GTA5 crashing a bit after loading singleplayer

  • I haven't played GTA5 in a whlile, and I know all those updates came out over the summer, and I have mods installed (including OpenIV, car mods, plugins, SHV and SHVDN) and it gave me an error after selecting "singleplayer" on the loading screen, well a few seconds after.

I updated SHV already (as that kept me out of the entire game, not the loading) so i'm pretty much stuck on what to do. I didn't back anything up before the most recent GTA5 update either.

    Update

I went into Window's Event Viewer and found this: (disregard the emoji's, it's this site's format system)

How can I fix this? Like, it will load singleplayer normally but usually half a minute later it just freezes and gives me that "has stopped responding" box.

  • Consider updating your mods. Some script mods need to be updated and most mods in the mods folder are somewhat invalidated until you reinstall the parts in update.rpf.

  • I removed the script folder... maybe its an .asi file?

  • @BinaryGreen said in GTA5 crashing a bit after loading singleplayer:

I removed the script folder... maybe its an .asi file?

No. SinglePlayerApartment.dll is in Scripts/ folder.

Also, that Windoze output is useless. Instead, examine ScriptHookVDotNet2.log for clues (in the main GTA directory).

  • I don't have the "2".log but I have the regular SH.net one:

Then you're doing it wrong. :) No, seriously, if you upgraded everything correctly, you MUST have a ScriptHookVDotNet2.log; and, of course, ScriptHookVDotNet2.dll itself. If not present, reinstall the community ScripVDonet package, and delete the old ScriptHookVDotNet.dll and ScriptHookVDotNet.log from your main directory.

The older version is probably what makes things crash.

No logs are being made after the game crashes. @meimeiriver

  • So, does anyone know what I should do?

  • @BinaryGreen said in GTA5 crashing a bit after loading singleplayer:

So, does anyone know what I should do?

For starters, make sure you did what ikt (and I) said: upgrade your mods. When you do/did, "I don't have the "2".log" should no longer be part of your reply. I'm not kidding: it's pointless troubleshouting stuff when you're unwilling to upgrade your system properly (which includes replacing your upgrade.rpf in mods). When you did, get back to us.

Also, don't stare yourself blind on SPA. It is by no means certain that is the cause (in fact, very likely not).

Freezes/crashes (barring obvious script errors) are usually caused by an incorrectly tuned gameconfig too. So, when you really upgraded your install properly, try this gameconfig as well:

    Gameconfig.xml 2.0

Currently the only one for me that works -- and works well.

  • EDIT:

So, I realized that it is just my mods folder. Without it, and all the other .asi mods installed, the game doesn't crash, but just placing the mods folder in my GTA5 directory seems to make it crash while loading SP.

I believe it is because the mods folder is from June, so how would I "update" the mods folder? Get a new one, or overwrite the stuff from the GTA5 "update" or x64 folder?

Remember the part where I was talking about replacing your update.rpf in mods? :) You normally shouldn't have to do that, though, as OpenIV will simply refuse to continue until you let it.

So, here's what you do: extract your custom gameconfig and/or dlclist.xml from update.rpf in mods; copy the game's clean update.rpf to your mods folder, and reapply your custom gameconfig and/or dlclist.xml to it. Now you should be good.

If the game still crashes, try and rename your script folder (just for test), and try again: if the game no longer crashes, then the problem is in your script folder. But remember what I said about updating ScripthookV (and SHVDN). Rather common tools like Menyoo will need it. So, there's no point in doing anything with the script folder until you upgraded those 2 essentials.

Also, the mods/update/x64 can be temporarily renamed too (to test for errors in your dlcpacks). You simply need to be systematic about it, and use a process of elimination.

  • Alright, I did that. It just sucks because I can't remember which mods I installed through OpenIV, so i'm gonna have to remember as I play again. Thanks for your help though, now I just gotta reinstall all the .asi's.
