Failed zlib call error



  • This is a real myth to me. Today I played the game, everything went fine. Now I wanted to play again and during loading I get this nasty error message. All I changed was DLC vehicles spawning and Ford Escape lifeguard car, I removed both, game loaded normally but after 2 minutes again crash with this annoying shit. Please help.

  • @libertz Maybe a corrupted file ? Try to open every .rpf with openIV see if there isn't a corrupted archive. It can happen, otherwise, you deleted what wasn't working so maybe you miss something, or made an error in meta files or vehicle names... It can be lot of things.. Try the best you can do , but be ready to restart from beginning . Sometimes it's just like that :/

    As @CGZ says this is usually caused by a corruption somewhere in your RPF files so do the MD5 hash checks linked in the reddit posts above



  • I suppose it can be only something I did yesterday, I worked in OpenIV basically only in x64e... I found out I had in modded rpf 3 files more than original. So weird



  • @krissboo I did the verify of files, still crashes.. this is crazy. Why me... it went like a goddamn masterpiece, I made common edit (did many of them and never had a problem, and if there was I just got things back and it went fine), I reverted it but still fuckin crashes. Thats the worst damn case



  • @libertz As I said I don't think I've had this problem so I'm not 100% but I would think it's the vanilla RPFs you need to check and not the one's in mod folder. But someone correct me if i'm wrong.



  • @krissboo really think so? Because I didnt touch them, and definitely not yesterday. Always when I did something wrong with vanilla RPFs the social club started downloading the data for repairing it.

  • It happened to me 2 times to me a long time ago , I found the corrupt archive randomly by opening every .rpf in my mod folder since the "-verify" told me my game was clear, it could only be in mod folder.
    In OpenIV Just use arrow keys in the left box to switch , open folders and archives faster , if you found a corrupt archive , you will have an error and can't open the archive.
    You should Start with all .rpf files inside update.rpf .
    Otherwise totally forgot about that but open openiv.log in main folder and take a look at the last archives loaded , it may tell you where to look, but the game loading files fast so it can crash a bit after .
    Try to use control+f and try keywords like "error" or "bad" "bad magic" I only saw one time an error inside telling me what file is fk up but we never know.
    I Hope it can help , sometimes , it's an error that we really didn't expect or don't really understand why.
    But It comes with modding



  • @cgz I opened every damn RPF in mods folder, opened normally no signs of error. Does it really should have an error and I couldnt open the archive if its corrupted? Where should I use control+f?



  • @libertz Yes you should have an error like "can't open xxx.rpf ,corrupted files " and impossible to enter in , something like that.
    If it's not a rpf, then it is a .meta files you could easily spot them , it's says "0 octects" on the right of the metafile.
    Start with looking at vehicles.meta in update.rpf, most of time it's this folder.

    Also go In GTA main folder in openiv.log , it can save you lot of time if it's telling you where to look.

    also btw do you use mods like RDE or EUP ?



  • @cgz I dont know what is RDE or EUP. In openiv.log there is too many things. What should I look for there? And I found vehicles.meta in update.rpf, I can open it normally, I have it modded according to my vehicles (I have most vehicles replaced by real ones, however thats what I got for most of the time since I got GTA 5, I never experienced crash with zlib message)



  • @libertz I asked you that because I experienced corrupted files by adding other things in .
    So, look at last lines and check with openiv inside to see if it's not in this area, be careful at the size of files .
    I think it's the only way

    As you can see it's loading the files toward update>x64>dlcpatch> but there isn't a " {M} " at the end of the line or at the first start of the path there should be wrote "mods" so it means it's not a thing in Mods folder but in the original files try to look at \update\x64\dlcpacks\patchday2ng\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\generic\gtxd.rpf\ I think its the part of roads maybe this folder is corrupted or another one before.
    So I think @krissboo was right , it may be in your vanilla rpf.
    You didn't find what is it with md5hash tool , I don't think it will change something but try with gta v launcher by adding "-verify" in the target line (right click on it) At this point , i don't know what you can do , search until you find it. It's somewhere it have to..



  • @cgz I tried to remove that, it downloaded again and of course its the same. This is a real headache I have no idea what to do with that. I cant even try to load different save game (in late 2017 I had this mysterious issue with crashing only a little while after the game loaded, but no error just it got stuck, I ran out of options, I reinstalled it completely, then after fresh reinstall to new folder it did the same, then there was only one thing, something wrong with savegame, tried different one and boom ran like a charm.) So this is also very strange because it came outta nowhere like my previous issue. These are the last lines from openiv.log I tried now:

    So now it's working? The corrupt file was the savegame ?



  • @cgz No I mean that was the last year, but back then the game at least loaded. Now it doesnt load and crashes, so I cant even try different savegame. And yes I have no idea what that is, I tried to google it.. but didnt find out anything.



  • @cgz I tried to launch it without mods folder, loaded normally. There is definitely some mistake in mods folder, but problem is I have no idea how to find out what it is...I checked openiv.log and without mods folder I didnt find this BgScript.rpf bullshit... it must have something to do with this.



  • @cgz I found out there is something wrong with the file I suspected which is x64e.rpf ... I tried it without that and game loaded. Do you know any way how to find the differences between original and modded? I mean these is so many files how can I find what is wrong...



  • @cgz look now I was browsing randomly through vehicles in that file, and wanted to open f620 car and this error appeared https://imgur.com/a/5FOpL but that car is original... wtf?



  • @libertz Sometimes openiv crash randomly I don't think f620 is the problem , Now we know it's x64e.rpf we getting closer , I think it can be paths.rpf since it was on the last lines of logs. Already have issues with this file,
    if you installed maps in the past and forgot about paths when you removed it.



  • @cgz I compared it with the one from original file and it looks like its the same. Well what should I do with that? In vehicles section I can see that difference that I have in modded x64e.rpf 3 files more than in original. But now I realised its probably only because some real cars also had _hi+ytf files, while original didnt have this. Anyway thanks for helping I really appreciate that
