Which Modders Produce the Better Quality Mods?

  • @IAmJFry Thank you. I am sure though @GTA-Modding-Noob means the same.

  • @Cyron43 said in Which Modders Produce the Better Quality Mods?:

BTW was that you who disliked my comment regarding my VAutodrive mod (fleeing peds don't drive to a waypoint)?

You mean I disliked your comment about Autodrive? Dude, revert to the previous page - I actually support you! ;)

The question was out of curiosity and I did not rate the answer.

  • @Cyron43 like @IAmJFry said your post is more clear indead.

Now i think of, on a hand that kind right, but on the other it's kind of useless. Useless if there is already a newer mod uploaded by someone else who's got everything alright. I'm planning to update my previous mod (those that arent uploaded by someone else that is better than mine, so the very old tho) to use their own dlc.

edit: in case you wonder, that not me who downvoted your post about VautoDrive

  • @TheMurderousCricket Thanks man. I'm sorry for suspecting you. I'm going to revise my comment now.

  • @Cyron43 said in Which Modders Produce the Better Quality Mods?:

Here is the latest example of false rating and why I've had enough of modding for the public:
    alt text

I couldn't believe someone downvoted this one. I get that all the time. That or the "Your mod isn't working" type ones that give a low rating and it turns out none of their scripts are working and it's all user error.

  • @baba0rum said in Which Modders Produce the Better Quality Mods?:

    Quite alright.

  • @IAmJFry Tell me about it. I haven't counted the downvotes from people who didn't get it to work. It always came out they were just too lazy to read the instructions. You wouldn't believe how many lines of code VAutodrive consists of for an autopilot and (rough guess) about 50% are to make it fool proof. Once everything is installed correctly, it just runs. I use it every single day and it never crashed or messed up the game.

  • MODERATOR

@Cyron43 I don't think we need to go on a witch-hunt for who downvoted your comment, and it's irrelevant to this topic anyway.

  • @TheMurderousCricket Time doesn't mean squat. I work, play games, mod a dozen different PC games and have an outside life. Testing a mod before you upload it to a site takes less than five minutes. These excuses are dumb. What? you make a car and just upload it here? Seriously? Is it that hard to open GTA first?

@IAmJFry So simply asking for who makes good mods and stating I'm sick of lazy crap makes me the hostile douch? You and the other half responding here didn't contribute shit and just came here to be pricks because of what I said. Clearly some of you are total narcissists. I don't have time to read your abuse, either contribute and help or piss off. What am I supposed to say? Thanks guys smiley face for coming here just to abuse me over pointing out laziness? Clearly your the hostile, you just came here to say I'm a hostile douch. I didn't even post my own profanities or argue until people started taking jabs at me you jerk.

@Cyron43 Don't waste your 'breath'. The people here who are against 'lazy modders are lazy' arguments are probably going to be down voting your stuff now just for the fun of it.

  • @GTA-Modding-Noob
Dude, everyone here is calm and have come to an agreement. Chill.

  • @IAmJFry So I have to chill, whilst you and everyone else can keep calling me a prick and taking jabs basically...? I will chill when people suggest decent mods and stop taking jabs at me over my stance on laziness...

I'd understand if I called someone an asshole for disagreeing with me or stole someones mod but all the abuse over my opinion is completely unwarranted.

EDIT: I'm chill now. But I swear if I see another post with someone getting aggro over my opinion. Honestly, I just don't understand what's so aggravating. So back on topic. We got 1 suggestion. JUST ONE. Surely there are some more quality mods/authors you people have found. Ca'mon, bring em' to the limelight!

  • @Cyron43

That's quite alright. Just a misunderstanding. By the way, I think you can hoover over the like / dislike counter and it should list up and down voters. It works on Firefox in my case anyway...

The problem does not lie within your opinion but in a way you present it. Which, excuse me, sounds very authoritarian and hostile.

EDIT: By the way I can, sort of, relate now because I stumbled upon an incomplete version of a mod. The author came back to me and suggested I try a "new" version of this mod dated April 2018...

It has same problems and is even more dull than the original...

Complaints are valid if someone is active as a modder but keeps marketing same old, same old as "recent" mod versions... In that case, I understand a criticism.

  • @TheMurderousCricket Its just annoying. Honestly, to re-state my opinion stance. I get black text that shows no emotion can confuse others or cause mixed conceptions- Its not anger, its more upsetting and disappointment. What ULTIMATELY grinds my gears is when you point out a small issue and the author turns around and basically tells you get lost, its fine, cbf, its your game. You know the usual excuses. I'd understand if they said, "hey you help me out and fix it" or "I'll do it but I'm busy with life". People rub off others wrongly.

Like before, I fixed some code for a script and so far the author of said script has done nothing (I'm too scared to name names to stir the pot but some may know who I am referring to, and or the mod author might know clearly who they are). At first they didn't believe me that there was an issue UNTIL I sent a picture. They finally said they'd fix it for everyone else (since we're not allowed to upload or even give others the fixed files) and months have passed and I see no new version yet.

Its more of an upsetting thing than an angry thing for me. Like if you had a mod, and I took the time to fix it and I told you "Hey I fixed it, do you want the fixed files?" (whether or not I bug you for credit), I'd say, Hell yeah and I'd give credit to the fix. Would you rather upload a fixed version made by someone else? Especially is you're one of those people who don't have the time? Or keep the busted thing and get hundreds of mentions, complaints, down votes etc.?

