Rockstar Launcher gone malicious?!

I'm still using game version is VER_1_0_1737_6. I start it up again, today, and immediate crash! So, I did a restore: also immediate crash.
So, I decided to jump thru their passive-aggressive hoops, and upgrade the game, with latest Scripthook V (and .dotnet), new Menyoo, new TrainerV, etc). Still crash, albeit a few startup screens later.
So, is the Rockstar game launcher playing filthy tricks here?! (As in blocking mods?). Almost must be, as even fully upgraded game crashes.

@meimeiriver the launcher updated last week and messed up a lot of peoples games in weird ways. i was on 1737 and had to reinstall backup of 1737 to then update it to 1868.1 to get it to work, whereas others have it working fine on 1737. its a weird one

Thx. It's too absurd for words, even. The game launcher should do nothing else, but launch the game!
And I thought it was the gameconfig maybe (made little sense, as I was running off backup, but still). And Dilapidated seems to have stopped updating his one.

@meimeiriver tbh idk what the hell it is. my game wouldnt run with or without mods, until i copied over a backup and updated it. it wouldnt even work when i updated my original 1737 install

Even though it's total BS, my game is working again with a new gameconfig! I don't know who this meRlin dude is, but his gameconfig is the first one that's working for me!
This proves, at least, I still have an essentually working game. Why it would almost immediately crash with my old backup (and Dilapidated's gameconfig) is the BS part, as that should naturally have worked. So, I still suspect the launcher is, at whatever level, messing with the game.
