game crashes whenever i enter a car/motorcycle...
-
Hey all. Recently I just installed this mod: https://www.gta5-mods.com/vehicles/best-handling-for-all-car but when i replaced the handling.meta and vehicles.meta, i mustve done something wrong because now the game loads perfectly fine but whenever I try to hop on a motorcycle or in a car, game freezes and crashes. I am unsure what to do. I have seen people saying to copy normal meta files and paste them in the mod folder but it is still happening. Is there anyway I can just reset the .meta files? how can i fix this?

@SonarCST Create a copy of the original .meta, or go through the directories of the original update folder and find back that same file then just copy it to a folder on your PC then use OpenIV to replace it.
Unless, you haven't used a mods folder... if that's the case, you're fucked, can't help you much there other then run the GTA5 Repair Tool.
If you're on Windows (obviously you would be) find something that says "Change or remove a program" From that point on, find something related to GTA5 (should be like a repair tool like I said before), then launch that program.
You'll be prompted with 2 choices
-
Uninstall Grand Theft Auto V
-
Repair Grand Theft Auto V (install discs required)
Just click repair and do what it asks you. If this doesn't fix the issue, uninstall GTA5 and then reinstall, this time after, using the mods folder for mods (create a folder named mods in the GTA5 root directory.)

I use Killatomate's handling which is just about the same: it replaces the handling.meta inside themods\update\update.rpf
So let's backtrack:
You have a mods folder and copied the vanilla update.rpf into that folder so you now havemods\update\update.rpf
?
And you have the OpenIV.asi in the root folder which enables V to actually read from the mods folder? If yes, I find it strange the game crashes like it does
Because it crashes as it can't read from the meta files when you spawn the car model
So either the meta files are missing completely or the mod files you downloaded contain a syntax errorEither way, dragging in the vanilla vehicles.meta and handling.meta from the unmodded vanilla update.rpf (in update\update.rpf) so not from the mods folder back into the same place but in the update.rpf in the mods folder ... should work?
If not, the suggestion by @krashadam to remove the mod folder completely and use the GTAV_Setup_Tool.exe to validate the files is the way to go

Hehe, keep in mind how long it's been since I've truly modded GTA5.
You'll need @krashadam from mid 2016 back here, that's the guy who knows about copying vanilla files to the mods folder.
(honestly, guy, idfk what the hell my last post was anymore. just use the repair tool ffs don't listen to my other BS before that.)
EDIT: was your previous text before mentioning my suggestion also directed to me? it's 1:28am right now so I'm very confused.

@ReNNie if it helps any, the mod download also had me replace the vehicles.meta.
I have a mods folder. and I tried to put the vanilla .meta files in but it didnt fix it. Except I am not sure if i replaced both .meta's (mods and normal directory) is there any way i can redownload the normal .meta? I also had the Sabre Turbo replaced with a car, then the replaced the vehicles.meta is there anyway that could affect it?
