Need help with textures and vertex colors, possibly.

  • I need help to figure out where I went wrong. I thought I set up the textures correctly, but obviously have not, at least for two areas. The thing I don't understand is that I set up the floor all the exact same way and at the same time. I did not do the center portion that is showing up black at a later time. Now it was originally set up as room #2 and it was enclosed, but I've since changed that layout. I did attach it's floor drawable and collision portions back to the main basement floor drawable and collision files. I made sure I had all of the floor polys selected when I changed the collision for the entire basement floor to be room #1. I made sure all the floor polys were selected when I dragged and dropped the texture file to the shell and set up the uvmap. The same goes for the center ceiling part that is also showing up black. They do indeed show up really dark when I tested in game, but the texture is actually there and can be seen if light shines on it. The ceiling texture is there too but just really hard to see. I also set up the walls and ceiling texture and uvmap up at the exact same time with every poly being selected so I thought it should all just be the same.

I have not set up lighting yet. I thought it would be a vertex color issue so tried making sure the center portion verts were showing up as being set up the same as the rest and I can't see any differences in 3ds. I even redid the texture stuff in case there was just some random issue. The center portions do not show up dark in OpenIV viewer, but that may not mean much. Is there a setting in 3ds I'm missing with setting up the vertex colors? Is this not actually that issue? Do i just need to possibly reapply the texture and make sure there is something checked in a box somewhere?

  • Got it figured out. Basically I accidentally cloned those sections at one point and didn't rename them. Had moved the shell a bit to get it even with the outside pavement and that made the extra sections get lost under or between other layers. I guess i must have attached them by accident after I textured the shell, and in placing the shell info in the ytyp, somehow those sections moved down a bit too.
Good reason to not work on stuff at 2am. Either way, they are gone and I'm happy.

    that's quite the storage room

  • @ReNNie Lol, well monster trucks are big. I'm planning on adding work areas to those square areas that extend out, plus going to add stuff to make it more realistic like air conditioning duct work, lights, and other things to fill the void. I thought about adding pillars to help visually break up the giant space. Trying to get the upper level arena more complete first though. I also didn't originally plan on the basement being one giant room, but was easier that way.
