How to prevent worse model quality when attaching objects in 3DS Max
-
So I'm trying to convert a clothing model to the freemode character, and when I attach the freemode item to the one I want to convert, it loses its model quality.

Not at system right now to give an exact, but you need to apply your smoothing back to the groups after you attach. Look up Max smoothing groups on Google Im sure something there will show you what I mean.
-
go to the modifier list on the top right corner and apply the meshsmooth modifier to the object you want to smooth.
-
Either I'm doing it wrong or it doesn't work, but I can't get the model to look smooth.

@flying_bulletzzz After adding the modifier and adjusting any parameters, did you right click on the modifier and then click collapse to?
-
@chonkie Which one ? Collapsing Skin and Game Mesh doesn't do anything, and Editable Mesh cant be collapsed. Or did you mean the MeshSmooth modifier ?
-
@flying_bulletzzz The mesh smooth modifier, you right click on it after you've adjusted any parameter and click on Collapse To, then click yes on the prompt. Also, if meshSmooth modifier doesn't do anything, try TurboSmooth modifier

@chonkie Both modifiers make holes in my model when I add them.
