(Script): Can someone show me how to modify a mod for personal use (not uploading)?

There's a fantastic mod here in the script section called "Cheriki". It offers a dozen zones throughout the game in which the player can basically have a battle royale / Battlefield / Call of Duty type of war with all kinds of customizable options.
The problem is that the mod might possibly be abandoned, it hasn't been touched or responded to in a couple of months. There are lots of places in the game that I would like to add zones to, and I tried adjusting the mod's settings file accordingly, but the changes don't take. The mod comes as an asi, which I guess may be why. I don't know.
Regardless, what I was wondering is if anyone can look at the mod and tell me how - or if it's even possible - to add some more zones or "maps" to the mod, strictly for myself, with no intentions whatsoever to share or otherwise make the modifications available online. This would be just for my own personal use. Can anyone help?

Since the author says he plans to put the source code on GitHub, try PMing him and ask for the source code. That way you can easily edit it to your liking. Otherwise you'll have to use something like Ghidra or IDA to edit it.

@Jitnaught I have absolutely no familiarity with any of those things but they're a good place to start. How do we private message here? I don't want to bug the poor guy, merely ask if he can tell me how to make my own private modifications for the mod. He seems to have disappeared.

@Jitnaught Ah, it's on his profile page. I don't know how I could have missed it, but I must have. Thanks for being patient enough to answer such a stupid question, lol.
