Dials in custom car?

  • Having a curious issue with an update for my Audi S8. I've added the SuperGT dials to the car (since they're a set of red needles), positioned them perfectly, rotated perfectly, etc., but they don't actually show up there ingame: Image

What's even more curious is that if I open the Social Club overlay, the "glitched" default version of the texture that you occasionally see in spawned cars appears, exactly where I want the dials to be: Image

I have VDT_SUPERGT set on my car and it's set as a child of vehicles_supergt_interior, so all the textures are included perfectly, they simply won't show. Any ideas?

  • Moving you over to Mod Installation Help & Troubleshooting.

  • @GTATerminal This isn't mod installation, it's mod creation.

  • @TheAdmiester you need the exact dials script. in ytd file of the car. just take out dial script being used in zmodler 3 and put it in the ytd file as .dss same name don't change the name. it will appear in the game. i think. let me know if it works.

  • @FoxtrotDelta Putting the script_rt_dials in the .ytd is the same as what I did, setting it to use vehicles_supergt_interior as a parent in vehicles.meta

  • @TheAdmiester really ? does your YTD have the exact scirpt_rt as being used in Zmodler 3?

  • @FoxtrotDelta No, because adding the parent ytd to vehicles.meta does exactly the same, that's my point. Every time I install an addon car from someone else I do that and the dials work, but on mine it doesn't.

  • @TheAdmiester try putting it in YTD. as i said. what have you go to loosE?

  • I've just done that and it didn't work, just like I said.

  • @TheAdmiester than we need an Expert here.

  • I might have a solution, first u should have 2 "layers" to your dials. the dash_emissive_opaque (1st pic) and dash_emissive (2nd pic). 3rd pic is the dials seperate from the interior mapped to script_rt_dials_*** and 4th pic is the interior dash mapped to custom dials image. And the final pic is what they look like together.. Also make sure the 2 materials are towards the top of the list in materials editor.

    1st pic 2nd pic
    3rd pic 4th pic
    5th pic

  • @masterschwag said in Dials in custom car?:

    dash_emissive

dash_emissive is enought, just make sure it's the correct texture, and that the materials of the dials, is placed after the real dials, and before the dials glass if you got one

  • @masterschwag @baba0rum I've just re-ordered the materials on my car, and it turns out there was some dial glass that I might've put my dials underneath. I'm testing it now, but thanks for the info anyway.

EDIT: Nope, that hasn't worked either unfortunately.

Im curious by child of the interior, do u mean chassis? can u show your zmodeler hierarchy?

  • I meant child as in this: http://i.imgur.com/K0Xp3zj.png

In vehicles.meta so that instead of having to put script_rt_dial inside the ytd it simply inherits it. That wasn't the problem though, as the Social Club issue confirms the dial textures are being loaded. I think it's a material/position issue.

Oh, ok, I never seen that before and all my dials work correctly so Im not sure about that. Sorry.

  • @masterschwag It's fine. As I said I've found out now that it wasn't part of the problem. It's almost definitely something to do with materials or positioning, but you can see it works perfectly fine in ZModeler here: http://i.imgur.com/Y1v1RKP.png

I just have no idea why that doesn't work the same ingame.

  • Still trying and still no luck. Dials make absolutely no sense to me. I've tried dash_emissive, dash_emissive_opaque, moving them forward above the glass, re-ordering materials, changing the glass to glass_inner, different combinations of Render Last and the Z-axis-related options, and still nothing.

I have absolutely no idea how other modders make dials work but they completely elude me.

EDIT: Just copied the dials from a car that worked, this time they were GENTAXI/poltax_interior. Copied those over, renamed the vehicles.meta entries, and it STILL doesn't work on my car. Even on this one the dials show up in OpenIV and when I open the overlay, but even dials from a working mod don't work on mine. I guess dials are just bullshit that work on their own terms.

did u try moving all the glass materials to the bottom of the materials list? that might work as well...
EDIT - I had a problem where I couldnt see the dials in game thru the glass.

  • @masterschwag Yup, that's one of the things I tried when I reordered the materials. I tried putting the dials above the glass but below other things, keeping dials where they were but moving glass to the bottom, moving the dials to the top and so on. Nothing had any effect or even any difference.

  • and u said u tried vehicle_vehglass_inner on glass material; and/or vehicle_dash_emissive_opaque on dials material.

  • @masterschwag Yup, every combination of those two.

  • My guess is search zmodeler site and ask oleg if he can help u out that was my last resort on every problem and usually before anyone answered I found an answer poking thru posts.

  • @masterschwag I've already done that, a lot of the suggestions on posts on that site were the same as the ones here. I tried everything I could find on the site related to dials but still nothing. I appreciate the attempts to help though, thanks for that.

  • @TheAdmiester may be you should make a mediafire link and and give it to some experienced person with dials. may be than it would be sorted out. not me. i am not good with dials.
