Trouble getting any mods to work

I'm trying to get mods to work for GTA V, but no matter how many hours I spend following tutorials and doing exactly what it asks me to, almost every mod I download whether the only mod I have or not causes and instant crash. I've literally spent days trying to figure out what is going wrong and nothing on the internet is even slightly helpful. Why is adding simple things to a game this hard, how do I get it to work like it seems to do so easily for everyone else?
