you do it by hand the first time, you get hooked.
