buggy, incomplete mods

  • Banned

I think this is a question that needs answering. why are people allowed to continually upload ( to the point its just about spamming ) half finished or just plain incomplete mods that look like , well, nothing good. Authors continually ignore complaints, or are downright rude when they do respond to legitimate complaints. The whole idea of a mod is to "improve off of the base, to make something equal to or better than what the game came with. I understand not everyone is on the same level, and I fully support authors that try and can take constructive criticism.
example @administrators @skyrix has like 27 mods uploaded and is continuing to upload at the cyclic rate. at least 90% have complaints that go unanswered or are met with rude comments. why is this allowed to continue. unfinished mods or just plain broken ones that cause crashes can only serve to diminish the overall quality of this site, which incidentally has dropped like a rock since this whole "auto approval" thing. can't you stop someone from uploading new and unfinished mods before they upload more and more mods, all claiming "they'll be updated soon". don't let the quality drop here. like I said, I support people who try and fully understand that everyone deserves a chance, but at some point the shit needs to stop.

  • @k6design If you're talking about the types of mods that show a car you don't see in any other country, those mods just plain suck, and the people who make them are heavily inexperienced. But they're allowed because other people will (for some reason) want them.

AKROM's mods are a big exception. He does Russian car mods with fucking fantastic quality, so good I just had to download a Russian car my self for the Criminal Russia map I also downloaded.

    As for the people who

continually ignore complaints, or are downright rude when they do respond to legitimate complaints.

these people in fact should be a little more easy about their responses. Unfortunately, because it's the internet, and like the real globe, the internet cycles with retards, and they're really isn't much to do about that, other than warn them or ban them (or get into a 2000 year long flame war with them on YouTube like half the YT community already does with billions of other channels (if you've taken your sweet time to look at the comments of a video filled with a degenerate amount of bullshit, like I have a few times...))

Not at all. I love that there are different model cars in this game. this is directed towards incomplete, buggy, or just plain awful mods. what is the point of uploading 10 poor quality mods instead of realeasing one, getting feedback, fixing it, then moving on to the next project. it's common sense really.

  • @k6design Fuck, I have a REALLY REALLY REALLY hard time uploading anything that isn't a finished project, I'm amazed anybody else can.

That's like making the world's most famous movie (e.g Spiderman: Homecoming (though I hate superhero movies beyond the damn stars in space...), and only making the first 6 scenes and then leaving a message at the end saying "SHTILL WERKEN AWN HOEM CUMING %5352 PERSHENT UHF DA WAEEEEEEEE"))

jeez, I gotta relax. thank god i'm eating a burger right now so I can easily say "fuhk awf, eym eatin my NUMBAH NEIN LAWDGE"

    (what's gotten into me??? ._.)

  • The quality control should be much better, yes, though I think the administration opted for a more community-regulated thing with bad mods getting low scores.

Sadly the new-mods feed is flooded with these kind of mods, which is a shame. This wouldn't be a problem with Nexusmods-like filtering, but that's just absent from GTA5-Mods now and filtering through the mess is rather impossible now.

That's like letting Microsoft, the same people who own Xbox, buy PlayStation, and then do everything they can to make the PlayStation fall out of league so everybody will go for the Xbox.

It feels honestly, with the way you described it, the same shit, but with different things (like not consoles but 2 websites and 1 admin, who coincidentally owns the other site (nexusmods))

  • Banned

@ikt that's not working. at all. people are giving high ratings to offset the negative ratings. it's a mess. and it's all gone to shit within the last 6 mos. what would be really nice is a block option, we all know who makes good mods and who makes shit mods here. It'd be a lot easier if we had the option of blocking the shit-mod-makers, and avoid having to sift through the refuse. nahhh, that's make too much sense.. you'll also notice not one @administrators @Global-Moderators have responded to this. sad.

  • I'd go as far as calling the filter and search abilities on the mods page a complete clusterfuck.

  • ADMIN

Calm yourself, it's been less than a day since the first post (on a Sunday) and on Mondays I play catch up from the weekend.

First of all, in the interest of transparency, you talk about things "going to shit within the last 6 months" but your account is only 8 days old. That's a bit odd. What is your main account?

In terms of being able to block mods from certain users, yes, this is a possibility. However, while the actual coding behind it is relatively simple, the problem with bringing in strong filtering systems is the fact it negates the caching system on the site which ultimately means the site requires a lot more server resources, and ergo money, to run.

At the moment we can get by with a rather modest server setup on 5Mods because the system is quite "dumb" in its implementation. I don't mean it's been coded badly. I mean it's been coded to be relatively simple so that we get a high number of hits on the cache, thus reducing costs. If we bring in extensive filtering options it will negatively impact the load times on the site, requiring us to pay a lot more to keep the sites running at the level they do now. To put it into perspective, Nexus Mods has very strong filtering options when browsing the site and we spend ~$300,000 a year on extremely powerful server clusters for the privilege. If we got rid of the filtering systems on Nexus Mods we could pretty much cache everything on the site and get by on a fraction of the server resources it currently uses.

