Help please installing mods?


  • Hey just wanted a little help here, first time poster so please bare with me. I wanted to try and figure this out myself before I annoyed anyone online with my problem lol.

    So, I've been away from my GTA for a few months, and wanted to come back to playing a fresh modded install.
    Decided to give Natural Vision another try, (Which worked perfect before) but sadly when I installed everything it took me back to my desktop. I get the usual long pause, and then crash before the Rockstar logo even pops up. Sometimes it takes me to the menu where I can select options, online, or story, and it just crashes shortly after choosing story mode. I follow the instructions by the letter. Fresh install, my drivers are all updated, bios as well, I have the latest versions of everything, (Scripthook, OpenIV, NVR etc.) I have asi loader going, I've tried NVR, and VisualV by itself with no optional addons and still crashes. Even if I throw in any kind of texture mods or anything that deals with graphics it will crash (That's all I've tried installing as of right now).

    What am I doing wrong or am I missing something? I delete the mods folder and it works fine, but that defeats the purpose lol.

    My PC specs are decent I think.

    AMD Ryzen 7 1700
    X370 XPower Gaming Titanium
    16GB DDR4 3200
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

    Oh I didn't buy the game from steam if that helps, from the social club warehouse thing. Any help would be appreciated. I just want to play with mods again lol.

    Oh and my game version is 1.0.1493

  • @xocherrybomb Hey there, it could be any number of things causing this but try this first and see what happens.

    Go to your Documents/Rockstar/GTA V folder and look for settings.xml. Open that with a text editor (notepad++ or similar program) and look for the line that says <DX_Version value="2" /> and change the number to 1 or 0 and try running the game again.

  • @xocherrybomb Oh and it could also be caused by a USB device so try removing controllers etc (leave keyboard plugged in) and try again.

  • @krissboo Well, it loads up perfect when I set it to 0, so there's progress I guess lol (it doesn't load on 2 or 1). But the enb mod is super bright as a result lol.

    I am using the Radiance mod though.
    Also I was trying out this PRSA mod, and I tweak stuff in the effects tab of the ENB but no changes while I have it in DX at 0.

    Again sorry for annoying lol.

    It's all good, and not annoying - I've been through this crash myself and it's normally associated with a graphics mod of some kind. Are you using reshade?

    And are you using NVR?

  • @krissboo No reshade, and I haven't put NVR in yet. Should I try putting it in now since I got past the loading screen?

  • @xocherrybomb i'm not sure about nvr, I keep reading that it installs extras that are breaking the game (don't quote me on that tho ;) )

  • @xocherrybomb How do you have your enblocal.ini setup? Mine looks like this

    The "proxy library" line points to Reshade.dll but if you try it without reshade then leave that bit blank.

  • @xocherrybomb Maybe just try VisualV on it's own for now and then if your game works see if you can change your dxvalue back to 1 or 2

  • @xocherrybomb Alternatively you could roll back and use https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/gtavlauncherbypass for now, but you'll need to have a backup of the last version. They are available online somewhere but can't link here. I'm not able to help tonight as i'll be away from the pc but can help you through it tomorrow if you want :)
