I wish we could disable comments and ratings altogether on demand

  • A recent incident formed this idea. There are always some people who give a bad rating because their PCs can't handle any more mods and blame it on the modder. I am also annoyed by comments of users who want features that are either out of the scope of a mod's intention or they demand to merge several mods (created by different developers) into one.
I have a "Take it or leave it" policy on my mods. That means, foremost I develop mods to enrich my game. I just share some of them with the public. So if someone doesn't like it, he doesn't have to install it. Oddly enough some people are under the impression they are entitled to demand things and we have to grant their every wish or we get a bad rating. I have really had enough of this and this is the reason why I took down ExtraProps and "Versatile Traffic".

  • @Cyron43 Welcome to the videogames development reality. The best choice for modders (and games developers) is "Take it or leave it" comments, just take helpfull data to improve the mod.

@Cyron43 uhh make better mods and you won't get complaints. you don't see a lot of whining on Aige's or ziev's stuff do ya ? nope, because their mods work, first time, everytime. sounds like you need to step up your game or get some thicker skin, or both.

  • @racer-x

i installed carcols.meta and carvariations.meta, but now i get instant crash when i try to load the game

This mod crashes my game at startup.

but by the way i cant spawn it.. i type p1 three times and nothing happen

These are all snippets of comments on one of Aige's mods. From these comments it seems like this mod is broken, doesn't it? Or maybe there is something these users did wrong in the installation of the mod they are commenting on, or a mod they previously installed, or something else entirely.

So don't go insulting someone else's ENTIRE work just because one person had a problem with a mod when there was possible evidence that it was not caused by the mod in question. I doubt you even used the mod, so you don't even know if it's broken or not, you're just listening to the judgment of one person.

@Jitnaught hahhaa yes, they were all posted by no minds who have no clue how to mod. fail. come back with some real info , if you find any.

  • @racer-x
You just said that Aige's mods are perfect because there isn't a lot of whining about Aige's mods. In a minute I found 3 complaints of crashes on one his mods. That's direct and verifiable evidence against your argument.

Your new argument is that the only people who get these problems are people who don't know how to mod. Where is your evidence that this one person who said Cyron's mods don't work knows how to mod? Where's your evidence that it's a problem with the mods and not something on the user's end? Have you tried either of the mods?

  • Banned

@Jitnaught evidence ? hhahahaha just look at the amount of downloads. and likes. you're not too smart are you ?

  • @racer-x Speaking of being smart: Apparently you haven't yet realized that you are insulting a moderator.
And about my mods. I am known for thoroughly testing my mods before release, for caring about proper memory management in my scripts and for structured programming. I develop script mods since the days of GTA IV. You don't know a bit about my mods! That's for sure.

  • @Cyron43 @Jitnaught I was gonna pull him up about his attitude earlier, but decided he's just trolling hard and succeeding. Perhaps he is xmrsh ;)

  • @krissboo Oh xmrsh. How I miss that guy - NOT!
Is he finally banned? That's the first good news I read today.

  • @Cyron43 who knows...apparently he has no life so just keeps making accounts to annoy us all in here, then he moans that people like me spend my time in a games forum and that's sad - even tho he's the one making multiple accounts to spend time in a game forum ;)
But this racerx smells just like him!!

  • @krissboo Oops sorry, I have mistaken that name with xquist.

  • @krissboo He is also one of those guys.

  • @Cyron43 Yeah I just saw some of his 'constructive' comments. The trouble is we live in a society that has forgotten what patience is, and for some reason it seems a lot of people think they are privileged and when you don't bow to their demands you're the arsehole - unfortunately that is evident not just in here but in life in general too.

  • @krissboo Sad but true.

  • @Cyron43 Ah well, at least there's a heap of decent people in here and the trolls and a-holes stick out like the sad losers they are ;)

  • @krissboo Yeah and that leads me back to the intention of this thread (see title). For all the modders with a "take it or leave it" stance. I know a bunch of good and popular modders who are with me on that. One of them even left this site (something with "Lee" in the name. I can't remember anymore).
Edit: looked it up. It was LeeC2202.
Here is what's left of him. It speaks for itself. http://gtavmodding.digital-essence.co.uk/index.html

  • @Cyron43 Oh no, can't believe LeeC2202 closed his site down, his mods were awesome but obviously he's had enough of the state of GTA modding in general.
I think maybe this site could have some form of attitude and idiot test to complete before you're allowed to comment. Actually that's given me an idea for some t-shirt logos just for all the idiots and trolls floating around here.

Here's one to start with ;)

  • @krissboo HAHAHA that's a good one. :thumbsup_tone5:
I'm going to play now. CU later.

  • @Cyron43 Well I'm gonna finish my chillout mix and then I'm gonna do some t shirts lol. Have fun :)

  • I don't believe it should be disabled on the author's demand. It is perfectly the purpose of a community to have different ratings and feedback, let's be honest, if you don't want to read any comments then the only option would be to host your own website and decide whether you include a comment system or not. I'm not sure @rappo was inclined to restrain freedom of speech besides already allowing admins/mods such power of course only when it's necessary, after all, it's all part of the community itself again.

I am also worried about the malicious outcome of such a feature. Authors blocking comments on purpose to spread their malware as long as possible, some others disabling comments because they know they fucked up something in their code and it suits them better not to get any feedback about it and so on.. the list can easily get really long.

I do perfectly agree with this, submitting ideas and requesting more features besides the mod purpose itself doesn't justify negative rating. This sort of behaviour should be reprimanded. Anyways, I find that the actual state of the comment section is balanced : it allows authors to report abusive comments and people to give mod feedback instantly.

I am confused. Is this a language barrier? With "enrich" I mean "improve" or "make it more enjoyable". I have no patreon site or any other way to make money with my mods and I don't want money.

No, no, no! I meant the way you said "Take it or leave it", which sounded like "if you're not satisfied with my product, then go try someone's else on the market" :D

  • @winject It's more like "I share my mods with you and I hope you enjoy them but you are not entitled to tell me what to do. You're not my boss!".
