Site re-uploading mods from this site

  • Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place, but I've just come across this site which appears to be skimming through this site and re-uploading every single mod on the front page to a sharemods account (which pays them per upload, meaning they are generating money from our mods).

The site in question is https://gamesmods.net/grand-theft-auto-v/.

I just thought I'd let you all know in case you want to send them a nice juicy DMCA notice if they've re-uploaded your mod.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Unfortunately there's nothing we can do as we do not own the copyright on the mods made.

Authors need to DMCA the site, and their host, as I think it is safe to assume the site owner is the one who is actually doing this and therefore he's unlikely to give a shit about DMCA takedowns or, you know, copyright law.

They are currently pushing their traffic behind CloudFlare, so first port of call is to file a copyright/DMCA takedown request using their form here: https://www.cloudflare.com/abuse/form

If you're a mod author whose mod is on that site and you care about this person reuploading your work and making money from it, you need to be the one to file the complaint as you are the copyright owner of your mod. No one else can legally file the complaint for you.

  • @Dark0ne Hi, thanks for your reply.

While I do understand there isn't much you can really do, my post was more of a PSA to mod authors than anything. I just wanted to spread awareness of this site so authors can file DMCA requests if they wanted to, to stop the re-uploads spreading further.

Probably wishful thinking, but if enough authors send them DMCA notices, they might take note!
