script hook v critical error can't be fixed

  • I tried many Youtube video ways to fix script hook v critical error, none of them works. are they just posting videos as youtuber? can anyone help??? plz

  • @pitpit412 It's not an error. The recent game update made SHV incompatible. You need to wait for an update of SHV.

  • Do you know how many time this take in general ?

  • @Akao As long as it does.

  • @IreBurn Thanks for the info. thx

  • @Akao Normally takes a couple days to about a week. Please wait while the new version is being developed.

  • @Algonquin1234 Alright thanks!

  • I really wish they would warn you before an update and let you hold off on it. At least with steam, you can't, so it's just a surprise when you launch the game and it starts updating.

  • Not quite wrapping my mind around the entitlement of "wish they would warn you before an update and let you hold off on it". I mean this is why we make backups and downgrade.

Why would they "warn" anyone that an update is on the way? It's not like the game is an enterprise-grade piece of software where an update could take down half of the company if it's not done right.
R* owns the game pure and simple. All we're doing is enjoying it in a way they did not fully intend but have not yet put a permanent stop to (remember the T2 C&D the OpenIV team got a few years back?). Just relax, enjoy the game, and make backups to roll it back with.

  • @Anonymoused281 I knew it was coming from the steam community forums for this game.

  • @PermissionToLand same. I backed up my files before updating but it's so frustrating how the launcher forces you to update just to play the game, so backing up won't do anything. Worse yet, the ScripthookV author never provides a release date or gives us any information on SHV. I hate having to wait indefinitely with no idea how long I'll have to wait. We have perfect reason to be impatient when the people keeping us waiting refuse to update us or say anything.

  • @Anonymoused281 backing up and downgrading won't solve anything because Rockstar now forces us to update just to play the game. I backed up everything and unchecked auto-update but the RSG launcher still forces me to update every time no matter what. The long wait for ScripthookV would be perfectly tolerable if the author had the courtesy to give us updates or an estimated release date. Instead of angrily telling other players to "be patient" maybe we should start demanding answers out of the SHV author and tell him to stop keeping us completely in the dark. We have a good reason to be impatient when it's unknown how long we have to wait. And the only "entitled" people here are the Rockstar employees who clearly only care about their profits.

  • @mjames867
You are so right. or we can just buy a copy from other countries that would solve everything. i heard they can play truly offline with their decoded version. don't know if that true those, i don't have a way to test it out.

  • @Anonymoused281 LOL, "entitlement". I love the irony of people who call others egotistical terms doing so to make themselves feel superior. I do make backups. You wouldn't have to downgrade if they just let you hold it off. Is this how inured we've become to modern technology forcing updates and always-online and other nonsense onto consumers? Ford can't force you to update your car's wheels every few months. They can't prevent you from modifying the car that is your possession. Rockstar does not "own" the game, you do. Jesus Christ, you're completely rolling over for them and it's sad. And if you don't think this stuff has serious implications, look at what John Deere is trying to do with right-to-repair on tractors. It's putting small family farms out of business entirely.

@PermissionToLand Hell yes I love when people go on these kinds of rants. If it's a 1 or a 0 stored on MY hard drive then I own it. From my music to movies to games. For everyone having trouble with this game complaining about Rockstar, these are just 1's and 0's stored locally on your hard drive. There's nothing out there preventing you from playing your game as you intend it. There are ways out there, about 50 videos on youtube if you look.

  • @mjames867 Actually there's a workaround for the launcher insisting we need to update.

So, downgrading is not pointless. These people are resourceful and good at figuring out these things.

  • @InfiniteQuestion you right

First, John Deere and the right to repair is so far from the same ballpark as a video game that this analogy is absurd at best. I stand behind the right to repair. The basis of your argument about ownership is akin to saying that you bought a DVD of a movie, therefore you have the "right" to make illegal copies and sell them because you "own" the movie. No. you own a copy of the movie. The studio owns the movie and retains all rights therein. The same applies for games. The development studios own the game and all trademarks, etc. while we as consumers get a license for a single copy and must abide by the EULA that No One bothers to read or follow once they install and use the proprietary software that it comes with (including Windows).

If you want 100% freedom to do whatever you want, go support F.O.S.S. programs, OSes, etc. where you as the user have the control.

Also, I'm not a shill for R*, but nice try. I was one of the many that signed the various petitions and sent hate mail to Take Two Interactive (R*'s parent company) to get them to change their mind on the Cease & Desist legal order they put out on OpenIV (which includes SHV).

  • @IreBurn I also saw it there and from their newswire. Prices are still stupidly high, but some of the new items look pretty nice.

Alexander Blade has Zero obligation to us or anyone else. If they choose to keep updating SHV or decide "fuck it!" and walk away because of shit like this, then they are fully within their rights to go either way.

@Anonymoused281 You are right. He has zero obligation to the community, in the same way as we have zero obligation to continue feeding animals after they have grown accustomed to human food.

One day, just as human food becomes rare for animals who have built communities around a food source then has it taken away, this community will die a sad but avoidable death. There are articles going back years of the same problem happening over and over.

This will leave us all with two choices. We can beg and plead and make public service announcements to Blade about the importance of releasing the code or at least choosing a second in command. Or we can face the fact that ONE DAY we will all have no choice but to pirate this game to the most stable version for modding.

Also I like watching my movies in a particular way. I go back and frame by frame edit a little hat on top of actors heads. The movies are ten times better now! Just like my games I can mod If i can, I have the right to mod anything on my hard drives, and that includes putting tiny hats on everyone. I don't own it, but I have the right as long as a profit isn't made.

  • MODERATOR

@PermissionToLand "Rockstar does not "own" the game, you do." Wrong, Rockstar (at least legally talking) owns the game as is the company that have the right to release it free, sell and/or do whatever they want with it. You just bought a license from them that allows you to play and enjoy it as it is, nothing else.

  • ScripthookV has been updated. You can now mod the current version of GTA V

  • @Anonymoused281 Pirating a DVD is so far from the same ballpark as modifying a video game that this analogy is absurd at best. The appropriate analogy would be PIRATING a video game or maybe overwriting parts of the DVD you bought.

"you own a copy of the movie"

Precisely, and I can do what I like with that copy so long as it does not violate their intellectual property for my own profit. Modifying my copy does not do that. Pirating does. That's why your analogy was terrible. Right to repair is about as direct an analogy as you can get, for example if a game mechanic is broken and a modder fixes it, there is literally no difference. I am not profiting by modding my game and I am not violating trademark or copyright law either.

"I'm not a shill for R*, but nice try"

I never said you were? So I guess "nice try" building a strawman?

  • @Reyser Are you forgetting that physical disc copies still exist? I'll admit I have not read the TOS agreement for the Steam version, so you may be right that it's technically a license in that case, but that is precisely what I was talking about in regard to the absurd control businesses are taking over their products these days and people are just rolling over. Like I said, John Deere is trying to revoke the right of tractor owners to repair their own vehicles. The highly prohibitive costs of repairing through the official dealers and the long wait times that also cost money in lost productivity are literally bankrupting small farmers. IDK if you're a car enthusiast, but imagine if you could only lease cars from now on, and were not allowed to personalize your car anymore. The entire industry and hobby of car modding would die. Are we really so inculcated with the pursuit of completely unaccountable corporate power that we're willing to entirely give up the hobbies that make life pleasurable as well as the very concept of private property ownership?
