Handling project - HELP



  • Hello,

    I'm running the game with a realistic handling but I see that cops have troubles to stick on a good driving. That's a way too easy for me. By the way, I'm not looking for a realistic dispatch or increase the difficulty in general, I just wanna make the chases more intense.

    So I got an idea. I took the values of a arcade handling, apply to a police car only and I got the surprise that this car was sticking on me so well during chases and I really got challenged. A good point.

    However, the behavior of the car was a bit too much unrealistic compared to the others so I was thinking that I could just apply the average handling values between arcade and realistic driving. I'm 90% sure I will be satisfied with that.

    But I don't understand the values effects. If someone could explain what the values do in game with some example, I will be very grateful !
    I'm currently trying to understand by comparing two handling.meta file (arcade and realistic) but hard for me to catch the meaning.

    FYI :
    Long time ago, I proposed to create a mod which will be able to spawn a boss police car when you reach 3 or 4 stars. The idea is, during a long chase, maybe after 5mn, a tough police car (Chevrolet, Porsche, Mustang GT, ...) spawn and stick on your ass for 5mn (or longer). This car will have better abilities/skills than the common cops --> a bit like NFS.
    It would require an Add-on car, set up for the special spawning. And for the skills, only let the arcade handling while everyone else in game use the realistic handling.

    Anyway, let's focus on the main topic here, I'll update my post for the mod proposition.

    So I was thinking that I could tweak only the brakes (FBRAKEFORCE), the grip and turn values (FTRACTIONCURVEMAX, FTRACTIONCURVEMIN, FTRACTIONLATERAL) and maybe some values of suspensions.
    It should be enough to make the driving easier for the cops, right ?

    I don't really have the time to play with values (I can without sleeping anymore) so is it ok if I make the average between the arcade driving values and the realistic ones on the values mentioned above ?

    Please tell me what you think and correct me if I'm wrong.

  • For those who are interested.

    I tested and corrected the values.

    I mostly tweaked the brakes and tractions values of the basic police cars (police/police2/police3) on the handling.meta of Realistic Driving mod.
    I also changed the damages values to make them stronger to avoid the begin a chase with a too damaged car.

    So now, surely these police cars are handling differently than the other cars but it will not bother me coz I don't play with those even if I play as a cop. I use a add-on police car with a realistic handling.

    But during the chases, honestly, this is much better. Cops are not bumping everything, even at high speed chases and if they do, it's because you drive like a real pro.

    So all good for this topic. I advice players looking for "smarter" or skillful cops to use this way instead of install mod which will tweak too much files and may put at risk your game (for example, no matter what, RDE crashed my game, even a clean game. Or, for me, the other police mods modify too much the police system).
