Few specific questions, just in case

  • First of all, sorry if there's a clear answer for my questions somewhere in here :D I did read a lot of topics here and Google a bit, but some things confused me a bit and others weren't clearly explained. So I better ask again, them nuke my game :D And some question may seems dumb, but I just want to clear some things.

    1. When I replace a car, can I replace any original car or I must only replace the car author mention in the "read me"?
    2. Can add-on cars be put into the traffic or they are only for me to drive?
    3. If I put a car that will not be in traffic, but only for me to drive, do I still need to pay attention for file sizes (20MB max) or can I use way "heavier" cars? If yes, is there a limit of how many "heavy" cars can I have in my garages before my game crashes?
    4. Some exotic cars very rarely spawns in traffic. Can I replace them with "heavy" cars (20MB+ file size) or do I have to stick to the limit even for them?
    5. Same as number 4, but this goes for buses and boats.
    6. If I pay a lot attention to file sizes and replace almost every car with real ones with just a slightly bigger file sizes (let's say around 5-8MB), will the game crash?
    7. Is there a limit to how many add-on cars can I add on top of the cars that are already in the game? I've read somewhere here that someone has 1100 cars in the game without the game crashing.
    8. Regarding the add-ons for the map (like custom safehouses, new buildings...), what are the best add-on maps that are loaded into the game on startup, i.e. doesn't require me to load that map every time I want to access it (like forts and some other places).
    9. When I place an add-on car via trainer and put it in my garage to save car, will it be permanently saved, or do I have to spawn it every time I want to use it?
    10. I presume that replaced cars will be in car shops as well, under real names?

I thank everybody who answer anything from here and helps me with my modding life :D

  • I can't even believe that you think that adding a 20MB vehicle replace mod is a good. Anything above 4MB, you should never ever install that as a replace mod.

I was complying by this topic regarding the file size of the replacement cars.

  • Does really nobody is willing to help out a bit ans answer shortly to few questions

  • Once again, asking for someone to spare two minutes of it's time to write some simple stuff here please.

And all I would be asking is for everybody to do some initial research on their own, but we can't have everything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. It's wise to replace the cars that are mentioned, especially if they have tuning bits. If not, it shouldn't hurt too much.
    2. If you manually add add-on vehicles, they won't spawn in traffic unless you edit some popgroup files. Packs like IVPack and VanillaWorks Extended add the vehicles to the popgroups themselves.
    3. If you only care about eye candy for yourself, why care about size? Go complain to the car authors to add proper LODs so no weird shit happens. Try stuff, if it crashes back off to a lighter alternative.
    4. Same.
    5. Same.
    6. Same. Probably should have a gameconfig that doesn't make the game shit itself.
    7. Something about a 48 limit on dlcpacks but you can combine dlcpacks to one hueg one.
    8. Why don't you try searching and trying stuff?
    9. Uh, try it? My guess is that they'd stay.
    10. You're just replacing the models, so all other references to them in-game stays original.

There are simply so many things to correct in your thinking, it scares ppl off, I think. :)

I'll give you the tl;dr version, though: don't replace cars, ever. With some low-complexity cars you probably could, but as a rule of thumb, just don't. A typical, single add-on car can consume as much resources as an entire vanilla parking lot. So, you don't want that driving around in traffic times a hundred.

You'd be using ymaps for that. They auto-load on startup, as 'native' part of the game, as it were, and load 1,000 times faster than a map loaded with Map Editor, and (oddly enough) consume virtually no extra memory. But, in all earnesty, I don't think you're ready for ymaps yet; just start with understanding the basics first.

When I place an add-on car via trainer and put it in my garage to save car, will it be permanently saved, or do I have to spawn it every time I want to use it?

Try it. And the answer is yes: it should stay saved (and with the proper tuning parts).

  • I do apologize if I ticked someone off :D I'm completely new to playing with mods (nevermind the Sims :D ) and I rather ask million question then make a mess trying on my own. I have a tendency to make a big mess trying stuff out. And I did read most of the tutorials here and google-wise, just these few thing were confusing me a bit. I do thank everybody who help with these a bit, I appreciate it.
