Dear Rockstar...

  • Can you PLEASE stop updating this game, and breaking it? One day Alexander Blade won't be around to keep coming to the rescue. Here's a thought, How about you focus on GTA 6 instead of squeezing this game till there is no juice left. It came out in 2013 ffs. Let it go. Let us modders enjoy this old game. I don't even go online. Haven't been on since about 2014

  • It's so selfish from them they only care about GTA Online players as if there are no GTA SP players anymore and if you look into it you would find that GTA SP has more players than the Online one as soon as they get bored of a recent update they leave the game unlike GTA SP players who are always loyal to the game no matter what and Rockstar instead of finding a solution to that they have no problem sacrificing GTA SP players to make Onliners happy, but they will always keep crying about newer updates as soon as they get bored of the recent ones and as you mentioned Alexander Blade (Saviour) wont be here all his life to keep the Scripthook V updated every two or three months which is a fact let's be real.

  • UGH! I was just looking to get some insight from 'cRockstar' about props glowing in the dark since the summer update and got hit with a surprise update! I suppose this new 'massive update' has broken the game (again.) Geeze we just got a blasted update and I was finally getting the kinks worked out....

  • What really pisses me off is that I was not able to play offline either through Steam or the Rockstar launcher. Maybe there is a way but it eluded me. So if your internet is down and you want to play offline you can't. Nice. Anyway I keep backups so problem solved. Also, as much as I love Scripthook, it should not stop you from playing. I was unable to try the update unless I deleted Scripthook - it's ok to say that SH is broken, but don't stop the game from loading.

  • @roguegiant At least we have rage plugin hook

  • damn it i have just updated , what now ? is there a way to reset back ? i am working on a mod ....

  • @LyKx Is it working? Never used it...but I restored my files from backup.

  • Well, I can wait until ScriptHookV updates new version soon.

  • This almost ruined my day, I have been working more then a week now with modding my game to get a game that is crash free with a bunch of mods. But I managed to revert back the forced update. I felt like I had to create an account just to post this for those in the same situation.

Here is how I reverted without any backups before for those who want to do the same, not sure if it will work for everyone but it worked for me with the rockstar launcher.

These are the files that needed to revert back:
    GTAV rootfolder/update/update.rpf
    GTAV rootfolder/GTA5.exe

Right click the files and choose properties, there is a tab "previous versions", atleast for me there was an older version from 19 december last year. Right click on that file and send it to documents. Now just replace the exported versions with the one in GTA root folder. Now you should have the old version of the game.

Then came the other issue, not being able to launch from the insanely stupid rockstar launcher. I found a mod online that bypass the launcher so you can launch the GTA5.exe launcher instead (not sure if I'm allowed to link it but its easy to find on google), and boom, my game works again with all the mods.

Hope this can help someone. From now on I will be sure to make backups of these files.

  • @Rob__ Thanks for sharing Rob. Hope that can help others. I disable system restore on my PCs but it is very likely enabled on many of the forum members here.

You and me both, I'm no expert but had been doing some work in Zmodeler past few nights and because i'm no expert it takes me a lot longer than it would some. Finished up about 11pm and had work at 6am, gets home and goes to test and..... update :frowning2:

I had used Bypasslauncher for years until the stupid rockstar launcher came in and couldn't figure the way around it. Many videos seem to refer to steam or epic games which mine is not, its the physically disk version. I wish they would have left the offline section alone and just do the changes to Online (something I have never used)

I do have a back up of the whole folder from 01.01.2021 and another from 2019. But again never found a way to make it work. There is so much out there when you search for it as its been a problem for a while now, any chance of a hint of what i should be looking to search for even if its not a link?

  • @Christian6984 Don't understand what your issue is. If you have the disks and also backup versions, is the issue with the launcher itself? I had no problems with Steam or Rockstar once I restored the older files. I used to play HL and HL2 by linking directly to them, there was a code to use for Steam, allowing you to bypass Steam when playing offline. Shame you can't do that with all their games. It would be nice just to run them from a shortcut like all other apps.

  • @Christian6984 if you replace the files I mentioned and use a working Bypasslauncher you should be set. Dont start the rockstar launcher as it will force you to update.

  • @JohnFromGWN i tried to use it but it needs an update too

  • @Rob__ I know the bypass launcher I have from on here doesn't seem to work with the Rockstar Launcher, it wont launch with GTA5.exe (says use Launcher), when I watched some you tube videos last night one seemed to say getting it working with Steam is easily doable but the actually physically disk version cannot be done. Problem that we didn't know what we know back then, Rockstar have made thing really awkward for sure.

would be good if I could get an old version of the steam version but I guess that's wishful thinking no doubt.

  • @roguegiant literally my same reaction when i tried going into SPR :rage:

  • Not sure what the 'forced update' is about but if you have a backup from version 2189, you just copy over the update.rpf and the patch24ng, mpheist4 folders and overwrite the updated version. But before you do so, make sure your Steam fully updates GTA V to the latest version so that Steam recognizes it has already updated to the latest version. After that, you overwrite those files with version 2189 files, and it should work fine. Social Club doesn't force you to update at all in fact, you can even launch the game online after you used older version files, the game should launch fine and doesn't ask you anything. Obviously, you must only play offline at all times with the older files, if you mostly play offline but occasionally think to yourself 'I might go play online', then duhh, the game will try to force an update on you. Launching the game both online and offline does not force anything, just don't attempt to play online. So if you want to play older versions, you must play offline at all times and play it as a single player game.

This is the usual sh*t we all have to go thru ever-so often. Just wait it out a few days until SHV update. No need for a separate topic.