That perplexes me. Is it an ego or pride thing? I'd accept any help I could get regardless. Don't understand why some don't. The other smaller thing that just bugged me was that some bugs are so sloppy, it seems like I made you a car, and I just uploaded it straight here without even bothering to test it in GTA V first. And because of this some cars here also brick your game and authors do nothing about it. Know what I'm saying?

  • @GTA-Modding-Noob I agree with you, but I think sometimes there is nothing to do with some people, that their choice..
It's a shame that you can't share working stuff that have been forsaken.
If every mods was free to use to edit and share(only crediting), every mod would be bigger and bigger and more optimized time after time modders after modders(bcoz lot of them don't stay 4life),
but as you all know modding take a lot of efforts and time wasted irl, I get why some gratitude is important in return and that's maybe why some don't want to see their work in hand of others.
But I really don't get why they didn't want to update their mod, you know , sometimes "do not try to understand" ^^

So to stay on topic I would like to hightlight this one :

Yeah, I realize I'm probably not going to make a lot of friends with this post, but I kinda agree with what you said.

A while back, @GTA-Modding-Noob made a great post about modders' laziness, and severe lack of testing before publishing their stuff. And I support his sentiment in full, and wholeheartedly. Doesn't mean I think it's all that healthy per se to start yet another round of rather hostile modder bashing, several days later -- especially not when under the guise of a pretend-question ('Which Modders Produce the Better Quality Mods?'). The initial point was made, and well-received. Do we really need another round of modder bashing for this?!

I have no reason to assume @GTA-Modding-Noob doesn't know his stuff. He seems rather capable to me. Wouldn't mind seeing his abilities expressed in slightly more constructive ways, though.

^^ This is very true, of course. And I've personally seen many very talented modders leave, simply because they didn't want to put up with the abusive crap of players any more, blaming them for everything wrong with their game.

It's simply the same laziness. :) I only see 2 ways around that:

    1. Moderators should become a lot stricter in approving mods and/or be able to revoke earlier approved work, when feedback clearly indicates it doesn't live up to standards, after all.

    2. After it has been established a mod has de facto been abandoned, with like a 2-year default moratorium on it, others should be allowed to take over the project, so as to continue its existence, and to see to it that much needed fixes are being made.

The latter would be difficult, legal-wise, but would clearly be the reasonable solution.

  • @meimeiriver

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it should not be a problem for anyone. My feeling was that it was just not the right way to express it. I could even dig this view. If it wasn't so authoritarian. :/

Oh irony... the funny thing is that each time someone overtly supports GTA-Modding-Noob's view, (regardless of how it is expressed) I myself find reasons to side with him! ;)

Just a day, two ago, when you've been writing this post, I found this mod (https://www.gta5-mods.com/scripts/pedestrian-riot) where author explicitly vows not to abandon it... Which he did anyway. Just read the description and you'll understand.

So yes, I understand both sides of the problem. As for this mod, the general idea behind it is very, very good - easily configurable weapons, buddy system, extant peds turning evil. The problem is it is a mess top to bottom and was never updated despite what was said.

In general, I think it is not wise to make promises if you think you won't be able to keep them. Or at least, it would be nice to say "Sorry fellas, but I lost interest in GTA / found new job. Have no time for modding, hope you won't hold grudges". Something along these lines.

Yeah I know that guy. May I say it's typical for him? He is one of those modders who tosses a half-baked mod to the public, never again cares for it and just moves on to the next. Yet he is one of the most renown GTA V modders. Strange, isn't it?

  • ^^ This is very true, of course. And I've personally seen many very talented modders leave, simply because they didn't want to put up with the abusive crap of players any more, blaming them for everything wrong with their game.

This is pretty much why I’ve decided to leave and work on stuff for a few people here or there and that’s it.

  • Ahhh, that explains a lot. Gone into quantity instead of quality.

Yes, I think it's better to have two - three well maintained mods and a clear mind, rather than try to manage chaos.

  • So, let's to answer to the post name:

BEST MODS CREATORS FOR ME ARE:

    PED SKINS: Alex189
    VEHICLES: SkylineGTRFreak
SCRIPTS: JulioNIB, Eddlm, sollaholla, UnknownModder and leec202 (a true videogames professional, but he is out of GTA V modding)
    MAPS: Dekurwinator and sollaholla
    WEAPONS: Jridah and Terry Kaffarov

And finally exists a guy not so famous but for me he is the big modder here afaik, his nickname is Rarefacer and he has every skill to do any mod, no matter what type. I always request to him my personal mods, his quality is in the Top.

  • My favorite modders are:

    WEAPONS: ViktorMor
    SCRIPTS: Unknown Modder
VEHICLES: CANAL EMBRAER GTA, PANICO TOTAL, yanfenglenfan, skyrix, Neophyte Industries, China_Dazu, SkylineGTRFreak, [YCA]Vsoreny and [DTD]RsMods.

PLAYER: Alex189, RoGun, DoctorMike, MAESTRE and almico

    They have make amazing mods.

Finally, mods are a hobby, each one invest time for fun, not to be slave of perfection, even the best and skilled modders are limited by models quality, tools and game features and their free time to invest in a mod.

Agreed, we do this for free! It's an expression of the modders mind. Not one of us are perfect, and if you think you are...(pointing finger)....I feel sorry for you.

Nobody expects perfection. You should read some posts before replying.
