Why not? (deleting unmodded rpfs)

  • Banned

So I've been using MetalHead Tracy and Punk Jimmy (and also a Non-Jugallo Wade I sorta made) which only modifies cutspeds.rpf in x64g.rpf and streamedpeds_ig in x64e.rpf (and even then just the folders pertaining to these specific peds). Why does the game say those are corrupted when the unmodded files are removed? Why can't it just be the modded files only, in the interest of saving disk space?

  • Because the game is stored in those rpfs.
for mods, i suggest you use a mod folder from OpenIV so you don't break your game and have to get fresh clean RPFs

@Plavser Of course I'm using a mods folder. I've been modding for at least 6 months now. Been doing such from the start. 🙄

You mean why can't you delete the vanilla '**.rpf'**s when you have a modded one in the 'mods' folder yeah?
Probably a combination of the game verifying/hash checking itself & the possibility that the ability to use only the 'mods' files would lead to an increase in piracy. That would be my guess

@a63nt-5m1th No. I mean why can't I delete the unmodded files from the rpfs in the mods folder?

  • @QBit07
That would change the hash of the '.rpf' making it look corrupt to any game verification/DRM check etc

If you find a (legal) way to stop the game/steam verifying it's integrity & downloading new files, you can delete the entire vanilla '.rpf's from the game folder & just load the 'mods' folder ones instead to save space.
I have no real idea how you would do that exactly, but with the way OpenIV handles the 'mods' folder it should be possible
Had a discussion on here somewhere about it, relating to using '.reg' files to hop between online & modded versions of the game installed in different locations etc.

  • @QBit07 this is just my tip, I'm not sure if it is like that but I think once you have any rpf in mods folder, game is not able to take just few moded files ffrom mods folder and other from vanilla folder. So once you have rpf file in mods you need to have there all files or game just think there are missing files so it's corrupted. That's probably why people like to make addon folders like replace folder for weapons, replace folder for peds, replace folder for players etc coz that's only way how to replace files without copying whole rpf :shrug_tone3: just my thought about how that work:grimacing:
