Steam Being Retarded

My steam said my GTA wasn't installed (which it was, I checked). I clicked install and it said "Discovering existing game files.." was like okay cool it'll see i have the game installed...boy was I wrong. steam decided to just fucking out of nowhere DELETE all my .exe's?????
this happened to anyone else?

Yep, Steam isn't very good with installing games for which you have the files for already. Make a copy of GTA V's appmanifest and if this happens again restore that appmanifest. That should make Steam recognize the game again.

Yes. But the only ever time that happened, is when I tried to run gta5.exe manually. STEAM doesn't like that, and (rather agressively) assumes you have a cracked version somehow (to bypass Social Club or something); and subsequently starts to wipe stuff.
And you're right, "Discovering existing game files" is a joke.

@meimeiriver what do you mean run it manually? How do you run it?

Manual, as in 'double-clicking on the gta5.exe file'. I usually run mine via a desktop shortcut (put their by STEAM, on my request) that points to steam://rungameid/271590

@meimeiriver see I use the shortcut but it still did it

And that makes STEAM retarded.
All kidding aside, yeah, it shouldn't do that.
