Replacing Protagonist Vehicles

  • Does anyone know the file path for these? Assuming its been done before and nothing goes horribly wrong or it crashes game. Im not worried about story mode conflicts just tired of the same old and having to spawn the one i want on start-up. If it hasnt but you know the location let me know and ill tell you how it goes. Preesh

There's the old The Character Vehicle Mod But it's rather buggy (for one, it assumes all your vehicles will have a trunk; and, subsequently, will crash when you're on a motercycle, for instance, which doesn't have one). Caveat Emptor.

You can, however, park your fancy car on, say, Franklin's equally fancy home's driveway, and save the game (with the phone). Upon reload (even across a game-restart) you will find, surprisingly, that your new car has replaced the spot of his crappy default car. Not exactly the same, but still cute. :)

  • @meimeiriver yeah i miss the character vehicle script it always bugs out for me. but to ur suggestion that is ill give it to you a neat workaround but i usually autosave so when i load up the game the player is typically out galavanting with the ride parked nearby

  • @kinghippo2000 This mod still works great in my game. Maybe you can figure out why it doesn't in yours.

  • @kinghippo2000 I've got Franklin's crappy car replaced with this https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/audi-rs4-avant-libertywalk and it's never given me problems. It's always sitting there whenever I load up my game, and i'm sure it worked in some story missions too :)
Oh yeah, I use a "Cars (replace)" DLC folder that @westcoastsosa set up but as for replacing the normal car just search for Buffalo2 and replace it.

Yeah, that's no good. :P Typically, ppl (including me) want a customly tuned car to be the new protagonist's wheels, not just a default car.

  • @meimeiriver What do you mean? Are you saying the Audi RS4 LW isn't tuned? ;)

@meimeiriver What do you mean? I have loads of tuned cars in my Replace folder.

If you just replace a car model (like the Buffalo2), no way it will spawn with your custom tuning (I mean, how could it?!). Unless this Replace car folder you speak of is part of a mod I'm unfamiliar with.

  • @meimeiriver You might be right cause I can't remember if I "tuned" it though lol

"It's tuned, Jim, but not as we know it."

Seriously, not 'tuned' as in upgraded the way you wanted it, with custom colors, windows, paints, rims, etc.

  • @meimeiriver I'm gonna test it out later and add some custom tuning and see what happens when i restart the game, I'm genuinely interested to see if the tuning sticks or if it defaults back to normal. Altho the paint always stays white , and i remember choosing that as a tuning option in simple trainer.

When you save a car in Menyoo, for example, Menyoo itself stores a whole list of tunable parts in the xml file; replacing a .yft car model, however, will really just do that: replace the basic mesh.

  • @meimeiriver Makes sense, but i'm quite sure it's also lowered and got engine tuning etc, but as i don't often drive that car i really want to find out if it keeps the tuning or not lol. I know it kept my sound change though. But I will report back with my findings later!!

Well, if it keeps its tuning, then please tell us all about this wonder 'Replace' mod, cuz I'd sure love to have it then. :)

The sound change you made in vehicles.meta (<audioNameHash>, to be precise); so, obviously, that would stick if you left it alone after that.

  • @meimeiriver Well it's just a DLC folder but it means you don't have to replace any vanilla cars in x64e etc - you just dump em in the folder, along with any mods and it works in game lol. Anyways I'll let you know in a bit

White is simply the default color on most cars. :)

  • @meimeiriver Well after playing it turns out I must have imagined it lol cause it hasn't saved any of my changes xd

Oh and after reading my earlier comment about white paint...i meant to say I don't remember choosing white as an option - it would have been painted purple so yeah forget everything I said xd

Too bad. Would have been nice. :) But I can't say I'm surprised.

I've done this for the occassional replace ped, and if you're knowledgeable, you can often rearrange the 'drawable' parts, like hair, default clothes, etc (and rebuild the ped structure), to make the default-spawned ped come out the way you want (disabling other options, otherwise it will be random again); but I never tried this for cars, and it may not be possible for them, even.

  • @meimeiriver Yeah would have been nice to have it sitting there all modded instead of having to load it through the trainer each time - i wonder where the file that resets it lives

@kinghippo2000 bro I never actually gave you an answer to your original question lol. Franklin's car is in mods/X64e/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf, i can't remember where trevor's and Michael's cars are but I can find out for ya.

  • @Cyron43 im not complaining about that. i know why its because my pc cant seem to handle more than a script or two at once. and if the game even starts it will be buggy. ive troubleshot with it before and id rather just replace personally

  • @krissboo dawg how you get so G'd? lol i swear whenever i need help bam theres krissboo

  • @meimeiriver im personally not too concerned with the tuning parts and customization parts being compatible honestly just looking for a change. im having an in game mid life crisis i think lmao

  • @kinghippo2000 Lol, cheers man. I'm jus a geek really ;) and suppose i'm jus good at solving pc problems. Can't get my head round making mods tho - so i'll just stick to helping out when I can.

  • @krissboo haha i feel ya i been working on a map A MAP. for like 6 months. lol its legit though preview video tonight finally
