Rockstar's new launcher breaks game....
-
Has the new launcher broken anyone else's game? I had been running with the old Social Club launcher for a while and then today I got nailed with the new one. It worked for about 5 minutes and then after my character died, the mod 'remember last location broke' and 'menyoo' broke. I tried restarting the game and then GTAV broke (again) even though I had installed the new launcher and the game won't get past all the ads for online play before crashing. I used my PC installation discs to do a 'repair' and then the stupid launcher said 'there were no installed copies of the game' even though it's in the drive where it recognized it earlier. Now I have to reinstall from scratch. Not sure if even that will work! Jeeze! Everytime Rockstar 'improves' something it causes way more problems....
-
Sorry to hear that but yes - a lot of people have had their games broken this way. Using the old Social Club Launcher (one just needs to avoid the pre - launcher splash screen) is by far the best method to run the game on one's own terms.
-
Does this mean it's not possible to run GTA V with mods today? I just bought the PC version mainly to play aroudn with mods. And I simply can't get it to work. I have tried Meth0d addonpeds and other more simple ways. I have the game starting and get the different mods menus. But I cant get any peds, i.e. ArmoredBatman. If I try to load it through peds selector ("L"), it says that the ped is not found in peds.rpf.
-
So...after a 5 hour download (even with a fast connection) I had to reload GTA V from scratch. Mods fortunately do work, but if you have a lot of them (I have a few), you'll have to reinstall them 1 at a time to see which ones are broken. So far the only one I've found is the latest 'No Boundary Limits' which sucks because of a Build-A-Mission Mod I'm making depends on it. My major gripe is for all Rockstars' BS, the 'fix' they swore they put in for offline single-player DOES...NOT...WORK. Btw, that's not me yelling despite what the 'net says about all caps.
I've gone through all the hoops to 'update' the new launcher and it still gives the 'nope you can't play offline' error. It's been more than a month and no one seems to have this problem or the 'two' articles bothering to mention it are from september. It should be working by now if it ever did. And forget trying to contact 'R'. Unless you're trying to buy a freakin' 'shark card' you gets no love!

Could you please let me know which guide you are using to have mods working? I can't get any to work.
-
@iammistahwolf Which No Boundary Limits are you trying to use, the one from Unknown Modder or the one by SonofUgly? I'm currently using the one from Unknown Modder and it is working just fine.
-
@GTAHOLIC I'm using Unknown Modder's. I also am using Enhanced Native Trainer's latest bugfix which has been loading weird lately, but still works.
@chonkie Dude, I certainly appreciate the detailed rip! Two questions of which the answers will render all that 'useful' or 'moot'. Question 1. Can I use OIV to just open the packages on my C: and then place them in my non-OS game drive mods folder and they work? 2. Did you see the part where I mentioned if I have to have everything on the C: drive to make OIV and Winrar work 'I can't use this method?' Not trying to be a smart ass especially after all you put out there. Just want to cut out the time I waste trying to make this work the way I need and it not. Thanks for the info one way or another it's way more than anyone else on the entire net has offered me!
BTW, whoever made the rule you have to wait 10 minutes to give more than one post in this forum, I do recognize the need to curb 'spammers', but c'mon this is dumb....
-
@GTAHOLIC, Sorry, that 10min delay for posting made me put the wrong answer in. Not sure what you mean by 'guide'. However, what usually works is start with a 'mod-free' GTAV game folder with all the basic stuff in it. Then, get the latest ScripthookV and ScripthookV.net versions and put them in the GTA root folder one at a time. Start the game after each mod goes in and make sure there are no hangs, crashes or other weirdness. Do that with all your mods that go into the root folder first, then the ones that go into your scripts folder after those. At any time the game hangs or crashes, it's most likely the mod you put in last either needs updating for the latest GTA version or it's conflicting with another mod. After you get the game shut down, check the logs for scripthook (both versions), the ASI Loader log and any other mod logs (like Menyoo) available. read through to the last entry to see if the problem came from the mod. Scripthook will usually say there was 'an exception' and give an error code and id #. If the logs just cut off, either the mod conflicts with the game or GTA has its own issues. If you use OIV to do Addons and what-not, wait until you get all your 'basic mods' that don't require replacing files working first. So far, only 'No Boundary Limits' by Unknown Modder is acting up on my setup. First off, is GTAV working at all on your system?
@chonkie, Sorry about the mix-up with my last answer, that was supposed to go in our other discussion about OIV. Anyway, I am Using Unknown Modder's 'No Boundary Limits'. I'm thinking that was part of the cause of my game breaking down along with that stupid new launcher. So it's still working on your system? Once I get through checking all my other mods, I'll try it again. I notice Open Interiors acts weird on boot up, but it does work maybe it's a conflict with No Boundary. More than likely one or both need updating.
-
@iammistahwolf Sorry, I did not notice where you said you can't use OIV because I honestly did not read everything thoroughly enough, and I thought you were just asking on how to access the files for manual installation.
If I understand your first question here correctly, then yes OIV and Gta5 do not need to be on the C: drive, the game can be elsewhere along with your mods. I have my OS and just OIV on my C: and everything else on a different drive. There is a way, theoretically, to move OIV by creating a symbolic link, I only say theoretically because I haven't tried it myself for OIV since OIV doesn't take up much space, like 113mb iirc.
And yes, UM's NBL still works fine with the other mods on my system, with the new launcher. I don't have Open Interiors though, I did at one point when I first started modding, but found it to be buggy for me so quit trying to use it.
edit ... I deleted the link because it really didn't explain the whole process.
-
@iammistahwolf I can confirm that moving the folder for OpenIV to a different drive and creating a link does work. That link I posted in the previous reply isn't that great at telling the process. So here are the exact steps I did to get it to work.
-
Find the folder called New Technology Studio on your C: drive. It should be in your C:\User\user name folder\AppData\Local.
-
Right click on it and click Copy.
-
I created a new AppData and Local folders on my G: drive, and then pasted the copied NTS folder there. I don't know exactly how PC's like to have stuff set up, so I ended up recreating the same folder structure, which may not be necessary. So for example, I now have that New Technology Studio folder located at G:\chonkie\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio
-
Delete the New Technology Studio folder from the C:\ drive
-
Run cmd.exe as administrator.
-
Enter the line below at the c:\Windows\system32> to create the link to the directory. Of course change chonkie to your user name folder and also change the drive from G:\ to whatever you're using.
** Take note to actually use quotation marks where I put them in the line below because the folder name has spaces in it. **
mklink J/ "C:\Users\chonkie\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio" "G:\chonkie\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio"
press enter after entering the above line and it should confirm that a link was made. That is all that you need to do.
-
-
@chonkie Thanks! I took a look at the link and it looks like something worth trying. I'll use your steps to see if it suits my setup. However...that new $#@%@%^!! launcher has completely broken my game. Now it won't start the game at all with or without mods! Ugh! The way things are set up now you can't even use the discs (you paid for) to run a repair on the game let alone play offline inspite of their so-called fixes. 3 years I've been working with this game and because of their stupid 'improvement', I'm dead in the water. I had actually gotten most of my mods to work until this. Supposedly, their servers are down in spots. If I could get in offline, I could at least fix stuff. I'm 'bout ready to walk in to 'R's' offices with an iron bar and start whackin' shins for these folks being a PIA for no good reason. Hope your set up's working at least....
-
@chonkie So I'm following your 2nd setup for transferring OIV and have a question. In part 3. What do you do with the 'New Folder' the copy is placed in? Did you rename it with your username then add an AppData folder, etc., etc.?
Oh, and I saw your answer on the interiors post. I'll put an answer on there when the time limit is up. Thanks as always.
-
@iammistahwolf There was already my user name folder in my G drive. The new folders I created were the AppData and Local in my user folder on the G drive, then I pasted the copied New Tech Studio folder into the Local folder. I just did that to make it look like it was when it was in the C: drive. I don't know if it is necessary to do that though, probably not.

