Can anyone point me to some resources on how to make modded characters based on existing models?

Totally new to the scene (picked up the free GTA V) I'd like to know how to make character changes based on models I've seen in either XNALara/XPS or MMD. I have never modded anything before but I'd like to learn.

Are there any resources or tutorials I can look at to get started? Or you can just tell me what you know here, all the same.