We can offer that on Nexus Mods as the Premium Membership payments enable us to spend a lot more on hardware. 5Mods doesn't have such a system and has to make do with just advertising revenue instead.

The filtering system itself is simple to code, but hard to plan for in terms of server resources and caching and as such, it's not as simple as it first seems. We've dealt with it a lot at Nexus Mods (and still do to this day, where it causes a hell of a lot of problems for us) and I am loathe to mess with it on 5Mods at this time.

@Dark0ne first, don't take that "calm yourself" tone with me. You don't know me and I'm not your friend. Simple reapect as I have given thus far, I'll accept nothing less.

As for being a member for "8 days" someone as smart as you seem to be must be able to figure out, you can download without being a member. I had no intention of making another account, but I changed my mind becuase of this "auto approval"crap.

You're a bold faced liar if you're claiming that the auto approval thing isn't affecting the overall quality here.

Do I give a shit, no. I know there are 5-6 guys here that make unquestionably good mods. The rest is highly questionable content.

I understand that everybody is different, and everyone likes different things, but I think we can all agree that we want working, completed, bug free mods that enhance the game period.

Why can't there be a section for first time modders, or modders that are still learning? It would be a lot easier for people to choose and sort through the mods that don't even qualify as betas, or alphas for that matter.

There's a 100 ways to make this site cleaner, more organized and efficient. If you're a moderator or admin, it's you're responsibility to continually check on mods. Make sure they reach a minimum standard. ( mods that don't make the game crash, or at the very least enhance game play ).

This is why I pay for mods. I'd much rather pay a few bucks for a mod I know will work as opposed to some crap made by a 12 yr old that doesn't give a shit about what he/she produces.

Whatever, noone here will do a thing about it as evidenced by the the implementation of the auto approval system. It screams laziness, and increases the number of poor quality mods.

But whatevs, not my monkeys not my circus.

  • ADMIN

No respect was shown, bemoaning the fact you hadn't had a response yet when it had only been 17 hours since the first post, and posted late on a Sunday night for me. Hence why you were told to calm yourself. I say again, calm yourself.

If you have actual constructive feedback on how you would resolve this issue then I will certainly listen to your ideas and take it onboard. Naturally, I'd prefer it if you presented these ideas calmly and respectfully.

I have already responded to one of those ideas presented, which was deeper filtering options and the ability to block individual mod authors from showing in your results.

  • Banned

@Dark0ne ok dude. you're excuse for not responding weak af.we live in the day of DMs ,IMs and instant notifications. just like the auto update thing, implemented out of sheer laziness. like I said, not my circus, I was just pointing out where your shortcomings are. I guess you can't handle that so you obfuscate by whining about me "calming down". If I were angry, you'd know. complaining about the way a message is delivered and not the content is all you're doing, it's also the reason this site is fucking up fast and picking up speed. In a years time, if allowed to go unchecked, this site will be worse than GTAALL. good luck with that.

So, what you're saying is that we live in the age of instant messengers, so I should be able to respond within 17 hours between 9PM on a Sunday evening and 2PM on a Monday afternoon? Ok, doesn't really make sense, but I can see the level you're expecting. All I'll say is, the last admin was close to burnt out due to the expectations placed on him by himself, and the users here, and I won't be falling into the same trap

The rest is just an angry rant, saying I haven't responded when I gave a very in-depth response to the idea already proposed, so unless you have anything else constructive to say, I think I'll wait to hear from anyone else who would like to be helpful in regards to this matter.

    Have a great day.

ok, here's a helpful tip, stop letting retards upload half finished mods ? if it's a beta, mark it as such. if the mod maker has repeated complaints about a mod and has not made any attempt to address the issue, suspend his upload privileges until such time the mod is fixed or removed.

stop letting people upload one unfinished mod after another.

If you'd like I can tag you in EVERY mod that has issues that have remained broken, have been ignored or the author is just rude as shit when you offer constructive criticism. and even the dead links, which there are several of on this site.

you can honestly see where the other guy left off and this new crew took over. quality took a nose dive.

  • ADMIN

We most certainly want people using the report system to tell us of mods that are actually breaking games, definitely for broken links, and even for comments that are rude and need to be removed. Don't tag me though, use the report system and it will go to the full moderation team, including me.

So yes, please report anything that is wrong or breaks our ToS.

Have you used the report system yet? I don't see any pending reports from you but it's possible a moderator has already dealt with some, so I don't know if you have or not for sure.

