A lot of work payed off. WOW (huge mod compilation)

  • @Akila_Reigns https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/texture-toolkit

It lets you extract, edit and replace embedded textures... really useful piece of kit.

  • @LeeC2202 Thanks! I'll check it out right away.

  • @Akila_Reigns Those vehicle reflections are really nice. What ENB is that?

  • @LeeC2202 Hey random question... you know how .dat files viewed in notepad can be all mumble jumbled up with extra spaces everywhere so nothing is actually in order?

Is there a program that will let me view .dat files in order like a grid, how they are supposed to look?

Is that what C++ does? Ive never used anything but regular notepad to change values & its been a royal pain in the ass. Heh.

  • @Weirdoutworld Can you give me the name of an example file so I can see what you mean?

  • @Weirdoutworld What else should I download? Can you recommend some good mods?

  • @Akila_Reigns Euphoria ragdoll overhaul, Real vehicle damage, Toggle bullet time, extreem explosion texture just to name a few off the top of my head.

  • @LeeC2202 like wheelfx.dat is there a way to see the values organized? Because when I look at a couple modded files like the mudding mod wheelfx.dat there is just values & names all over the place, its a mess! Maybe thats how its supposed to look. Idk

  • @Akila_Reigns The procedural.meta from visualV is super usefull for shadows on everything from bottles to smoke.

  • @Weirdoutworld said in A lot of work payed off. WOW (huge mod compilation):

    wheelfx.dat

Copy the text, paste it into Notepad++ and turn off Word Wrap. I have dual monitors and each line is longer than Notepad++ stretched across both screens. :D 492 columns to be precise.

But with word wrap off, everything lines up as it should.

This is shrunk down... you can see some lines are still wrapping though, crazy files... probably generated by software. Actually, they're not still wrapping, those blank lines are splits in the data... I had to check, just to be sure.

  • @LeeC2202 ok cool! Im trying to combine the "go stuck yourself mud mod & the "rally dust effect & handling" but wheelfx.dat is giving me hell. I will let you guys know when I get it. Thanks.

  • What about loading the MP map through Simple Trainer or Open all Interriors?! Im constantly getting thrown an error whenever I try to activate it. Any solution for that?

  • @Weirdoutworld If it was me... there'd be an app for that... :)

I hate editing text files and I'd rather spend a day or two writing something that lets me edit in comfort, then generates it all back out again. Which is how I presume R* do it.

I can never work out how much demand there is for that kind of thing though, so I never bother creating them... which is why my popcycle editor never went anywhere other than my own machine (barring one exception)... and the popgroup editor never even got that far.

  • @LeeC2202 Oh man! I'm sure tools like that would get a lot of attention. BUT, it would really make all the mods that people make using those files obsolete. like... "your mods nice, but now everybody & there mother can make them with ease." lol You could just release them "AS IS" meaning no support. That wouldn't really reflect great on you. Your doing the right thing.

  • Check out these rock textures!0_1476821526465_GTA5 2016-10-17 13-14-29.png

  • @Weirdoutworld where did you get that?

I don't want to drag this thread sideways again, but I don't agree with that. I don't believe that modding is about giving one exclusive group the ability to create mods, I believe it's about giving everyone the power to create a game that matches their own idea of how it should look/feel/work.

I could never approach tool creation with the idea that it might make someone else's creation less special, if it gives the player the power to create something special for themself, by themself. I mean, if I thought like that, I wouldn't have told you about how to edit the files in Notepad++, because that's like giving you the tools required to edit the files easier. ;)

In essence... isn't that what this thread is all about? Is it not about having the tools and ability, to take other people's creations and tailor them to your own desires? With things like Texture Toolkit, OpenIV and Notepad?

Anyway... I'll get back down off my soap-box.. I really must throw that away. :D

  • @Weirdoutworld Thanks for the reply. Quick question, what's the most realistic graphics mod in your opinion?

  • @Akila_Reigns Going for realism ive learned is a loosing battle. I found myself always unsatisfied no matter what I had lol.

Redux's ReShade 2.0 Ultra V3 preset If i HAD to choose.

  • @Weirdoutworld
I decided to change my ENB and Reshade a little bit, customized some presets, and now the game looks like this. What do you think?

    Can you see the picture?

  • This post is deleted!

  • @Akila_Reigns looks pritty good. Cear & sharp. I personally like a lot of contrast & vibrancy. Maybe because I just got my first PC 6 months ago & im just used to seeing bland colors from consoles for 20 years. lol

Have you tried Redux's reshade presets?! If not, you should download the mod just for the presets, theres like 13. Lotta good stuff in there my friend.

    Do you use ReShade 2.0?

  • @Weirdoutworld I tried Redux, I deleted it because of the... ahem, the contrast & vibrancy. I'm trying out various ENB combinations, maybe I should try Redux again.
