Game won't start unless asi loader is installed

  • My games works properly with mods installed, but when i want to uninstall the asi loader to play gta online it says "Corrupt game data. Please reboot, verify the game data, or reinstall the game.". As soon as i reinstall the asi loader it works fine again. I tried doing a file check, it downloaded 3GB and still wouldn't start, then i removed every mod from the game root, still won't start.

  • @MolISIS "removed every mod from the game root" So you aren't using a mods folder? Sounds like you are not and the game sees the wrong stuff when you try going online so it wants to verify files. If you are indeed not using a mods folder, then you need to either start using one or need to have 2 copies of gta5 on your pc. One for vanilla online and one that is modded for single player. Using a mods folder is easier IMO.

Look at recent threads, there is one about 2 copies of gta5 and inside is a link to another post with a63nt-sm1th explaining how to have 2 copies and switch between the two.

  • @chonkie Going online it's not a problem, my game crashes while trying to open, even if I open the single player version of the game.

I looked at the thread you mentioned, but i don't get the "Install a fresh copy" part, do i need to download it from scrach? (I am worried since it takes 30hours of nonstop downloading to download it)

  • @MolISIS First post you say, "My games works properly with mods installed, but when i want to uninstall the asi loader to play gta online it says Corrupt game data." Now you say, "Going online it's not a problem, my game crashes while trying to open, even if I open the single player version of the game." Which is it, because those two statements contradict each other?

And what about the sentence you say, "As soon as i reinstall the asi loader it works fine again."

The thread I mentioned was for if you wanted to use two copies of gta5 on your computer. I didn't say that is what you need to do. I also asked if you were using a mods folder. If you don't use a mods folder or a second copy, then you are modding the vanilla files. Which you really don't want to do. If you rename(or remove) the asi loader (aka. dinput8.ll) and try to go online in this situation, then R* will give you that error and you will need to revert your game back to vanilla by verifying game files through steam if that's where you got it. It sounds like in your case, when you don't verify files and then reinstall the asi loader, then it work since your vanilla files are still modded. But when you do verify files, then your game is back to vanilla. If you again aren't putting things in the correct spot at that point, then you get more issues.

If you have it through steam, just verify files, it shouldn't take 30 hours for that. Then install OpenIV and have it install a mods folder. Then use that for modding.

  • @chonkie
    I have a mods folder.

When i say "going online is not a problem" is because the game doesn't even start so it doesn't give me the error of having modded files in my directory.

I said in the first post that i already tried verifying the game files, it downloaded 3GBs and still didn't work

When i say "As soon as i reinstall the asi loader it works fine again." i mean that after using OpenIV asi manager to reinstall the loader it make the game work fine, but when i uninstall it it makes tmy game crash

I have the rockstar version of the game not the steam one

  • @MolISIS Ah, ok. Well then I'm stumped. I've only seen that message twice myself and each time I just verified files and that fixed it. Don't know why you would be able to play modded but not vanilla. Maybe list your mods, post a screenshot of your game root folder, your mods folder, scripts folder. I'm not asking because I'll know what to look for, but maybe someone else will. More info is better than no info.

    This is my game directory.

It gives me the "ERR_GEN_INVALID" error

  • PROBLEM SOLVED

    Delete those 2 files:

    gtav.exe in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V

    update.rpf in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V\update

Then start the game, it will automatically download the missing files.

Once the download it's done the game should work fine again.
