How to downgrade to the old launcher?
-
I have a whole second clean version of gtav (the one I use to play online) that is not updated so I have the files but It won't let me play with the old launcher? how can I play it now?
-
@LuxuryDawg - If you didn't install the Cockstar Games Launcher, try these steps:
- Run the game normally. Internet OFF.
- Once the "The game failed to connect..." message appears, turn Internet ON and hit "Retry".
- Wait for the update progress bar to appear...
- ...and when it does, hit "cancel" button!
- Turn Internet off, and re-run the game normally.
- Upon another "The game failed to connect..." prompt, hit "Play offline".
- The game should now load into story mode.
This method works on the premise that it is enough to just make a login "handshake" with Cockstar's servers to "authenticate" / "validate" your copy. You really don't have to download an entire update.
Note that it will probably only work as long as you don't have the RGL installed on your system. In any case, please do let us know if it works for you. Good luck.

@TheMurderousCricket Well...I had installed Cockstar launcher.. So I'm thinking I'm Screwed
-
@LuxuryDawg - Try to uninstall and then see if it works. If you have backup then, by all logic, the game should use the regular Social Club Launcher present in your backup.
Just make sure to report back! I'm really eager to know if it works in your situation.

@TheMurderousCricket I will Give me, a little bit!

@TheMurderousCricket It says unable to locate Rockstar Games Launcher . Try Reinstalling the game. Btw My setup is One GTAV folder for online and one for Modding. So I used rage to make a backup from the clean unupdateded folder then downgraded my modded with that back up. (But wait, oh shit) I can try just copying my modded files and stick them in my unupgraded online version and try to keep that from updating....
-
@LuxuryDawg - I remember that someone said they even could run the game on another computer just by just copying the entire backup game folder and launching it normally! So... why not?
The method I described above is probably most effective if you didn't update, because Gods only know what happens if you do... But rest assured, I used this method last friday. And it still was succesful.

@TheMurderousCricket We'll the copy thing is what i did to get two seprate folders. But I got the old launcher to start up and even to where it lets me choose offline mode but when the Internet plugged in It tell me to download the new launcher or exit (I used the commandline -scoffline thing that I know works) then with internet unplugged it tell me social club failed to launch error code 9 bullshit.
-
@TheMurderousCricket alright dawg here's what I did. I put my modded files in that unupdated folder and so Like I said before about using the old launcher was happening. BUT I downloaded a Launcher for mods that doesn't use cockstars at all (https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/gta-v-modding-launcher#description_tab). But when I started using it told me that i needed an Internet connection to play even with this launcher. So I changed some of this modded launcher's settings and Now Boom It works perfectly, I never have to worry about this again since it can't update using this launcher and I will never need the internet.
-
@LuxuryDawg - Wow. That's great!
So what settings did you use?
-
@TheMurderousCricket I changed the moddded launcher setting to do it. which was disable RPH when available and check updates automatically. I absolutely LOVE this launcher, I highly recommend to anybody. Thank you much for chatting with me through this!

I'll keep this tool in mind then. Though I seriously hope I won't have to use it.
