Capped at 19fps and menu strange behavior

  • Hello there.
This is my first time posting, so sorry for any mistakes.
I've been experiencing strange behavior in gta V, I'll try to explain them all:

    • No matter what part of the map I am in, I always get 19fps with the following usages and temps:
-CPU 40%~70%, GPU 18%~40%, almost 8gb of RAM usage and temps are all below 50 Celsius.
-My specs: GTX 1080, I5 7600K (Non OC), 16GB 3000Mhz, Windows 10 latest build and GTA V also latest version.
    • As for the menu behavior: normally it works fine, but I get micro stuttering every constant time. It's possible to see my GPU usage drop to 0% or below 10% and after it would come back to 99%. If I observe the menu for 10 seconds, this would happen at least 5 or more times. Some times it wouldn't even register the command, for example, if I press the down buttom, it won't do anything.

I have several scripts installed and only one mod installed. I haven't been able to test it without them, but I don't think it would be necessary. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

What about the latest drivers for your GPU, motherboard firmware, etc? Just because the game and OS are fully up to date doesn't mean that your drivers for your machine will be.

    Why not?
Bug hunting is best done without asi and dll scripts active

    I always get 19fps

After getting a 4K GSync monitor for myself for Christmas I've noticed a tendency for my game to change the Hz setting to 24Hz if I change my graphics settings (I've seen a 19fps constant cap when it happens sometimes). Make sure yours is on 60Hz.

Ideas for your other problems (also known as the shotgun approach). Test load game after each one:

    • Download & use Display Driver Uninstaller (in Windows Safe Mode) to uninstall your GPU driver & then redownload (don't use the same copy if you have one stored) & install the newest driver.

    • Rename/temporarily remove 'scripts' folder & also remove any '.asi' plugins from main GTA V folder to remove them as variables.

    • Test game without 'mods' folder if you are using one. Diagnostic variable remove mostly. Doubt it will change anything but you're basically looking for anything that changes the result in-game. From there you can usually pin-point a culprit.

    • Make sure 'GTA5.exe' is set to 'High' priority in Task Manager (Task Manager > Right-click 'GTA5.exe' > 'Set CPU Priority' > 'High'). You can use a program like Prio to set the priority permanently so that 'GTA5.exe' starts with 'High' priority every time (it reverts to 'Normal' priority each start otherwise).
Note: This is mostly just 'good practice' for GTAV rather than diagnostic but it won't hurt especially as your CPU has no hyperthreading.

    • Use MSI Afterburner (or something similar) to monitor CPU core usage independently (ie make sure that NONE of your 4 cores hit 100% at any point).

    • Run 'sfc /scannow' from elevated (admin privileges) command prompt. Instructions here.

    • Check BIOS settings are correct. Especially PCI-E settings. Also, selecting XMP profile in BIOS has fixed big drops in GPU usage for some people although I would say (if you don't already) learn how to set your RAM correctly in BIOS manually.

    • Check GPU power saving settings. 'Maximum Performance' in Nvidia Control Panel etc

    • Run check disk on OS & game hard drive (if different). Instructions here.

    • Run 'mdsched.exe' memory diagnostic. Search for it in Windows/run from 'run' command. It's built into Windows 7>10.

    • HCI Memtest is also good to show if your memory is stable (choose between this & 'mdsched.exe' above. You shouldn't need to run both). It can be run while logged in (no need to restart/boot from CD etc). Put '2048' in 'Enter megabytes of RAM to test' box & then run multiple instances to test more RAM at the same time to cover all your RAM quicker. However you do it, it'll test all your RAM eventually.

    • Use CPU-Z to make sure your RAM is running as it should (ie NOT in dual-channel or something etc)

    • Maybe reinstall system/motherboard drivers from manufacturers site also, if none of the above has done anything.

    • Reinstall game to new location & see if problem still exist? Will answer whether game or system specific problem.

Drops in GPU usage to zero (or close etc) usually mean your system is unable to deliver data to the GPU at those times. Looks like you have it covered but check none of your CPU's, hard drive or memory are hitting 100% & thus are unable to transfer data to GPU fast enough. Make sure all memory is recognised in windows/correct CPU frequency etc.

If none of the above works:

Take a shotgun... no  Give us some more info. When did it start happening? Is this a new install or has it been working perfectly up till now? New CPU or had it for ages? Upgraded to Windows 10 recently. Any new hardware installed? (including monitor GSync etc) Anything that may apply. The more info the better.

  • @Anonymoused281 ohh of course, sorry. As far as I know, all my drivers are updated.

I didn't think it would be necessary, but you are right, I will try to uninstall the scripts and mods and see how it goes... I think it would be fine, but I will test it.

@a63nt-5m1th I will test it and later i will update this post.

Thanks everyone for your kind attention.

  • Well, I have been testing for hours and it seems that scripts related to Businesses in SP are what causing such fps loss. Since I wanted to play them in SP, I think I have to accept it XD
    Thanks for your helps! =D

  • @MigRic
Nice . Well you know what I mean. Good job on finding the problem

    Those are TheHurk's right?

Please say what's up in the comments section

There's been more complaints on the performance of his coding

  • @a63nt-5m1th Yeah, thanks man =D

Well, I'm using HKH191's ones. I don't know if it's TheHurk or not. As for the problem, the author is aware of this problem and said that nothing can be done.

Ah no had the names mixed up, this was it, well I'm glad you got it sorted
