[Request_Information]Adding Base Peds ((City) Density, General Amount on Streets/Beaches...)
I changed the Settings.XML in C:\Users"#MyName#"\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V, where I changed these lines:
<CityDensity value="2.000000" />
<PedVarietyMultiplier value="10.000000" />
<VehicleVarietyMultiplier value="2.000000" />
which resulted to more cars... but no extra pedestrians.
These were the original values:
<CityDensity value="1.000000" />
<PedVarietyMultiplier value="2.000000" />
<VehicleVarietyMultiplier value="2.000000" />
One can see immediately, that my CityDensity is doubled, and my PedVarietyMultiplayer has multiplied by even 5, but to no result.
Fired up my old trusted editor, and did a compare to a 1 x peds/2 x cars and a 8 x Peds/2 X cars GameConfig.XML.
All was the same, safe for the values below:
These were the only values in that particular set that were different.
Then I opened my GameConfig.XML (clever me, right???) and compared it to a 8 X peds/2 X cars and changed a lot in there, a wee into extremes, these are few of the lines altered by me (comparison to the 8 X peds below):
One would say that's a wee much, right?
As i am looking at a GameConfig that has 8 X Peds, having these values:
My values are 5 times that of the 8 X Peds... but nothing changes.
I am at a loss, all other Ped adding files are GameConfig.XML, and some sites refer to the Settings.XML, but NEITHER do a thing, save for the vehicles.
Does anyone have a clue where to look for the right values to be changed?
And which precisely?

@Sammy1970 There are limiting factors which overrides your configuration, starting with a flag that says closespawningallowed = false setting in peds.ymt and some issues with navmesh not allowing foot traffic. This is for ambient peds. You can of course change this to be true, but then you will be treated to multiples of the same models which you may or not be able to live with. Navmesh editing is possible with CodeWalker but the consequence may have unintended effects - it just requires testing. At the present moment, I have been increasing scenario peds all throughout Vespucci, Del Perro, and Rockford east around Mnt. Zion hospital. To get real-life densities all throughout the map though, is something that will take me a long time to finish, LOL.
I’m curious if this is the same reason why subways are a ghost town?
I’ve been using @eshenk tutorials to increase ped density to great effect... However, certain areas, like metro and subway stations have very very few peds. There is no popcycle entry, and I’m really not sure how to fix this. I’ve wondered if the subway is considered ‘ocean’.. 🤔
@eshenk Hi, idk anything about it. So please bear with me. Is this like extracting certain files, searching for parameter patterns, changing those values and then rinse and repeat with another file? I'm asking because such a repetitive task could be automated by a small standalone software.
@Haunebu52 YES! Funny you mention subways, as just last night I was looking at it's navmeshes - all of which have foot-traffic turned off in it's flags - this of course can very easily be overcome. Behind the scenes, me and others, are experimenting with new ways to stream in more peds, with ambient peds being a bit more challenging. I have been working on this very thing, night and day, for the past week or so. I fear my vision though, may suffer from limits the game-engine just can't cope with. Still in a very early testing phase, trying to iron out kinks, and to get the game engine to cope with it all, while remaining stable LOL
Last night I added more peds to Rockford Hills East, and crashed a minute later. This also happened with other areas I edited, so I am now in troubleshooting mode.
@Cyron43 HA! Funny YOU mention that as well. This was just done very recently. The scenario flags had peds only spawning in very narrow windows, also the probability of them spawning at al was not guaranteed. Automated tool was used to change their values to "high priority" and to change their scheduled spawn to 24 hours.....but with a nasty side-effect - scenario vehicles were spawning without peds! This happened because the tool change all values to high priority when we only wanted this for the peds, NOT vehicles. There is absolutely no way to separate the two because when the said files are exported to a readable format, the names changes to numbers, LOL.
@eshenk Da fuq?! I was hoping this is similar to the vehicles.meta where we can easily change the spawning amount of a certain vehicle.

I won't touch this stuff any time soon, game is so finnicky that editing one thing seems fine on boot yet you crash and burn later on, and forget what exactly you were testing...

@ReNNie Well my plans have totally changed now. I have found through numerous tests, that too many scenario peds is just too resource intensive, and thus leads to crashing, especially with me already pushing vehicle densities to the limit. I have been editing navmesh to allow for more ambient peds to spawn on them, and have made an edit to peds.ymt to also allow for the spawns to appear closer with one another. If the result is better than marginal, I will post a video here to share with the community.