  • Banned

@Dark0ne nah, nothing else gets sorted, why would I waste my time. I'm done. There will be a better site for this stuff coming soon. Not by me but others I know who are sick of amateur hour.

  • ADMIN

Ah right, so you don't report stuff and don't want to report stuff? I think that says all I need to know. You say you're done, so don't bother responding

nice. blame me because your reporting system sucks. if it worked, if there was any feedback from it, maybe I and others would use it. honestly, if you know the batteries are dead, would you keep turning it and off to see if it might magically work ?

we the users are not to blame here. administration is clearly at fault here. "quality control" or some prefer "QC" falls squarely in the realm of administration. how could it not ?

the simple fact is, you couldn't keep up with the mods being uploaded ( as evidenced by the amount of complaints from authors waiting to get there projects approved ) thusly you implemented the "auto update" and opened the floodgates to a whole new level of shite mods.

now, you're putting your responsibility on to the end users, by asking them to "report" mods that are lacking. tell me, if you couldn't keep up with the approvals, how are you going to keep up with shite mods that are pouring in here now ? the answer is, you can't.

now I'm really done, because I've wasted 20 minutes of my time arguing with a 20something who thinks he knows everything. I guess I truly am the stupid one here, for thinking anybody really gave a shit. oh well, this is how mod sites die. good luck.

here is an example of the crap I'mtalking about
    . https://www.gta5-mods.com/scripts/dlc-vehicles-spawn-on-traffic#comments_tab

if you take the time to read the comments/complaints you'll see the authors attitude sucks and the list of people reporting or complaining has been growing for a long time. why has nothing been done about it ? even the author admits it's broken, but his response "I don't have time to fix it" .. this is squarely on administration, not the users.

Any reason why you think it doesn't work? We deal with reports every day. Most reports, however, are just plain stupid or fake. E.g. "crashes game", "not work", "gay", "how install", "is this work for pirate game?", and the list goes on.

the simple fact is, you couldn't keep up with the mods being uploaded ( as evidenced by the amount of complaints from authors waiting to get there projects approved ) thusly you implemented the "auto update" and opened the floodgates to a whole new level of shite mods.

That is completely untrue. Most people who complain that their mods haven't been approved yet didn't even upload a file or have no patience at all. Not even 1 or 2 hours. Or the author didn't provide any information about what the mod does, screenshots, etc., and one of the moderators dealt with other files first.

I haven't seen one report for that file during the past few months. How would we do anything about this if nobody reports it? Ah, yes, because you think you would "waste your time"...

  • ADMIN

    Unknown Modder covered it.

    PS. I'm 31, but I'll let it slide. I wish I was still a 20 something :D

  • There's certainly room for improvement. The Misc section is a mess with configs, presets, Reshade settings, visual overhaul mods, minor texture edits, random resources, massive overhauls in gameplay and more appearing all over the place. The Vehicle section is littered with singular handling mods, a boatload of "menyoo" things, simple re-textures and normal vehicle mods. Maps is a similar story with a mix of menyoo/map editor/FiveM/proper maps being all bunched up in one place.

Just having exclude filters and a more intuitive UI to stack filters would help a lot, and the option to search within a category. The tag system as it is now is not very transparent and rather confusing. Let's take "Vehicles" since that seems to contain the most amount of black box stuff:

    https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles

    Let's say I want to check for add-ons: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/tags/add-on
    Great. Let's find a car! https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/tags/add-on+car
That's clear. Too bad the bar doesn't contain any more options, like filtering for brands. Let's take two steps back and click on just "car" instead: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/tags/car
    Great! There's a list of brands now. Let's get a Honda: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/tags/car+honda
Now there's no option to click for add-on. A normal user would just give up and go to Google or use the search. A more curious person might notice the tags changing and make up their own filter instead.

The general confusion continues in other categories, with filters like race track add-on maps not giving back most race maps due to lacking tags, and the filters on top not helping out at all, giving just generic search tags. On top of that, it's just not possible to simply exclude tags like "menyoo" and "map editor", which makes finding tracks a hell.

imo with a better filtering UI using tags and keywords, in combination with more consistent tags, the site would be much more usable.

@Unknown-Modder you're a bold faced liar. It was reported and Reyser chose to do nothing about it. and since we're discussing it, you must have read the comments on it? you can obviously see what the issue is, why haven't you addressed it ? or would you like me to cut and paste all the complaints for that mod ?

@Dark0ne wow, 31, so what you're saying is, when I was taking rds in Somalia, you were watching Mr Rogers ? kid, I've been gaming/modding for almost as long as you've been alive. I may know a thing or 2 that you don't. conversely you may know a thing or 2 I don't. but thats highly doubtful. the whole point of this was to point out serious inadequacy's with this site. you choose your own road. this whole "everybody gets a trophy" shit has gotten way out of hand.