ut the mix-up with my last answer, that was supposed to go in our other discussion ab
Hi, and thanks for your reply.
Yes, GTA V is working fine without mods. And sometimes it works even with mods (Open IV, addonpeds, etc). But no peds will load, it says they cant be found in peds.rpf. But they are there, put with Open IV.I will try your suggestions any day soon. Thanks again!
-
@chonkie Yeah, this isn't working. I followed your instructions to the letter including making an exact duplicate of your file structure on the new drive; C:|Window\system32>mlink J/ "C:\Users\IamMistahwolf\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio" "/D:\IamMistahwolf\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio". Each time I get an 'Invalid Switch' message. I tried shortening the file director in the the
line, even using 'mklink D/'. I got more 'invalid switch' or 'blah, blah, blah, not a command file blah, blah....

@iammistahwolf Are you starting that second part of the line as "/D:\ like it shows above in your post? If so, that extra / before the D is your problem.
-
@chonkie Nope. That's a typo in the post. "D:\IamMistahwolf\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio". I get an 'Invalid Switch' message. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Did the cmd.exe as an 'admin' and deleted the folder from the C: Drive prior to attempting the switch as per instructions. If you can spot what I'm missing that would be great. I know this can work. Thanks as always.
-
@iammistahwolf I can't spot what you're doing wrong because you just posting what you're doing isn't actually showing me what you are doing. I couldn't fathom what you could be doing wrong since it is easy to do. You could be messing up something simple while typing the line at the prompt. If possible, a short video of what you're doing might help.
-
@chonkie Thanks for getting back. Not sure going through all the steps to make a vid worth the effort. These are the exact steps I took:
- Go to C: and copy 'New Technology Studio' folder.
- Make New Folder in
and set it up as 'IamMistahWolf'\AppData\Local.
- Put copy of New Technology folder into the 'Local' folder on
drive.
- Go back to C: and delete New Technology folder.
- Open cmd.exe as 'admin'
- Command window opens: C:\Windows\System32>
- I type in: mklink J/ "C:\Users\IamMistahwolf\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio" "D:\IamMasterOkami\AppData\Local\New Technology Studio"
- Hit Enter
- "Invalid Switch"
I agree this should be quite easy, but for some reason it's not happening. I'm with you on 'not fathoming what I'm doing wrong here.' I'm going to try an shorten up the directory on the
, but I suspect OIV wants that full directory setup. I'm willing to try most anything to see if this will work.
Anyway, on a far more positive note, 'R' updated the launcher again and now the game is running extremely stable (for the moment.) Still can't play offline even though it says 'offline mode'.
-
Hey, just wanted to throw out an update. FINALLY got gta working again after the 'update' of the updated new launcher. Also finally got OIV to work with my setup. Took a bit to figure out how to load up mods, but that's done as well. So, if anyone is having trouble with mods loading after the launcher update, I found updating ScripthookDotNet cleared up a lot of problems. Still got some buggy issues, but No Boundary Limits (GTAV Space version) works fine now. Still having issues with 'Remember Last Location Mod' and I figure it just needs an update to match the new launcher version. Last but not least, still having problems with a couple builds in Menyoo crashing my game. I figure the XML file is damaged somehow because one will start loading and then shortly after I move the character or try to interact with anything the game crashes. Doesn't do it with my other builds so I figure these two got corrupted somehow.
Thanks to Chonkie and everyone else who gave useful info. I'm sure I'll be hittin' y'all up again soon!
