No 3D Grass

  • For some reason my game doesn't render 3D grass, what could be the cause?

  • @Morgesan
Was this fixed with the change from DX10 to DX11? 3D grass is DX11 only I think?

Nope, I even noticed it in DX11 D:

    Hmm? Not sure...

What is your grass quality set to in 'settings.xml'?

    C:\Users\your-username-here\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\settings.xml

        <GrassQuality value="1" /> ('0'= Normal (ie OFF), '1'= High, '2'= Very High, '3'= Ultra)

Try setting it to '1' & see if some appears? Is your GTX 1050 2GB or 3GB?. What's your gpu memory usage at in game settings? If it's maxed out that might be why it don't appear. Try lowering all other graphics settings to their minimums & see if grass starts to show up?
Also, has it ever appeared? ie Used to work now doesn't appear or is this you just trying it for the first time?

  • No, it hasn't ever appeared. However, about a year ago when I was playing on the same computer, it worked just fine. My gpu usage is fine in game, and my GTX105O is a 3GB one

    • Run 'sfc /scannow' (System File Checker) from elevated (admin privileges) command prompt. Instructions here. If any problems with Window's system files are found it will repair them automatically. Reboot after & check grass in-game etc

    • Run Windows DirectX Diagnostic Tool & check the 'Display' tab for errors. Instructions here. Presuming you have Windows 10 but other OS versions are very similar.

    dxdiag Display tab

    • Run check disk on OS & game hard drive (if different). Instructions here.
Note: Just tick 'Automatically fix file system errors' but make sure 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' is unticked (unless you are prepared to potentially reinstall Windows (if scanning C:/OS drive) or your game (if scanning install drive if different to OS drive)).

Have a run through that & get Windows fighting fit & I'll see if I can figure out what in the game/game settings could be stopping grass from appearing

  • @a63nt-5m1th Nevermind, I solved it. For some reason my Grass Quality in settings.xml was set to 0. Thanks for the help again.

  • @Morgesan
    No probs bud.
