Need advice from those with experience as texture artists.



  • I am trying to do an overhaul of these shtty grass textures R left us. This is not the tall standing grass you see on the hills or mountainous regions of the map, but rather lawn-type grass. Default resolution is either 512 or 1k, mine are 2k. First picture is my actual texture, please click it to zoom in, so you can see the detail. Second pic is a screenshot of said texture in-game. What is going on here? Not sure how the game-engine is distorting it to look as is does, so any advice on how to fix this?

    Where (and how) did you replace that grass? I have no experience with grass, but the game may downscale your grass image when it expects a 512k image. Is there a <HDTxd> entry for it in the _manifest you can use instead, maybe?



  • @meimeiriver No, it's NOT that. I have done this before. I think I have an idea, so will be testing this tonight again. Even codewalker could load it but I don't think codewalker loads all assets the way game-engine does.



  • @meimeiriver Enclosed in the same ytd are these four rgba4 textures - each looking exactly identical to one another. I was told that they might be responsible for giving the grass a sense of height. Now those textures are 512 while mine is 2k. I just figured the game would tile those within my 2k sized texture, but maybe I was wrong. I am going to make those four textures also 2 k, with the belief that it must somehow be related to my issue. Also these grass textures appear to be animated, as the grass actually compresses when you step on it, I can clearly see individual grass blades moving while walking through it. Never really noticed this before.
