Crash after variable time, launcher log says "unable to clear in and out file"

I have a crashing problem as well. I don't think its the game config, I only have two addons, Sparrow helo w/out pontoons, and Scamp beta plane. Mygame will just randomly crash after 30 min, 1 hour, or 10 min...It's just random. I look in my launcher logs and it says "unable to clear in and out file" or something like that. Is this on rockstars end? I even tried my game stock w/ no mods and it still happens. My guess it is some launcher failier to "call home" or whatever by what the launcher says. What do you guys think? Should I just play the game in offline mode? If so can I still get achievements on steam being offline? If anyone has advice, let me know, I'd be grateful. I'm tired of these launcher crashes. Thanks modders!

@TrustNo1 Do you get a dialog box if so and if this is your error (0xc0000005) just go here and go to the first forum reply: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-performance/application-error-0xc0000005/6224ae45-a251-4f21-b076-74524618d00a BTW i am just going off a similar post i hopefully helped i looked up his error and that is what he is getting in his Launcher logs and no i do not know which directory they are located.

I am using windows 7 at the moment, so I am not sure if the info in the link you posted will work for me. I am not on my gaming pc right now so I can't get the gtav launcher log. It usually says something about "launcher error occured, unable to clear in-out file." Then I try steam on offline mode and i was able to play without any crashes. I removed all my mods and had steam check all the game files to make sure nothing is corrupted. Steam said the game files were all successfully validated. I also don't have the best internet either, do you think that could possible be a cause? It seems like the launcher is always trying to "phone home" to make sure my game is legit. It drives me crazy because the launcher is causing the problem and ya can't play the game without it, I have tried the "no launcher" mod and it would not work for me unfortunately.

Please don't hijack topics. I've moved your discussion to a new thread.Regarding your problem, we need to see what the log says so we know what the error message is exactly. I don't think your internet connection would be the cause.

@TrustNo1 No i do not believe that your internet would be the cause but if it is not what i recommended maybe a drivers problem. Do not ask me what drivers no offense but i would not know. I do not know what else to tell you sorry bro i hope something i have stated helped hopefully.If not i tried.

Sorry, I didn't intend to hijack the thread, apologies. I will reinstall my drivers and see what happens. I played the game last night for 3-4 hours and the game didn't crash strangely. As soon as it does I will post my launcher log. Also I am using the best gameconfig that works for me the best..

@TrustNo1 , Hi ! From what I see in that log, the problem is in the directX controller. More specifically to this > " [2019-02-02 04: 35: 40.496] [WARNING] Reset failed with D3DERR_DEVICELOST. " You have some device that is causing conflict with the game. It can be the sound card, a USB device .. You will have to review that, disconnecting the devices that are not required to play the gta , since it's a directX conflict issue.

@TrustNo1 I got a guy saying in a steam forum that this helped him he has the same problem as you.
This worked for me:Go to Documents --> Rockstar Games --> GTA V --> Profiles. Click on the only folder there, which will be a gibberish string of characters which represents an ID associated with your profile.
Please delete the files "cfg.dat" and "pc_settings.bin". These represent settings files for your local options. Sometimes, when these files become corrupted, they can cause game crashes. You may have to reset certain in-game settings as a result of deleting these files, but you won't lose any progress.
After that, please check if you're still experiencing this issue.

Do you think I should unplug it when I launch the game and then plug it back in when the game starts? I have heard of problems like that with other games.Also I appreciate any help, because this is driving me nuts, lol. Last night I was literally 10 seconds away from completing the Merryweather Heist and then bam, game freezes.

Okay so I did a test finally, I have been busy or else I would have done it sooner. What I did was remove the cfg.dat and pc_settings.bin files so the game could make new ones. I also tried another controller because the one I was using was acting strange because I already fixed it once. Anyways I used my newer controller and did what ya told to with those two files and the game ran quite well. I just took a taxi around the map 4-5 times while I was working out in the garage. I did that for about two hours and I did not crash at all, thank god! I was about to try to complete the Merryweather heist and of course another update from Rockstar and steam auto updated. So now I have to wait for scripthook, a gameconfig and ENT to update to try again. I appreciate the help everyone because I think it was my controller and those two files.

Its cool, no worries on a late reply. As soon I was going to do more testing, my game had already updated and now I cant do a test until scripthook comes out. So annoying. I as soon as I have the time and desire to play it, we get "blessed" with a dumb update for dumb online mode. What I dont get is how long are they going to keep updating this game?! How much more dumb crap can R* think of. At this rate I am going to have to buy a harddrive just for GTAV! Annoying..

I don't think it makes sense to criticize Rockstar for updating GTA V, 4 years after PC release, because a mod author doesn't update their mod fast enough. Most people outside of the modding community think it's awesome Rockstar is still updating this game. The only reason it's a problem for the modding community is because the modding community isn't improving itself to adapt to the "problem" of updates.
If you want to prevent this from happening in the future, disable automatic updates for GTA V in Steam, then use GTAVLauncherBypass so you can open GTA V without it updating. Make sure to open GTA5.exe instead of opening GTA V through Steam.
