What mods are you using?
What game version?
Does it crash when not using mods folder?

This happened to me once, my fix ??
According to me it happens due to faulty or unupdated scripts. Atleast in my case !!
I removed all my scripts from the game folder then installed them one by one and found out the faulty one or the once which was not updated and simply removed it.
Make sure scripthook V and dotnet are updated too

@Raval Thanks for responding! Im currently only running one mod, GTA Realism 9.0 it has its own scripts.

@Reacon Im only running one mod (https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/gta-realism) and my game is up to date. No the game works fine without the mods folder

@Killy1 Hmmm in that case make sure you don't have the vanilla gameconfig and try to remove the mod and then see if the problem persists... honestly I haven't use this mod so I cannot tell you much

@Killy1 I suggest you to don't use the GTA Realism mod anymore.
The reason is simple:
The mod is outdated and that's causing your game crashes. GTA Realism mod needs a serious update for the current game version, and it's not gonna be released anytime soon.

@Killy1 Unfortunately, graphics mods are not exempt from "update duty". Each time a new R* update is out, graphics mods need to be updated too.
Given the fact GTA Realism has not been updated in months (if not years) it will continue crashing your game.
In fact, any mod that has to be compatible with a game version will give you crashes if you use an obsolete version of such. That is why deleting "mods" folder usually "solves" the crashing problems...
If you look for a simple (yet sophisticated) graphics mod, you may try Visual IV. It is simple and lightweight. Offers better quality without burdening your system.
