My first gasping plea for help

  • MODERATOR

Recently, to my ever-lasting sadness, I realized QuantV was the cause of my game often crashing at startup. See: Is your game crashing?! I've been looking for a replacement. I looked into NaturalVision Remastered (NVR), but it seems awfully intrusive, changing just about everything, plus car textures to boot. It all looks pretty professional, though, so I haven't ruled it out entirely.

Currently I'm essentially running on an ENB and ReShade 'stump' (after removing QuantV). So, can anyone recommend a decent replacement? One that preferably doesn't change every aspect of my install. Thanks.

  • Lovely, lovely title.
Bet someone will be really happy to see that.

VV or NVR, only tried those, both didn't disappoint.
I don't like NVR's some replacements, like replacing the GTA V logo during the loading screens. But those files can easily be reverted back to vanilla. Both mods doesn't affect performance, I run on 1080p with 0 FPS drops, and 4K (when I need to take SS) at stable locked 30 FPS.
I really can't think of anything else, there are a lot of graphic "enhancements" out there, but most of them are either outdated, ignored by the author or unfinished.

  • NVR doesn't use Reshade as a must BTW, so you might gain some extra FPS if you use that.

Thanks for the reply and advice! :) Guess I should really give NVR a try!

I'm now thinking maybe all I really want is VisualV. :) It just feels like NVR is a nightmare waiting to happen on my install.

  • @meimeiriver Maybe you've noticed, I just came back after, like 7 months. First thing I did after installing necessary tools was installing VisualV, and somehow it just didn't felt right. I couldn't get this look I wanted for my screenshots.
Like these, for example. This is NVR.

The interiors never looked good. If you're not into taking screenshots and just play GTA V for fun, I think VV would do just fine.

Those NVR shots look amazing, I have to admit! :) I do love interiors, though -- a lot. If I'll install NVR, then I will likely remove any and all changes to cars and/or carcols make (although, come to think of it, I suspect he uses the carcols to change the <Ligths> section of them).

    P.S. Welcome back! :)

  • @meimeiriver Yeah, NVR changes a lot of stuff, I just went through the manual installation file, and carcols.YMT was there, and it alters vehshare.YTD, scenarios.META, weapons.META, witnessinformation, taskdata and some other stuff you wouldn't expect to be altered by a graphics mod. So yeah, most of your modded files will be reverted back I guess. I guess you have to choose between beauty and the trouble of reinstalling all your mods. :stuck_out_tongue:

  • MODERATOR

@V4D3R The pertinent question, of course, is, all those things you mention, why do I need those changed?! Does it replace all car textures with higher-res ones? (Which is not necessarily a plus, btw). I'm inclined to just remove all car stuff, and just keep the graphic enhancements.

Also, unless NVR replaces entire .rpf files (which I don't think it does, save maybe for x64e.rpf, from what I could tell from a cursory look), my own mods/addons are all in areas not affected by NVR (like mpapartment and such), or inside my 4 addon DLC's. But it still looks like a rather intrusive operation; and, as these things go, it may revert to what it thinks are vanilla carcols.meta files that maybe already have been updated with new patchdays, and such. I'm simply very wary when it comes to letting a mod make that many deep changes. :)

  • @meimeiriver I have no idea what happened to NVR TBH, back then it only had timecycle files and ENB and lens flare and some reflection modifiers, after these months it has gone so far. It would be better if you ask Razed or a GSF (NVR Discord) member what and where exactly it changes things. It does have the manual installation option, and even if it didn't I'm sure you know how to extract OIV files.

I like some improvements like this one, for example. I always liked coronas, but for some cars, especially modern ones with LED DRLs, they can look ugly. But as description says, it keeps coronas of street lights.

And ofc it comes with some other stuff you probably already know of.

Honestly I think NVR would be better for clean installations, because then you can replace all the stuff you want without worrying. It would be better if you try VV first, since NVR ReadMe says "Install the latest version of VisualV before proceeding with the manual install." as optional.

Yeah, examing the .OIV file as we speak. :) (It's just a ZIP file, really). I usually roll a custom one, like I did for QuantV, with my custom dlclist.xml and gameconfig, startup screen, etc. in it.

I may indeed need to let go of ReShade. ENB probably suffices. And I'll likely install Darker Nights, and will only keep the graphics enhancements of NVR.

Thanks for all the info, btw!

    P.S. Weren't you a Moderator before? :)

  • @meimeiriver Yes I was, and I decided to leave, the place has enough moderators, and back then it was my final days at school, a life changing final exam was around the corner so I had to leave for the best. Now I'm in university, also spending the whole week there, usually from 9am-5pm or 12-5pm. So it's kinda hard for me to help the community now. :frowning2:

  • MODERATOR

@V4D3R how did you become a moderator? Is there any special requirements you need?

  • @Reacon I didn't do anything else except helping out users, and rappo, the previous owner gave me a chance. There's nothing really much about being one, you just get to lock, move and edit threads and posts, approve or remove mods, that too is now automatic, so moderators aren't much needed to that and advising and warning or banning troublesome users. It's actually like a part time job really, and IMO you have to be committed to it. Also it's good to have good communication skills so you won't piss off users who asks for your help, understand troublesome users etc. Please don't change the topic BTW, ik meimeiriver asked about my past, but that's not this topic is about. You could have sent a PM instead.

  • MODERATOR

@V4D3R yeah my bad never thought about PMing you but thanks for the info!

@V4D3R I installed VisualV. Weathers and all look nice; but the chrome on my Porsche 918 looked positively gross. I had to revert, sadly. Thanks for all your help anyway, of course. :)

  • @meimeiriver Did you try NVR yet?

No, as it takes VisualV as basis. And the latter really messed up the engine look of my Porsche 918; so I figured there's no point to continue with NVR, after the VV oddness.

  • @meimeiriver Can you tell me who's 918 it is? I'd like to have a look of this issue you said. Thanks.

  • @meimeiriver I used to run NVR too. I am very happily back on Damned Enhancer!

  • @meimeiriver So I use Damned Enhancer with his bonus reshade, gamma turned down until I can barely see the R, using the cloudhats from Visual V, and Visual V clouds and cloudkeyframes.

It was Se7enMoon's one: 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder & Weissach Kit With the back part off (showing the bare engine). The chrome looked real weird, and the metal all plastic-y.
