Mod follow notifications (desktop or email?)

I see there is a desktop notification option for the forums, but this doesn't seem to extend to the "follow mod" option.
Is there any way to get desktop notifications or at least an email notification when a mod is updated (uploaded)? I can't see anything in the account options.
If not, this would be a most helpful feature for future consideration.
