[Help Req] Painting skins on vehicles - low resolution / blotchy

  • MODERATOR

    Hello,

    @Akila_Reigns @FoxtrotDelta

    I am working on my first vehicle skin, it is for that amazing Osprey that @SkylineGTRFreak made. I am attempting to make a US Marine Corps skin. I have found that the resolution is blotchy and I was wondering if I was missing a setting when I was saving within Photoshop or something. Below are two in game pictures... you can see what I mean... the "802" on the tail and the "Marines" on the fuselage are part of another file that seems to be pumping out a higer resolution... it is like an overlay. The black on the tail, the white helmet of the knight, the "00" and the "Y W" are painted on the skin it self.

    Any pro tips or advice on how I might be able to expand that dirt map lay over that is high resolution or perhaps bump up the resolution on the vehicle skin paint layer?

    Thank you in advance!

    I think it is the high contrast that is giving me trouble... if I so with a gray scale version it comes out nicer... but I still wish I could make it crisp and high resolution on the tail logo and lettering.

  • Got 2 questions:

    First, is what resolution is the texture again? I may have it in higher resolution, but I can't promise that.
    Second, what format are you using to save it? (png, dds, jpg, etc?)

    @SkylineGTRFreak

    The files I extracted from the ytd were PNG. I opened them in PS and when done painting saved them as PNG uncompressed with no interlacing.

    I don't have my computer in front of me at the moment so I don't know the file name, sorry.

    I don't understand the lettering file, the one with Marines, in take warnings, and arrows... this file allows for mirroringof lettering on both sides of the plane but it doesn't seem to be adjustable canvas. If I could increase its size and map it to the tail I could make a bunch of different cool hi-res tails.

    I want to learn this so I can make other liveries on other models as well. I greatly appreciate your kind assistance. Thank you for everything you do for everyone in the GTA community!
